SCC For FOP President
If nominated, we will not run. If elected we will not serve. Too much other stuff on our plates. But thanks anyway.
I have predicted from day one that SCC will build a political base from this website (I think I just blew my anonymity, at least in my district) and run for FOP Prez. Wheher by design or chance, I say, why not? If he/she was clever enough to plant the seeds of office well in advance by starting this website then we can hope that same cleverness will benefit us in negotiations with the city. If candidacy is merely an accidental by-prodcut of this website, oh well. Our "union" is the source of every rant, complaint, kvetch, bitch, moan on this site. Even the seemingly trivial complaints can be traced back to job dissatisfaction caused by/allowed to continue by our so-called "REPRESENTATION." If SCC announces, we shall see a VERY interesting election with some serious Shit-slinging! Hell, even if it turned out to be "meet the new boss,same as the old boss," I'd still enjoy the show!
Anybody notice that copper standing behind the Cardinal at the news conference the other day as he spoke about his surgery? Who is he and why does he feel the need to have his star hanging around his neck? What does he do besides open the door and carry the Cardinals luggage? He looks like a two year wonder with some clout. Was he on duty or off duty working a side gig?

CPD provides full-time protection for our Cardinal, thank God!!! That copper the other day could have been a PO from the watch who got tapped to cover the regular guy on his day off/vacation etc.. If he is the regular guy,he is suppose to be a real piece of political shit w/just a few years on. A friend of mine w/30 years on had that job for several years. This jaggoff started policticing for the job w/the backing of the 018 3rd watch CO(does bitch/cunt ring a bell?)The heat was put on my friend, and he decided to retire. He went and saw the Cardinal and told him he was sick of the crap and was going to retire. The Cardinal, being the civilized, standup guy that he is asked my friend "Would u like me to make THE call" My friend declined and thanked him and said it was best to retire. He guarded him several years and they were actually friends. Who ever posted before me is right; someone w/only a few years has no business in that position as a fulltime assignment;and thats what this blog should address. Shine the light on these f#ckers!!! I went to a meeting once...It was the biggest BS session I have ever witnessed. All the trustees walking around saying..."you guys are really doing a great job out there" FUCK YOU ED!.

I used to go to the FOP meetings. I was even an FOP Unit Rep. I can honestly say we are being conned. When I tried to ask about certain issues or bring up things for contract negotiations, I was pulled aside and told just to come to the meetings, keep my mouyh shut, and get my dues reimbursed just like the rest.
Oh, maybe you did not know that. If you are an FOP rep and attend more than six meetings a year, you get your dues back. That is the only reason the vast majority are reps. It is a scam.
FOP is surgically attached to the hip of the City. There is one way to send them a message. It takes a very large number of us- hundreds. Cancel the payroll deduction for your dues. Then refuse to pay any future dues. FOP will not try to fire so many cops at one time and they will get a strong message. But, alas, there are not enough guys who care. Me, when I retire, FOP will not get one dime of my money. None. I am embarrassed to even be a member now.

The truth is that the WORKERS in Area 5 have no problem with Dean Andrews. Hardworking Detectives just bid in form other Areas and were immediately asssigned Homciides. the clearup rates are for the most part excellent. the entire Division is struggling with Homcide clearups as we get used to ERI & 48 hour rule. Dean is not easily bullshitted and recognizes scammers and bow-wows. Too bad for them. With Sgts like Cirone, Holy,Vail, Max,Garrido,etc the Dicks are backed up and the workers are treated well. Cry babies leave and the unit is better for it

I increased my deferral amount recently and it was deducted from my paycheck but Nationwide doesn't have it. Nationwide told me that the city can take the money from your checks but keep it for 30 days before forwarding it if they choose. WTF?! How many city workers do they do this to and how often? Do they put it in a sweep fund and generate interest at our loss? NRS tells me it's legal. Before I log a lot of time/hassle researching this, I thought maybe someone out can verify this is legal and what are the guidelines.

