Classy Fans

We like hockey. A lot. And this is one of the reasons why:

These were Canadian fans stepping up in the midst of technical difficulties to assist in completing the United States national anthem.

After the terror attacks in Canada, fans at NHL stadiums across the US stood in solidarity with the Canadian people. We're willing to bet there aren't many hockey fans who don't know the words to both the Canadian and US anthems. Fan rivalry is intense, but mostly respectful (except for those bastards from Detroit), and the fans at an NHL game are among the most knowledgeable in their following of the game....even those bastards from Detroit.

As many times as some folks talk down the Canadians they are our true friends to the North. They have always stood with us in tough times. They are light years ahead of the Mexicans to our South. Pretty neat they finished the National Anthem. Thank You Canada!!!

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

Well then HAWKS Fans...

Learn this and let us return the salute...

>>Oh Canada (lyrics to OH CANADA)<<
(First two verses, English only this time)

O Canada! Our home and native land!

True patriot love in all thy sons command.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise,

The True North strong and free!

From far and wide, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land, glorious and free!

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee;
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!

O Canada! Where pines and maples grow, Great prairies spread and Lordly rivers flow!

How dear to us thy broad domain,
From East to Western sea!

The land of hope for all who toil,
The true North strong and free!

God keep our land, glorious and free.

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!

After you learn that, pop open a cold Molsons and play this:

Now if we can get them to stand on the red line until the national anthem is completely over, but classy none the less.

WOW! Now that's Class! (maybe I'll have to stop making fun of the wife's Canadian relatives.)

Detroit, grrrrr. I've hated those bastard Red Wings since the six team days of the NHL (now THAT was some Hockey) -- Especially that over-rated pos: #9.

When Bush was President the hockey fans in the Montreal Forum would loudly boo during the singing of the National Anthem. I'll never forget this.

Yes Canada is awesome . Thanks for all your help in Iraq Canada . Please stop pretending that you like hockey. It's insulting to those of us who were fans twenty years ago when they couldn't give tickets away . Nothing says fans like going from worst in attendance in the NHL for decades to first a year after a cup win .

I really like Canada, but I hate having to use a passport to go back and forth!

I like the old days, when all I needed was my drivers license!

Will somebody tell our uniformed and covered soldiers at the United Center that while the Canadian national anthem is being played, they should also be saluting? What a bunch of yahoos they are standing there.

Check the regs.

Lovely. I'm American and live in a US city but when we have Canada based teams visit I sing along with the Canadian National Anthem as well out of respect. Looks like my decision is justified.

The fans in Montreal were booing video of the Boston Bruins Chara when the cameras panned the benches. Had nothing to do with Bush. But then, only a real fan of hockey would bother to know that.

In Canada their police are national icons.

Their Stetson, red serge tunic, Sam Browne belt, riding breaches and boots are the most recognized police uniform in the world.

They are even featured on their currency, the back of a fifty dollar bill.
