Quick Hits for Tuesday

  • Shooting and car chase on the south side. Sounds like a good job all around by the POs. We're just amazed that there are still bosses around who let the police BE the police and chase criminals every so often. Kudos to them. Channel 2 and Channel 7 coverage
  • Bobby Rush is not just on the skids for his Chicago home, he's on the hook for his Michigan condo, too. Sun-Times report here
  • North and South side crime patterns solved. Tribune coverage of both here (registration may be required, but the Trib usually lets you read one article for free)

Someone please tell me if there still is a Housing Unit around? I hear them but I never see them? Maybe inspector should go to Housing and find out where they are?

Funny how no one is investigating or charging Black Panther Rush with using campaign funds to build his church. Godforbid we do our jobs and appear racist!!

The 26th District is in the academy.

My advice to the guy in 018 is to walk out of the station and go across the street if you are looking for housing. I know you've in Lowery's, Ruth's Chris, Morton's etc. But hey, that's where hair gelled super workers hang out. Good thin about 018 is a mirror is never far away.

Zone 4
"1814, we have a 'Quality of Life' in progress at Michigan & Chicago"

1814
"Please reassign that squad and hold me down with an on view number 2 parker"

Damn I look good.

The victim in the shooting was Quentin Richardson's (N.Y. Knicks) brother, who has since died at the hospital. A GREAT job by all 022 police involved!!!!

That's the second car chase 022 district personnel have allowed to continue and both resulted in big pinches. Good work to both the P/O's and supervisors.

The reason you don't see the Housing Units is because they are working in super, secret, stealth mode. When trouble happens, they spring into action and scoop up the bad guys immediately!

You wouldn't see them. That would require you to go into what is left of Cabrini, and god knows you wouldn't want to do that! Not without a 5 minute tirade on the radio!

Either that or they are pissing off the 018 coppers who think they are the only ones allowed to eat in 018!

Car chases should be authorized on a sort-of sliding scale depending on cause, location, time, and other variable "danger" factors.

I'd start with cause. Anything for aggravated violence should be allowed to continue unless there are some VERY STRONG and COMPELLING reasons not to let it.

Almost anything on midnights should be allowed to continue except maybe on Rush street or the like.

But theft or whatever, downtown or around schools letting out or whatever, are questionable (in the public's eyes).

Both of the chases in 022 are examples of the types of things that should be allowed to continue, and its good that the supervisor assigned (or who volunteered) to monitor had the good sense to let them.

I agree. You have to weigh the circumstances. With that being said, sitting behind the wheel of a squad car pursuing a vehicle gets the adrenaline going. In a sick way it almost becomes personal and being the police, we never want to admit defeat. I work in 022 and know the Supervisors & Officers involved, and they all did a great job!

Actually, it was only 3,266. However good the information, nobody will read it all. Learn how to post a link to the article please. Try Googling "create a hyperlink" for info.

I wish the asshole bashing 16 and probably the same goof who keeps mentioning D.C. would stay away. Or at least identify him/herself. Better yet, just post a picture of your dick so we all can see just how big that runty little thing is. That's all the comments are meant for anyway. I'm better than you, hah!!!

Asshole.

After listening to the bitching and looking at the stats (clear is good for something) 022 isnt what it used to be. you guys are getting killed in robberies, but clearing alot with arrests, calls for service are way up. Even the FOP was able to figure out you are 20% undermanned, I hope you guys get some man power. other wise look out for each other and stay safe I hope the young tact kids injuries arent to bad and is back soon.

The article in the TRIB was funny, the officer (with broken ankle) chasing mutt down the street (with broken leg)! GREAT JOB TO ALL OFFICERS INVOLVED!

I want to congradulate the officers involved in the chases

My only concern is "how do we safely stop a vehicle fleeing at a high rate of speed in an urban setting using another vehicle?"

The 022 chases were a combination of good poilce work and a LOT of luck

Many officers suffer serious, crippling and fatal injuriees in car chases

Add to the equation the poorly maintained CPD fleet and the other drivers oblivious to the lights and sirens and you havea recipe for disaster
I admit our pride gets in the way but for my money its better safe than sorry

I will now prepare my self to be motherfucked all the way to the pension bd. But if I save one coppers life it will be worth it

To the guy that wants to hear from 022 bashers. I have to eat crow Truely "good job". So tell me where was 2211 during all this and how they assisted? Im not being a smart ass either.
I know 022 has some good po's and that no dist or unit is immune from the dogass syndrome. The nature of the beast is that if you have a nice slow beat your called a dogass. I hope that my beat po's really do want take pride in their job and try to make a difference. But I couldnt tell you if they do because I've never seen them West of the tracks at Sacremento. The closest Ive seen a beat car is Kedzie (Burger King, McDonalds, White Hen, Burbon St and the like). Im not saying they cant have lunch. I just would like them to patrol more. I dont care if they just drive around and just look at everybody's Xmas decorations. The truth probably is that when I do see a squad going up and down the blocks it will be because they have to be there not because they want to just like the East end.
As an old timer once said "When you see the police on everyday in your neighborhood, it's time to move."
Again good job

There is a certain amount of risk needed to maintain order. Yes, you old fool, the police should chase(and catch) robbery and murder suspects. Without the threat of being caught we would have anarchy. Now get your ass to some Del Webb, gated community where you can get the $8 hour security guard-type police which you so richly advocate.

018 needs to stop crying about housing and the overtime you lost... get over it anyone can walk over to your Honerable mention board and see what a joke you dont need 5 people on 5 rock case sorry...I guess sandbagging a bunch of yuppies for parkers and movers and shoplifters is "real police" work. I will admit some of the guys in 018 are good guys but the other half are a bunch of beatoffs thats why 018 has the rep they carry
