OK...a 022nd District thread

Can anyone summarize what is happening in 022? We're getting comments in a whole bunch of threads, so we'll give it its own post. Complaints about armed robberies of police family members, cars not being where they should, no back up on scene and slow response time for assists. What the heck is going on out there? We haven't heard anything about this over where we are.

What exactly were the girls doing out at 1am? Were they drinking? What's their story?

At least the coppers in 022 are out driving around. Almost everyone in 016 on midnights is sleeping, and that's a fact.

In recent weeks at least three females, daughters of members, have been robbed in separate incidents. In the latest incident two friends of the P/O's daughter were also robbed.

At the time of that robbery (1st watch on Saturday) beat 2211 (and maybe a second beat car) were sent to the 11th districtfor some typeof unknown mission..

In regards to no back-up....it is pretty sad when detective cars have to code out jobs on beat 2211, the lowest crime beat in the district. It is located on the southwest corner of the city and alot of P/O's and firefighters live there.

Remember Pam Zekman years ago did a series on "Killing Crime" by CPD? I think it was when Brzecek was superintendent. It's happening again in 022.

Garage burglaries are reclassified as theft. Attempted burglaries are made CDTP. There are attempts to make aggravated batteries by firearm to hospitalization. Some folks have issues with the commander, but I am not sure about him. I'll let someone else comment about that.

Finally, I rarely see 2211 on the beat, except at the White Hen(s).

Lack of leadership, a lot of politically heavy sgts and p/os, the first watch is mostly all female.

The paper game is played. Do not make a crime what it actually is.

Do not work tac and leave the doc, or godforbid make an arrest outside of the doc area.

There selling narcotics at 3636 W 111th Street. There selling Heroin at 112th and Troy. These are both in white residential areas, therefore not in the doc area.

Five people have overdosed and died in the last four months on beat 2211. Tac men are ordered not to follow up because the DOC is more important.

All there concerned about is their bs accountability meeting on Fridays.

Welcome aboard, mate!

While I know that Auckland has some problems, I'd gladly trade places with the Aussies and the Kiwis on the South Island, particularly Queenstown. My counterparts in New Zealand, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth were most hospitable on my visits. You folks are the best.

I can tell you that the officers that work on 2211 on 3rd watch are real good guys. This goes for the ones on 2212 and 13. The west end is staffed with some good people on the 3rd watch. On the other hand there are others on 3rd watch that are....well...what is the word I'm looking for?...Lazy. thats right there are some that are lazy. One car will complain every time he is assigned a job. There are others that sit on nonsense calls. This only makes the workers have to do more.

Listen to zone 9 and listen to what kind of response a "shots fired" gets after 2330. no one came up, the dispatcher sat on the call for 30 minutes before giving it to a midnite start. That is pathetic.

I have dealt with personally with one of the midnight Sgts on a call. We got there before any of her cars. For the life of me I dont know how she was promoted to sgt. No idea where her cars were, didnt get on the radio to get them over there. She would just smirk and shrug her shoulders.

The only decent response on midnights would come from TRU or SOS if they were close to the or in the district.

Try not to paint everyone working in 22 with a broad brush. There are a lot of good people working there. The bad is noticed over the good. But I see where the supervisors have to get on these guys a$$es and make them do the bare minimum. That would be an improvement.

9 times out of 10 there is a RAP, otherwise these jobs are dispatched immediately..... There are a lot of good guys on midnights too. Some nights there are no cars available for the entire tour....

Alot of the time those cars coding out jobs are midnight detectives from 620 who live in the neighborhood and know 2211 is not out there, for whatever reason.

Dont you just love the DOC???? It means that in 008 or in 022 where the city workers live you have no poilce due to the fact they are bending over backwards for some animal that doesnt even want them there. As far as SOS/TRU if they are sent to 008 or 022 you have to stay in the DOC, and take a wild guess the white people dont live in the DOC.

I'd say it is usually K 9 or ET who lives in the district who calls in and codes out jobs in 2211. The same problem exists on 811, 812 and 834 -
022 is thankful for any help available!

Don't forget 016. Lots of cops and city workers too. We NEVER see SOS, TRU, or any outside assistance. In fact, it's even hard to find dicks from Area 5. The district is just too big to be policed the right way. After working in a busy district, it's interesting to see how different a slow district actually is. 32 square miles or so makes it really hard to get to your jobs quickly.
We need to have a thread regarding the idiot who had his car stolen in 014 and failed to report it or the guy who wrote someone's MOTHER a DUI. Seems like we have some great people here on the northside.

There was a response that sometimes there is a rap and cars cant respond to a shots fired. Hmmm, let me see, should I sit on the noise disturbance or should I go to the shots fired? Should I look for the susper or should I go on someone shooting a gun? I dont know, maybe prioritize for myself. Or maybe I should leave the White Hen on 103/artesian. All questions that can be asked by the midnite P.O.s

Also SOS has been in 022, they responded to a shots fired on 115/Church along with us. We stopped a car coming out of the alley at 115 st, SOS responds tosses the car searches the occupants. This was last summer. NO midnite 022 car ever showed up during the entire time spent with this car . And before anyone says it, there was no rap.

