Why Hire This?
This certainly looks like some quid pro quo of some sort:
A civil rights attorney with a history of suing the city over alleged police misconduct has been chosen to serve as Mayor Brandon Johnson’s director of strategy, a move that one pro-police City Council member called a “serious conflict of interest.”
Sheila Bedi is a clinical professor of law at the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law and director of the Community Justice and Civil Rights Clinic. The clinic describes itself as providing “students with opportunities to work within social-justice movements on legal and policy strategies aimed at redressing over-policing and mass imprisonment.”
It was in that role that Bedi drew the attention of a congressional committee for representing a pro-Palestinian group that shut down the road leading to O’Hare Airport last year to protest Israel’s role in the war in Gaza.
[...] Bedi was also the attorney who represented activist Miracle Boyd and persuaded the city to compensate Boyd with a $280,000 settlement for being roughed up and having her front tooth knocked out by a Chicago police officer during a 2020 protest at the Christopher Columbus statue in Grant Park. That statue has since been removed from its pedestal.
And Bedi served on the legal team for the family of Dexter Reed, who was shot to death by police officers in 2024 after Reed shot and wounded one of them during a traffic stop. A $1.25 million proposed settlement that would have compensated the Reed family stalled in the Council’s Finance Committee amid opposition from pro-police Council members.
Ald. Matt O’Shea (19th), one of the police union’s staunchest Council supporters, called Bedi’s appointment a “very serious conflict of interest because of her history” of representing activists in legal action against the city.
She can certainly do more damage to city taxpayers and city finances as an insider, that's for certain, pushing for settlements without trials and opening the already-empty accounts to further depredation.
Just another dumb move by Conehead who is determined to break the city finances for his political masters over at the CTU.

O'Shea....mad cause he didn't get his cut of the action....
They will rig anything they can.
Anything.
Quid pro quo? She's been sending $100 per month to BJ's re-election campaign fund for several years.

"She can certainly do more damage to city taxpayers and city finances as an insider..."
That's clearly the motivation here. That's how communists reward each other - with YOUR MONEY. They believe they're ENTITLED to it. If we cut off the flow of cash to these people, we end A LOT of our problems with them.
A question for the HR types-
Wouldn’t this be a
Conflict of Interest?
Money laundering through patronage. Business as usual in Chicago. City broke but continuing to create more six-figure fake jobs.
Bankrupt the city already.
Literally no smart person should own property in Chicago due to the tax consequences.
They are taking the whole anti policing and incarceration thing all the way. Conehead sure doesn't seem worried about reelection which means he has a plan. It's time for serious push back by the voters before Chicago descends into madness.
Reed and Boyd say no more
Lol. The fox guarding the hen house. Just how far can Johnson push his woke crap
Out went Andrea Kersten. In comes Sheila Bedi. Yep, that makes sense.
She’s like a hemorrhoid, she just won’t go away.
Only hired as a puppet to do his dirty work and abide to HIS rules.
