Arbitration Win?
Anyone know if this is true?
If you switched over from the SIG 320 save your receipts, we won our arbitration and the city has to compensate those who purchased them.
You shouldn't be penalized for following the General Orders if the City changes the rules in the middle of the game.
There's a way for the City to avoid all of this nonsense and it's been proposed more than a few times. Most police departments in the nation or the entire world do it:
- go to a single model issued firearm
All weapon upgrades would be uniform across the board, all replacements, all parts, all repairs under a single contract, all armorers qualified by the manufacturers. In the event of a disaster-type scenario, all Officers would have the ability to swap out magazines with co-workers.
But someone is obviously getting paid off somewhere along the line.

First, define the problem to be solved, by defining the end result desired.
The problem with a single model/manufacturer of this item, vital to those employed in this profession, is that of fit, as in, one size does not fit all hands. Not all hands on deck, nor all hands on dick, nor all hands wherever they might be required to be.
Thus, as any other profession utilizing tools operated by hand(s), the professional individually chooses the tool(s) of their trade.
So, an ample listing of specifically approved makes and models of this particular tool of this particular trade is referenced to calibers and loadings of limited variety.
Also, as the realities of this region's practicing of this profession, being extremely dynamic in the category of neccesity to utilize the tool(s) of this trade, are the prime reference factors to consider, expanding the variety of approved make/model is the solution to the actual/practical problem.
This post illustrates lack of knowledge about firearms. Not everyone is suited for the "universal" firearm. Hand sizes differ, grips differ, recoil differs, etc.
There is not one perfect, "universal" firearm. That's like saying, let's purchase a fleet of the cheapest cars manufactured for squad cars. Let's all squeeze into Yugo's and Kias.

320 should have never been banned. Sig has been winning in court against knuckleheads who blame the gun for their own negligence.
Many departments issue a weapon even the state police so they all stay the same and you are correct. This way you can switch the magazines and you have uniformity amongst the coppers. Wait a minute this is the Chicago Police Department or you cannot find two coppers that are dressed alike. It will never work here. We have no standards. We don’t even have hiring standards. Look what they’ve been hiring.
I hope this is true and if you got rid of your receipts from your Sig P320 purchase you might still be able to get proof of purchase from your city gun registration form, product registration with Sig or contact the gun store directly if you bought it after 2018. Anyone at our union want to take a break from online shopping and stuffing your underwear with cash from the office safe and come to rollcall and explain this please?
GMac had a deal in place for every (then) currently sworn officer to receive a Glock 19, leather and transitional training. (Just like NYPD did). 9.5 put the kibosh on that citing costs. It was less that 1k per officer.
Glock 17 or 19 for patrol, Glock 26 for detectives. Issue all G17 magazines. Done.
It's that simple, save your receipts and submit them when you can.
Their own negligence would indeed result in a win for SIG but they’re losing all the court battles when the weapon discharges on its own. You can look it up. The gun is faulty.

The BIG, Budgetary Issue is Standardization of Ammunition.
Given initial Qualification and periodic Re- Qualification ( monthly? quarterly?) over an typical 20 year-25 year career on the Mean Streets, the cost of Ammunition will equal or exceed the acquisition cost of the weapon.
The purchase price of the Pistol is fixed and historic and never increases while you are wearing it; Ammunition costs more every time you buy it.
In an Emergency, Standardization of Ammunition is absolutely critical, and the ability to share with other Agencies ( to include Army/ Marines, etc.) is vital.
Mine still works really well.

The city should buy up some revolvers. You'll sign it out at the beginning of your shift. Check it in at check off, with your radio.

G17 magazines sticking out of the mag well on smaller guns is ridiculous. Glock fanboys are the worst.
A vocal minority wants a single issue firearm, but would cry when they if it happened and it wasn’t a Glock.
I think the “single gun” concept is a bad idea.
And I also think the “swap mags with your partner” is a fear mongering point.
In my decades on the department I can recall less than a handful of times where a copper needed a mag from his partners.
If you can’t get it done with your 3 magazines, why should I give you a 4th mag to waste? At that point hold position and let the professionals come clean up your mess.

I’d love to hear the story about the last time you had to switch mags with your coworkers.
That’s so far and few between that it doesn’t make sense as a go-to argument.
Manage your 3 mags correctly, get to the range, and you shouldn’t have a problem.
I love all these complaints about coppers and their irrational fear of a “heat” style running gun battle where you’re jut endlessly mag-dumping. “Hey bro, toss me some rounds, I’m out”

Ahh hell to the no. Glock just bent the knee, all Glocks are being discontinued, v models to follow supposedly harder to put in switches. Who knows what else that will affect. Sigs quality is questionable at best, smith/glock/hk/Cz whatever as long as it’s dependable.Rather buy my gun then get anything issued. Uniform checks cover cost of new gun easy.
I think you get to keep your SIG, I mean keep the receipts for your new gun and holster and accessories.
