Manpower Crisis Intensifies

How shorthanded are the "low crime" Districts?

This short:

This is all over social media, so don't be blaming us for noticing.

This isn't only a service issue to a District that pays quite a bit in taxes and receives little in the way of police presence. It's a safety issue that FOP ought to be addressing along with whatever aldercreatures represent the various neighborhoods up north.

Imagine it's August, the DNC is in full swing, and some ne'er-do-wells from panty-fa decide to do a march in front of 016 because they're assholes. Fifty or eighty show up and discover that there's a single officer working the desk.

What now?

We're thinking of the 3rd Precinct in Minneapolis in 2020:

That's 2023 and we aren't sure if it's still there or they finally tore it down.

Same with CFD on the northwest side and in the outskirt (tax paying) neighborhoods we all live in. Same crap. The ALS trucks and engines are downgraded to BLS and the ambos are not in their respective areas. They’re pulled to the assist the usual suspects with all of their dysfunctional issues.

016 area doesn’t have police or EMS protection. Call your alderman and demand answers. Don’t hold your breath for resolution, tho. The city sees no value and has no regard for the law abiding tax paying citizen. None.

Stop bitching about the manpower in 016 … it’s been an issue for years now and nothing has changed and nothing will change. Until there is a major incident and I mean major nothing will be done about how understaffed that district is. I’m sure that sign has been already removed and I’m sure it has been addressed to not put anything regarding how short they are to the public again !
No one cares ! Let see how they react to a ton of off duty shootings where the offenders have no business that far north. Once the bodies start piling up then it will be an issue

Lived in 016 for 25 years. Its not just manpower, its also about lazy pieces of shit who don't want to do any work whatsoever. Called them 3 times in 25 years, spent more time listening to them trying to get out of doing any work, that is after waiting over an hour for them to get there. What they don't get is, despite their complaints of being busy. Usm g/016 tells a different story. So forgive me when I don't feel sympathy for these lazy mother fuckers.

That police precinct in Minneapolis burned because the Mayor and the Chief of police ALLOWED it to happen. In fact, they were part of instigating it, going so far as to order the entire staff to be present until (I think) 10:00 PM at which point they received an order to EVACUATE IMMEDIATELY! The police got out of the back door just as the Panty-fa mob went crashing through the front door. They wanted the optics of the mob moving in and the cops running like scared rats. Some of the police barely got out of there alive. But the mayor and the police chief were in on it. Absolutely disgusting.

And it won't get any better either. Sadly, some of the problem folks leave and go on to ruin other communities. And people put up with it all. With all the victim-hood and talk of racism you would think this was 1964 not 2024. The BLM riots were disgraceful. This country is fucked beyond repair. Things have been on a downward trajectory for decades. Now we are no better than a third world nation in many respects. If you had the means and will to move to another country where would you even go. New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Europe? All fucked except Hungary.

Show us the A&A sheets...

If true...that person working took the time to create and put up a sign, in the time that he/she could have been providing police service. Which is what they are paid to do.

I always hated people who put up useless little signs in the districts and offices. Whenever I had desk duty, I tore them down inconspicuously. I was once on desk duty for an entire period, and when I started there were numerous dusty boxes of paper piled up behind the desk. Logs, bulletins, etc...

I made friends with the custodian, and had him take them to the dumpster. About 5-6 boxes a day for about 2 weeks. I never said a word about it to anyone, and no one noticed for almost a month. Someone mentioned how nice the desk looked, and I just smiled. I was asked if I wanted to continue working at the desk for another period, and I requested that that honor be shared with the rest of the watch. The boxes began to accumulate shortly thereafter.

If that 016 sign was true, did that person get watch commanders pay for a day? Why couldn't the DC come in and work a tour as WC?

I'm calling BS on that picture, until I know more.

