And Speaking of Shortages....
Building on the post directly below this one, we got an interesting e-mail about the "quiet defunding" going on here in Chicago:
- Hey SCC, just thought you'd like to know. The current manpower levels of the CPD are around 8,000 bodies. That isn't just blue shirts - that is everyone from Larry to the newest rookie. Not only that, the city has just about reached it's hiring numbers for the year, a grand total of 250 officers. Keep in mind there are about 1,000 retirements on tap for 2026, so that's a net loss of 750 bodies.
The letter goes on a bit, but that's the meat of it.
Eight thousand is a ridiculous number for twenty-two District and five Areas.
Is the Great Re-Districting finally upon us?
