COPA Releases Video
From a shooting a year-and-a-half ago:
New videos and documents detailing the shooting of an alleged knife-wielding suspect by CPD in the lobby of a River North hotel back in April of 2025 have been released by the city’s office of police accountability.
On Thursday, officials from Chicago’s Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) announced that their office had released a host of materials in connection with the incident, including response reports and video that captured the shooting.
According to police, the incident unfolded just before 2:30 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2025, in the 100 block of East Hubbard Street, near State Street and Wabash Avenue in River North.
And in the entire article, there's not even a hint that COPA is attempting to hand out suspension time.
So is this a textbook "good shoot" or what?
We watches some of it and the main question we have is why are Tasers still being issued / used / required as a Use of Force option when they're inaccurate and ineffective, needless endangering Officers' lives via hesitation and time constraints in dynamic situations?
We weren't ever big fans, but in hindsight, we realize that they failed nearly as often as they worked, which aren't good odds in this job.

Don't bring a taser to a knife fight. Always 1 up the offender. Now that the weather is turning colder, these mf'ers have 2-3 sets of clothes on and tasers don't work on that
SCC, I agree. Taser deployments were absolutely the inappropriate response to a knife wielding assailant. Officers, remember the use of force paradigm. One step higher than the assailant. One critique: too many officers yelling out commands. One officer should be commanding the assailant, not all. Still good job. Hope all officers involved are OK. Stay Safe and healthy. Retired Dep. Chief
Two years ago? I guess there was no hurry.
Before I retired, our policy forbid using less than lethal force in lethal force situations. We would not have even had our Tasers out. I don't know what the policy is now but that seems like a good policy.
I always hated tasers. Especially when they first came out, watched a Sgt try to tase Pookie. Pookie had a heavy coat. Pookie looked down at the prongs, then at Sarge, and punched him in the face.
My baton/asp/OC never failed me. I wouldn't give Taser a chance to fail me.
Blow me, Hillard.
Tasers are reason number 123,456,583 million why I find this job annoying to the point of being unbearable. Just more useless crap I have to lug around. There was a time where I said that if they had a gun or a knife, and they don’t comply then shoot them. Just be slicker than Van Dyke. If they don’t have a weapon and don’t comply then put hands on them. If you can’t put hands on someone (brawl) then you shouldn’t be the police.
Problem is now probably half the department shouldn’t be the police. Maybe more.
The one step higher paradigm is no longer taught at the Academy. Fyi
true dat
Even Axon states clearly that it doesn't recommend using their
product on an armed subject. However, the recently introduced
Taser 10 is far more effective as an electronic stun device than
any previous model of the less-lethal option. It's expensive,
as are the cartridges, but it's far more accurate (even at 40
feet), much more efficient at what it does, and definitely worth carrying.
Ray gun
It works on Aliens
Y'all clearly aren't paying attention to how this dept treats people who use their guns. Adam Toledo was a good shoot and they fucked that guy hard. That's just one of many examples. If you're white they will fuck you
I pay attention to. The copper that shot Toledo blue lighted it to the scene. I slow roll everywhere and that strategy had been working great for me!
