What's Going On?
This seems to be a regular occurrence all of the sudden:
An American Airlines flight bound for Charlotte was delayed Wednesday after the aircraft experienced a tire issue while taxiing for departure at O'Hare International Airport, according to the airline and federal aviation officials.
American Airlines said Flight 3280 had pushed back from the gate when the problem was discovered. The Federal Aviation Administration said the crew reported two blown tires while taxiing for departure at about 2:30 p.m. There were no reports of injuries.
Normally, we'd brush this off as happenstance - but....:
- The incident was the fifth involving blown aircraft tires in Chicago this month and the fourth at O'Hare. None of the incidents resulted in reported injuries. The occurrences have involved United, American and Southwest aircraft that were landing, taking off or preparing for departure.
We've been doing a bit of traveling in our retirement time along with a lot of other cops we know, so this is playing a part in plans. Plus, we needed to fill some space tonight.
Are these tires made in China or something?

From what I understand, united and America changed tire vendors recently...and the tires they're getting are ....RECAPS.
They got tires from Temu.
FOD
Foreign object damage
Dept of Aviation is responsible, as is everyone on ramps, gates, etc. To look for objects that can cause damage. Remember the Concorde crash in Paris? FOD
I'm retired living outside of Cook County.
Whenever I drive into the city, only on the Northwest side, it's like a war zone with the fucked up streets. I know - the city has no money to repair them. Perhaps the shit has spread to the airport.
Playing a part in plans….”hey honey, should we plan that trip to Florida?”
“I dunno, in a months time 0.0047% of the flights have had tire issues.” “Yeah, good point”.
Foreign object damage from poorly maintained runways and taxiways?
I was wondering if the taxi ways are being maintained by the same people that maintain the roads.
I want to see stats if this is happening in other landings also. Or is it ORDS shitty taxiways and Runways like the shitty city streets
My other half works for a major airline at ORD.
The companies and airport management have been watching videos from yesterday’s event. And ground support crews and ramp rats (luggage handlers) were being identified by videos and by assigned work locations. Why?
Tires fail all the time on aircraft. but the frequency of failures at ORD is not normal. And to have two tires fail on the same aircraft just leaving a gate is unheard of?
The suspicion is someone may be tampering with parked aircraft? And/or runways? Debris is on runways all the time and they check them regularly.
Working support vehicles cross active runways all the time? And could be related to runway tire failures?
Time to check the employees on the tarmac?
Thanks, that is funny.
The city potholes have spread to the airport. What did anyone expect from this shit administration, it was only a matter of time.
Send some of those Mexicans from the tire shops on Commercial Avenue. They will handle it.
Now, kees me you fool!!!!
Who are the people involved with keeping the taxiways and runways clean attached to? Probably a simple answer that will not be brought to light. Not a complicated issue.
Aren't the runways, taxiways etc supposed to be inspected several times a day?
They are gonna start installing bike lanes on the runways
Next time you’re at the Airport, take a look at the go-getters riding around in the yellow pickup trucks with non-stop flashing wig-wags on. They are in charge of making sure the Airport is free of foreign object debris. One can usually catch them taking a nap or playing on their phone.
Seems odd that all these incidents, occurring across multiple airlines, are only occurring in Chicago?
To save money, the airlines are purchasing their tires from TEMU
Stop Sticks???
Anybody brought this to Sec. Duffy's attention? It's bad enough you're trapped in a flying bus at 30,000 feet with knuckle dragging drunks, screaming kids and half your seat being devoured by a portly, extra stout. We're being nickled & dimed to death from start to finish, the least the airlines could do is have decent, functional equipment. We're paying for it one way or another.
You are absolutely correct. The City bleeds the airlines dry in fraud and provides subpar services. The Airport is a budgetary cash cow for the city. The IG won't investigate the fraud because their budget is subsidized by the airport
Sounds like they used the same contractor to build the runways and “new” police stations.
Prolly some of those newly decreed tires required now in California.
Went to florida last year and while taxiing we hit a few potholes..even the airport roads suck...go to any other airport and they have very nice clean, paved roads..only in Chicago is everything SHIT!
Pot holes! Just like the rest of ChiRaq. Third world airports in a third world city.
What scars me is the 25th anniversary’s of 9/11 is coming up. Not a conspiracy guy, but who really knows.
Yes. OPS does runway and taxiway sweeps. When they spot stuff on the runways, they contact the Airport Maintenance Complex and they dispatch city motor truck drivers out there with sweepers or laborers to pick up FOD and whateber else debris. Motor truck drivers usually do ramp area and service road runs with FOD blankets and magnets attached to their pickup trucks.
Nothing a plug or patch can't fix it's the chicago way! Safe travels.
Doesn't matter where the tires were made if you don't know where the airport crew with access came from.

Temu Tires
So the CPD unit charges with deploying the stop sticks have to practice somewhere right. I mean really they could be called out to actually use this equipment on a real call........... naw just fuckin wit choo They ONLY get to practice. So the dept of aviation can blame someone