I’m sure you’re right. Those 3 calls you made over 25 years concerning a disturbance that you had with your mother over not flushing the toilet, her making you jello with fruit inside, and of course that time when you refused to move the water hose when she asked, which isn’t much considering you never paid her any rent. Maybe you can move to a real district like 022 but that would require you becoming independent. In meantime, get back down to your mom’s basement before she takes away your internet privileges. Jello has bananas in it today so don’t call 911 again!

The lazy, fat and useless officer who posted this (R.H) has been nothing but a problem on the desk. Unfortunately, despite his supervisor’s best efforts, his district desk bid is untouchable. So this is the end result of his pathetic existence as a police officer. The supervisors working had no idea he put this stupidity up, as it was concealed within the revolving door, which nobody but citizens use. He did this solely to decrease his workload, as is his natural instinct.

Oh well, nothing will happen to his sorry ass, but the supervisors who are stuck babysitting him will undoubtedly pay for his idiocy. Gotta love CPD. There should be no district desk bid positions. Nothing worse than having someone like R.H. On the desk and there is nothing you can do about it.

The 008th District is the same. I lived on the west end of 008 for 10 years. All the beat cars are on the east end. I called 911 twice in 10 years and the response was abysmal. One time someone was putting a boot to my neighbors front door. It was wintertime, late at night, freezing cold outside. I called 911, identified myself as a PO and asked for assistance. I went outside in blue jeans, sweatshirt and gym shoes, no coat, to investigate. It was a belligerent drunken pollack, he swung at me, I did an emergency takedown, and cuffed him. By now every porch light on the block was on and everyone was peeking out through their blinds to see what was up. It took over thirty minutes for a beat car to arrive. I was pissed because of the shitty police response time, this was 20 years ago when manpower wasn’t an issue. The young officers with zero time on the job were acting pissed off at me, because the arrestee was drunk and puked in their car and was ill and demanding a ride to the hospital. The elder officer accused me of beating up the arrestee. That’s when I knew this job was no longer the job I signed up for. It went steadily down hill thereafter. I’m glad I survived until retirement. The postscript..the guy was so drunk, he was at the wrong house, on the wrong street, a block from his house. He thought his wife wouldn’t let him in. My neighbor and his family appreciated my having their backs that’s all that mattered!

I’ve been saying this for years. No reason to be open all night. There’s nothing pressing that needs a report at the desk overnight. These stations are very dangerous. The most unsafe facilities in Chicago. I don’t know of any suburbs that are open after 5:00pm. And most are closed all weekend.

The day to day job of an officer on the watch is survival - both in the literal sense, and surviving the cutthroat nature of everyone evading calls. You have no choice but to adapt to the dog asses or get overwhelmed. This inside do nothing was probably being swamped with beat officers directing calls inside. It happens all the time, in every district, but especially with accidents pd only in the 16th district. So this officer adapted to the situation and pushed everything he could onto another district. It has been an art form the last five years or so.

Worked in 016 in the 70s, hated it too many people who did not want to work or did not know how to work. Left there and found out there were better places to work on the job. Lived in 016 for years and like the above commenter said I encountered over the years POs who did not want to do anything. What really got me when they tried to snow you, forgetting the t
person they are talking to is also the police. Of course there are people like this all over the department. Crime is all around now in 016. Of course maybe it’s too late to expect police service as the left wing Democrats are turning the city over to the criminals and illegal aliens

It doesn’t matter if 016 is short staffed or not majority of the officers there don’t want to work and can care less that a great deal of us live there. Morale and camaraderie is the worst I ever seen. The supervisors and leadership were the absolute worst and contributed to a hostile work environment. They never were the police. Full of story tellers with no complimentary history. Favoritism was based on ass kissing, race and gender versus work ethic. Truly a terrible place to work. The day I left was the best day of my career.