Maaybe SOS responded, but I doubt if they were assigned. It was LAST summer? One incident? I hope you don't want to be judged and condemned on any single incident - judged negatively - in your life.
Also, SO WHAT? Was this on midnights?
Another thing, if you are on a job, like a domestic, or on an arrest, or whatever, in the middle of whatever job - do you just tell the person there they can wait while you travel about 10 miles to a shots fired call?
If a slow down is given on a job - or a disregard - is there a reason to travel to it?

The other night (as I listened on my scanner) on midnights in 022 one of the sergeants had to code out several jobs on the beat of 2211. Nothing serious mind you, but no one else came up for the back-up. Where were all the other cars? It wasn't busy, so you tell me.

Then earlier in the summer there was a burglary in progress at the far southwest end of the district. The dispatcher throws out the call and no one answers. Some detective car comes up and says he'll roll on it but he is coming from a distance. A few minutes later the detective codes it out, it was unfounded. No one else responded and he was a 10-99 unit.

These are the things that go on at midnights when you and your families sleep. I know two or three midnight detectives are always cruising the neighborhood. At least I know there a chance someone will respond in a timely manner.

I hope the responses are constructive rather than the un informed rantings that have been posted already. Ask anyone who lives in 008, 016, and 022 - what would you REALLY do to improve the situation? One mentioned getting some Englewood Rangers to come over, unfortunately, when the come to one of these districts, it is because they are burned out in the fast district and want to RIP... Truthfully, 8 on the third watch is one of the busiest districts. 022 - on weekend nights - is extremely busy. 2211's beat has the fewest calls. One big problem is that many of the crimes are not reported...
I hate to see individual occurrences cited and then painting the entire district with a broad brush because 008, 016 and 022 are the same as any other unit or district, with regard to workers etc. If you look around, you will see that anywhere you go, 5% of the personnel do 85% of the work....
At any rate, I hope responders to this topic get informed before responding.. and do so constructively.

Unfortunately there probably is not a darn thing that can be done about the problems in Patrol and specifically district law enforcement until there is dramatic change in attitude both at HQ and city hall. Chuck Ramsey use to say that patrol is called the back bone of the police department but is treated like a place a little lower on the human anatomy. I know everyone says Cline and Mauer are great guys, and they are. And they were probably grat cops 25 years ago. But they and most of the others at 35th seem to have no clue what it is like working in a district in the 21st century. I hope this is the case because if they do know and this is their startegy they should be ashamed for the way they treat the men and women in patrol. They don't treat patrol like the backbone of the department that's for sure. In fact they treat patrol like a place a little lower on the human anatomy.

What can be done? Instead of having meetings and lecturing at people for two hours, maybe they should have meetings and sit down and listen to the problems officers have in patrol. Maybe Cline should come out to roll calls in a polo shirt and blue jeans and talk to the guys in the districts. Maybe spend the day with them listening to the radio to see what's really going on. Maybe a majority of promotions should come from patrol and not specialized units. Maybe this would be a start.

TO ANYBODY WHO DOESN'T ALREADY KNOW:

Nobody gets assigned to 022 without a stamp of approval. Every PPO, every PO off probation, every new Sgt, Lt & Capt. Nobody goes by luck like into 007 or 011. An old timer(very old timer) can bid to 022 and win the bid. If he/she is from a fast district they will feel & be alone on hot calls. After a few years the special police of 022 will realize they don't know what to do and then do even less in 022. Unit people dumped to 022 will like it (they were sent there to easy the dump), nice neighborhood, low crime, little opportunituny to show they have no idea of what police work is.

don't forget boys and girls 1st watch doesn't have rapid, or tac. Just beat cars and before the new 22nd district station no lockup. So 1 retarded domestic were she wants to go to the hospital a car could be down all night on a arrest. multiply that with tvb's, auto crashes, etc any district could easily be paralyzed. And don't think for a second that ops wouldn't give you 3 days for up and leaving a oec assigned job to go to another, I have seen it happen. And now with these new back log rules you'll probably never see the beat cars on there beats because 2211 will be handling 2232's beat because they are in on an arrest. Things will change when something big happens in Talley’s corner and everyone is down on jobs in the 20 and 30 sector. Biff will see to that.

The problem isn't only the 1st watch and it isn't just 22 for sure. Thing in 016 are horrible. You are rarely on your beat because you are covering someone else's beat. Only here, someone else's beat could be 30 or more blocks away. Today starts a very interesting time in 016. We have 12 people going on furlo. No rapids, a few schools to man, a gang team that hasn't been seen in the district since last year and a tact team who is assigned to a burglary mission in the 30 sector and isn't allowed to answer jobs, or make arrests that aren't burglary related. I always heard that 022 is the southside version of 016. Only difference is 022 isn't as big. It's starting to get weird that your closest help is miles away or there isn't anyone available.

