Hey, Look - a Tax Increase
On July 1 the state tax will hit almost 50 cents a gallon. Lawmakers made automatic annual hikes.
Illinois drivers will see another gas tax increase July 1.
The state tax will rise to 49.6 cents per gallon because of the automatic annual inflation increase built into the 2019 “Rebuild Illinois” infrastructure program signed by Gov. J.B. Pritzker.
How does this keep happening?
- When Pritzker doubled the state gas tax from 19 cents to 38 cents in 2019, lawmakers also ensured Illinoisans would face automatic inflation-linked increases every year without another recorded vote.
Ah yes....the "automatic" increases so no politician has to answer for it.

But if you're a trust fund billionaire who rides around in a taxpayer funded and fueled automobile, this doesn't affect you at all.

And you can blame other political parties for the increase in fuel prices....
Retired, out of state here. An automatic tax raise? RUFKM?
More BS by JB and crew. All they know how to do is raise taxes.
Drive to Wisconsin or Indiana.
Then. Stay there.
Seems the Illinois property taxes work the same way 🤬😡🤬😡
I can’t hate this pos more
Hey now SCC, our loving, kind and generous Governor along with the totally democrat controlled stste house and senate removed the 1% grocery tax which the governor touts as savings for Illinois residents. How kind, how thoughtful. The 1% tax was removed but allowed local municipalities to reinstate a 1% grocery tax which about 95% did and the resulting savings were…..ZERO!
But the never ending per gallon gas tax will never stop, year after year, after year. $0.02-0.03 cents per gallon which will cost far more to the citizens of Illinois than that huge $1.00 saved on a $100.00 grocery bill. Thanks Pigster for almost saving me a penny on a dollar, you can now tax me on that penny!
Buy Gas In Indiana!!!
hmmm E-85 in Monroe wisc 1.74 a gal in Madison 1.99 in IL 4.46. Gas in IL makes a run to the border worth it.
Short drive across the border saves 30-40 cents a gallon
For some reason the dummies that live here just can't stop voting for democrats. The fat fuck will win again.
higher taxes to pay for less space on the road for cars thanks to those bike lanes
Don’t buy my gas in Illinois, so I don’t care.
So why does anyone live here is the big question? Move out and you’ll be in a much better place.
FYI, here in Florida, we are bombarded with tv ads inviting us to visit Illinois. I have to mute the damn thing because of the ditty, something about meet me in the middle.
They need the money. Corruption is expensive.
Wow! Now that's a REAL stretch...asking people from Florida to go visit Illinois?? How about scenic Oakland CA.? Or historic Gary Indiana?
15 minutes from MO, cheap gas and big box stores right over the bridge....
Same commercial played out here in Arizona once an hour all weekend as I watched the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
ANd yet the dumb fuck liberals still thinks he great.
That is exactly the problem. Fucking Idiots.
E 85 gives 1/2 the mpg as regular gas
If you run out of tax dollars…tax more, it’s our money anyway. Things demoCraps believe.
Was in St Louis a week ago. IL gas prices along 55 were 4.79 - 4.99. Filled the tank with 3.89 gas in the Lou for the trip home. Look what great roads we get here from the high taxes! This state is like a dying mall writ large.
This "automatic" tax increase shows just how numb voters in Illinois are getting. Glad I moved away. The only thing automatic around here is garbage collection
Fat Bastard has never had to pay for anything his whole life. He and his ilk will never understand what it's like to be a working-class person.