Here is something else PLET Professional law enforcement training had the contract for teaching the young and old coppers. Many had so much street experience, but then Larry came in and the academy kids working inside Larrys little posse decided they wanted the contract coppers gone and wanted the other children inside to hide err help them train. The kids have no experience none of them that his best story was how he was the dui guy who other coppers called to take over their stops. Ok larry your move!

6/17/2024 01:48:00 PM

Um....PLET is run by a buddy of ex Sup Brown. They were shoved by Brown onto the Det Div to do training even though they had no experience in Chicago, Cook Co, or Illinois dealing with the insane politicians and States Attorneys. They were given a contract over more qualified companies and over the protests of high ranking supervisors in the Det Div. I'm not sticking up for Superintendent Given not earned but PLET was a mistake.

I was greeted by a quizzical expression and not sure as to what I was talking about. A second desk officer heard the conversation and directed me to the "white shirt" at the other end of the desk.

I asked the "white shirt" (Sgt) the same inquiry. He told me to contact Public Affairs for a statement. I advised him that I did not want a statement from public affairs but rather where to I go if I need some type of non-emergency services, e.g., lost car keys (16, 17 or 25); or if needed, an emergency response (911) to my home. Which district will respond. He looked at me in a disinterested manner. I thanked him with a smile as he has answered my inquiry as expected. Nobody knows nuttin. Rh is old and frail.
Rh is very funny and a great de-escekator.
Rh writes great short reports.
Rh needs to stay off medical.
The sign said nothing wrong. If he said the same thing he said nothing wrong.

What,if he didn’t say or write anything. People would be waiting for 2 hours and then complain that no one warned the.

Rh should be assigned to callback for 1 week while it’s investigated and then put back 016 after finding of exonerated.

Rh would learn to never do that again and not be harmed.

Maybe he’s a friend, relative all legit
Even if he stutters and stammers do a , what we called contact card, whatever you call it , to at least identify the person, car facts of stop.

SCC, sorry this is off topic but can we push the following true narrative:

Preventable medical errors account for appx 400,000 deaths nationally
https://wilsonlaw.com/blog/400000-patients-die-from-medical-malpractice-each-year/#:~:text=An%20article%20by%20John%20T,as%20400%2C000%20deaths%20per%20year.

The average death by police shooting is ~1,000
https://www.statista.com/statistics/585152/people-shot-to-death-by-us-police-by-race/

How the fuck do we get such a bad rap? Don’t get me wrong, I love medical personnel and doctors, but we know whenever an officer discharges a firearm and someone dies but how do we know 400k from medical malpractice can be higher. Why can’t we can’t we talk about that? Kinda insane to me

A long time ago, when TARA was up and we could work OT in short districts, I went to 008. I was partnered up with another visiting officer working 3rd watch. Out of the box we had 2 simple jobs on the west end of the district. We went, talked to the people, and solved the issues. The people seemed happy and grateful for our help. On the 3rd job it was a neighbor dispute that was a little more involved, but as we were working thru it, I'll never forget this, one of the parties said "you're not from here, are you?" I said we were from another district, but how could you tell? He tells us that the police in that area never get out of their cars to handle their jobs. It was the same thing we heard ALL night. We got a job at a church that an 008 car blew off and the commander had dispatch send us. There are 2 different Chicago Police Departments. The one you you hope is coming when you call and the one you get.

I'm no detective, but if a random guy is observed walking down the street with a package that he was observed taking from an address down the street, with someone else's name on it, there's probably grounds for a bit of an investigation. We would call the totality of the circumstances in this situation "reasonable articulable suspicion" to justify a stop and further investigation. If he proves it's his package or that he has a legitimate reason to be taking it for a walk, he'll be free to go. If not, it's the easiest thing in the world to find the victim. Packages have names and addresses on them. Are you really this stupid or just trying to justify laziness and bad police work?

Every internet retailer offers a dekivery on signed for shipments only, at a higher cost for same.

No signed for, no delivery.

Choosing delivery that can be made by placing purchases upon your stoop, is stooooooopid.
