This is Still Going On?

Are they trying to drag this out until someone dies?

  • Ten years after the FBI began its aggressive pursuit of corruption inside Illinois’ halls of power, toppling some of Chicago’s most entrenched old-school politicians, a defense attorney finally uttered five words Tuesday that could turn out to be a game-changer — or a colossal mistake.

    “The defense calls Mike Madigan.”

Moments later, jurors who’d heard from nearly 60 witnesses over three months at the Dirksen Federal Courthouse found themselves finally listening to the Southwest Side Democrat accused of turning his political empire into a criminal enterprise: Michael J. Madigan.

The former Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives wore a gray suit, light blue shirt and purple tie as he climbed onto the witness stand inside the 12th-floor courtroom of U.S. District Judge John Blakey.

Just last week, lawyers were arguing over the meaning of the word, "corruptly," which describres just about every political give-and-take in Illinois. but somehow has never been legally defined in Springfield.

Madigan taking the stand is pretty interesting, as it will subject him to intense cross-examination in coming days or weeks. It is also sharp departure from what aldercreature Ed Burke did just last year, refusing to take the stand, which may have contributed to his conviction. Jurors want to see the defendant deny being a criminal. It's just human nature.

We'll see if he can pull off the "grandfatherly" bullshit enough to sway the jury.

Just because he was smart, knew the game, and was successful, doesn't mean he committed a crime. I haven't been following the case, and reading tidbits on the news, in the media and here, means little. If these were the only sources of relevant reliable information who would ever believe a police officer today? I might root for Mad Madigan if only to see the FBI lose.

Only the jury has all the information.

We all know Madigan is guilty as sin but I'd love to see him beat the case and stick it to the feds. He's been disgraced and is spending close to a million for his defense. The fact they let Solis go is the crime.

Madigan ran the police department for decades. That's why there's so many incompetent promotions.

They should investigate the corruption within the CPD upper ranks. The pay to play and quid pro quo is off the charts specifically in BIA and 35th St.

Bribes or gratuities. The 2024 Supreme Court decision in Snyder says there's a difference. That's probably why the defense thinks calling Madigan to the stand will allow him to describe his conduct as legal.

Madigan is throwing a hail Mary pass here. It's time to roast him and sentence him to prison. He will likely receive a light sentence like Ed (The Big Tuna) Burke did. After all this is Illinois were talking about. I can't wait until we see who all the politicians are that write letters on Madigan's behalf asking for a light sentence. Then Illinois can re-elect them and start the cycle all over again...Chicago, Cook county, and Illinois have always been corrupt and always will be.

You know very little about politics, dont you? Ed Burke did more to damage CPD than any politician in recent history. We still have supervisors and bosses that gave Burke an evelope stuffed full of cash to get promoted.

Fed here. Yes USAO is dragging it out. Every kid fresh out of law school in that office needs to touch a piece of this trial as a resume-builder for future endeavors. In the meantime other cases are not moving, NDIL is a joke and isn’t much better than States Attorney.

Hopefully the jury isn’t swayed by a career bull$hitter. Unfortunately Illinois is so corrupt (politicians commit crimes to enrich themselves) and the citizens so numb to it, that Mikey may come off as the victim.

Is it too late for Duru’s on LaSalle Street to whip up a version of Vincent Gigante’s bathrobe and slippers for Mike Madigan? His testimony is another gimmick in Madigan’s bag of tricks. Madigan’s web includes many appointments on boards and committees throughout the state.

If Conehead keeps it up with the teachers’ union he might be next. Chicago is America’s most corrupt city, and Illinois is the third-most corrupt state, Political and government-related bribery, extortion, fraud, conflicts of interest, theft of campaign funds, and tax cheating continue to undermine the public’s trust in government.

A CFD Fire Assistant commissioner just plead guilty to five separate counts of Child Sexual Abuse. He agreed to 60 days concurrent for each of the five criminal counts in Tom Dart's Department of Erections at 26 & Cal. Less than one year in the pokey. Such a deal! Maybe his attorney should have argued what constitutes a child and Sex Abuse to get his client off.

II. Conducting thorough, objective, and timely investigations.
III. Updating complainant(s) on the progress of the investigation.
IV. Ensuring transparency. 😂
