More Speed Cameras

  • Drawing about a dozen protesters to fight a controversial speed camera activated in the neighborhood Monday, Ald. George Cardenas (12th) said city bosses are using the technology to pickpocket citizens.

“They have no understanding of communities or their needs,” Cardenas said just after 10 a.m., standing in the cold at 3200 S. Archer Ave. “This is completely wrong.”

Since its installation in 2014, the speed camera has drawn criticism from local residents and organizations calling the camera a money-grabbing scheme disguised as a safety solution.
Really? Just a money-making scheme? And Cardenas actually voted "yes" on Rahm's budget.

The camera's are a really good money maker for the City. The money is needed and the only ones being hurt are those who are actually driving too fast and in a dangerous manner.

I am ok with speed cameras, but give the citizens a heads up that the camera is there. Have flashing yellow lights warning of the upcoming camera. That is, if the reason for the camera is truly safety and not ambushing people to wring out a few buck. You will see such flashing yellow lights in the burbs warning of schools and parks.

Too secluded of an area. Cameras would last 2 days before being shot out.

How about all you coppers do your job and write a few tickets? Speed cameras just screw up the flow of traffic and cost us all time. Since you are all no longer being proactive, how about slinging a few tickets out to the really bad drivers. Losing their license hurts more than a few hundred bucks. After all, the Mayor says it's about safety not the cash grab.

Are you all being too fetal to do some of your job, please?

Only A Citizen says: Put up as many of those speed cameras as you can ! There's way too many Me-Firsters out there passing on the right-hand side, speeding everywhere like a damn ambulance (but barely yielding to the real ones.) These jag-offs need to pump some more cash into your pension funds NOW.

Alderman Cardenas please have city business and health inspections for all those unlicensed food vending carts in your ward. I'm sure those brick and mortar businesses who actually purchase those combinations of business licenses are pickpocketed by mandated business fees codified by the Chicago El Chapo-like Cartel of Fifty.

How about those unlicensed mechanics working out of their garages in your ward parking cars on the residential streets in a state of disrepair. These constituents need to be pickpocketed by licensing fees leveling the playing field of those pickpocketed compliant, legitimately operated businesses.

How about all those occupied attics in your ward which are dangerous for those residents who occupy these attics against the housing code living in the shadows. City inspection teams could write up lots of Administrative Notice of Violations (A.N.O.V.). Pickpocket those landlords who are collecting illegal rents documenting those who are not playing by the rules. This could be a lucrative source of revenue to build all those publically funded schools alleviating those problematic overcrowded classrooms. Then have a ribbon cutting ceremony naming new schools after dignitaries of foreign nations. Take the moral high ground Mr. Cardenas and open your books from your ward and let the sun shine in. For that matter, take to the floor of the council and be an advocate for change and transparency of the city's financial wheeling and dealings. Open those books Cardenas and force a radical transformation in the way the city collects, appropriates and dispenses public monies. Bottom line, Alderman Cardenas demand equality advocating your constituents not cut corners by skirting municipal fees and make those personal financial sacrifices rising up those bankbook account balances of the compassionate city government.

A previous AG in Michigan banned all police-unattended speeding and stoplight camera tickets. Reasoning these are criminal and not civil offenses here, the offense must be witnessed by a real live sworn ossifer. The current AG affirmed this decision and now the legislature is fixing to outlaw them.

Examples of lawbreaking elsewhere, which I of course would never condone, are offered in the following links. Stifle all outbursts of mirth and merriment as inappropriate, as city councils looking for extra revenue are quite exasperated.

Speed cameras are ridiculous. Took Western into the city the other day during rush hour. Fucks up the flow of traffic, I don't care what anyone says. Like the red light cameras weren't bad enough with people slamming on their brakes in front of you when the light turns yellow, now in the middle of rush hour traffic comes to a crawl. I used to love the City, actually still do, but avoid it like the plague because of all this bullshit. Nothing about safety, just $$$ and more aggravation for people.