Your full of shit. All you do is jump on the paper, having the p/os put your name on the paper, then you call the area for the real police (street dicks) to handle the job. Or you phone to give the heads up to the sergeant.(SNITCH)

You screw over the detectives on the rotation list on the third and first watch.

Lets talk about your invisible partner. He should have been indicted. Why did he appear at roll call and then disappear?

Why do you ride around with out a partner. You say you make a lot of arrests. When have you ever processed an arrest.

How come you and TL used the unmarked confidential vehicles for your personal use? How many times did you use the jeep to help the mutt move his girl friends kids property to college?

Most of us wished retired Detective PB kicked your ass.

Its common knowledge that A2 has the worst mission team out of all the detective units glory boy. stay on the medical.

I tend to agree with the last poster. Somebody failed a test!
Next time study harder or even better do a lot of police work and the test answers will come naturally!

Wow what is this all about. I could never understand why some coppers could be such a'holes to other cops. I don't know the detective he is talking about personally only through work. And I have never found him to be anything but generous with help and knowledge. Why turn on him when there is so many out there that don't do anything at all or even worse won't even respond to a call or for assistance? I have seen my share of jerks and a'holes on this job from P.O.'s to bosses! But funny thing is that you little weasels don't have the balls to approach them. Rather mess with a cop who is working. Reminds of the old story of the working guy makes dogs like you look bad.I think you are the complete jerk here and I'll tell you why. If you have a legitment beef or problem with the guy at least have the balls to approach him and tell him. I worked in 022 for over 7yrs before I left. And the guys who work the 10 sector cars on afts and the 05 car, do care about what is going on the west side of the dist. The problem is when you do something on the west side, the bosses dont have your back. And if a citizen walks in to complain that you looked at them a wrong way, the sgt is more that happy to take the CR. So after time you get sick of the B.S. you dont want to do any work over there. I live on the west side of Mt. Greenwood and i still patrolled the hood, but when the W.C. and sgts dont back you up on your work, you just dont work as hard, that why i left 022. Midnites in 022 is a BIG joke. There were times we would have to wait for mids roll call to start to see if they had enough bodies to work the street. All the dogs could not make it in time for the 2300 or 2400 roll call. You would look in the roll call room and only see 6 or 8 coppers in there...disgusting!! I thought when they made Capts, and put that female capt in charge of mids, things would change, YEAH RIGHT...all those dogs on midnites do what they want, when thay want. There are a couple (and i mean couple) good coppers on mids, last time i knew, but they are probably stuck there because the ball less D.C. wont put them on afts to work with other working coppers, because the little stats that are on mids, would fall to ZERO.

There's nothing wrong with the stats on midnights... and there are quite a few good police officers working on midnights.
There are only 9 beats working on first watch in 022, how many people would you expect to see at roll call?
Of course, there are some who do little or nothing, but that is common wherever you go, on the job or off of it... get real.
Anyone who doesn't care for working midnights and has been doing it for 2 or 3 years would be expected to desire a different watch.
Once again, I think your facts are skewed at best. How long ago did you leave? Why don't you come up with something constructive instead of the destructive diatribe you keep posting on this site?

I just wanted to say that I work in 005 1st watch for the past 7 years and 022 needs more bodies. 9 out of 10 in progress calls and we are always the 1st car on the scene. On any given night, there are at least 2-3 1 man cars.

it's also hard to get motivated to do anything in 022 when you have your bosses and the bad guys gunning for you. Like a certain back stabbing Sgt. "C". Who goes on hunting trips with p.o.'s in his sights. P.S. That officer he made blow during a tour blew all ZEROES!!! You missed sucker!!!

A LOT OF PEOPLE TALKING SHIT ABOUT 022 SOME OF ITS TRUE . I COME FROM A FAST DISTRICT AND TRANSFERRED TO 22. ITS HARD TO BREAK HABITS OF POS WHO ARE USE TO DOING THINGS THERE WAY. IF U LET THE PEOPLE IN CHARGE OF 22 TELL IT, ITS ONLY CRIME ON THE EAST END OF THE DISTRICT. THERE IS NO CRIME ACROSS LONGWOOD. WHY IS ALL THE SEAT BELT SAFETY CHECKS EAST OF HALSTED? I DONT KNOW WHAT I WAS THINKING OF NO ONE WEST OF WESTERN BREAKS THE LAW. NOW THAT CRIME IS HAPPENING ACROSS WESTERN IN YOUR GREAT AREA U DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO BUT BLAME YOUR CO-WORKERS BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT SITTING AT YOUR CORNER WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO FART SO THEY CAN BE ARRESTED. QUIT POINTING FINGERS SUPER COPS AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. THE COPPERS YOU'RE COMPLAINING ABOUT IS 9 TIMES OUT OF 10 YOUR NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR. WHO IS MORE THAN LIKELY PARKED IN THE GARAGE!