Great post. I don't think many people under 30 remember the implications of the Cold War. I was stationed in the Fulda Gap with the 11th ACR (the Black Horse) during the mid-80's. The Soviets coming through the Gap was a fact of daily life. Whether the threat was real or imagined we'll never know, but it was perceived to be real. Korea, Vietnam, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Afghanistan, Cuba, massive troop levels in Europe, arming the Taiwanese, etc., were all battles in the cold war. Even the Arab-Israeli conflicts lined up along Cold War lines. It was a global chess game that we couldn't afford to lose. Coldtype should take note that so-called communist/socialist revolutions are invariably led by a small group of disenchanted middle class pseudo-intellectuals. They promise the masses utopia with the typical smugness of the intelligentsia. They are smarter and know better (kind of reminds me of the Clintons). The irony of it is that countries that spent a significant amount of time under Communist rule quickly had the intelligentsia crushed. When the wall fell it was the average man & woman who took the streets of eastern Europe and demanded Liberty.

It is not only legal, but somewhere in the fine print of the literature you received it says so. Since most of us never bothered to read it, it has caused discussion ever since. I got in the first year it came out and they told us this up front. It is legal because you are informed of it.

I have filed a grievance with FOP and They denied it so I am waiting to appear before the grievance committee to appeal Fallon's denial.
Other police departments Naperville PD also have Nationwide but they get the amount in their account the same day as payday no waiting..
My position is the city makes money on the float; the defferal taken out of your check on the first does not hit your account for 14 days if you are in fixed you lose 14 days interest on YOUR MONEY.
Great issue FOP refuses to do anything about it...

Unit 603: Thanks for the response. The last time I had a problem with NRS I wasted a lot of time and effort just trying to find out who is in charge of our deferred comp. As in who watchdogs for us, has ultimate fiduciary responsibility, who picks our fund choices (cuz they sure aren't asking the rank and file!. I got NO replies to multiple emails, phone mssgs. to entire FOP Finance committee, F.Hamid at Dept. of Finance. I don't mean uninformative response, I mean NO contact whatsoever. Real professional.

re: Deferred comp.
Finance dept. couldn't/wouldn't give me any answers either. FOP at first claimed ignorance then referred me to risk/benefits who never returned my calls. I know UberAlderBurke is head of finance committe but I don't think an Alderween is going to be fielding every city workers deferred comp. complaint. Leaving aside the WHY you need to call, just WHO do you call when you have a problem. In 401K plans, it is the employer, not the plan administrator (Nationwide RS) that has ultimate fiduciary responsiblity to the employee. 457 plans are very similar (except in Chicago it seems). This Wall of Silence intriques me. Are there such shenanigans going on that no one will even acknowledge being in charge? It is an acknowledged reality in the Mutual Fund Industry that untold millions or even billions are spent wooing (bribing)potential corporate clients to include their funds in the company's retirement plans. Of these potential clients, institutional funds (like City of Chicago) are the most prized plums. These "incentives" often take the form of paid vacation junkets, golf outings, etc. and, though infrequent, financial reward (funneled and hidden by people who move money for a living). Could we have stumbled upon the Achilles heel of our Unholy Triumvirate (City,Finance Committe/FOP)? The one filthy graft among their countless others that can be their undoing? Run, you conniving shitheels, were coming for you!
I spent one-half a my day-off writing a letter to unscrew up a billing mess with my kid's health care. We use to have really good insurance that was part of our compensation until Daley took over. Now look at it, welfare is better than what we have.

P.S. Beware of scams by doctors and medical care providers who say, "We just want to run some tests." This may be billed as routine physical exam and is not covered by your insurance. It grabs your $600.00 "Wellness Benefit" with full-boat prices and leaves you with the uncovered overage. If you have to pay out of pocket for any non-covered expenses, ask/demand a reduction. Almost all medical care providers have several price lists for the same services; a reduction for an uncovered expense can be 40%.
I feel that FOP is doing a good job under difficult and adversarial circumstances. They helped me and another officer when we were dumped from traffic. We were reinstated. They bent over backwards to help us.

The grievance was filed under Section 26.4 payment of wages:
"payment of wages provided hereinshall be due and payable to an officer no later than the 1st and 16th of each month"
When your derferral for the 1st or 16th is not creditied to your account till the 15th or 30th your contract is violated.
the city uses the excuse that "delays cause by payroll changes" allows them to delay your deferral THAT IS TRUE FOR CHANGES the FIRST TIME but when your deferral is the same for months or years there is NO DELAY
and with direct deposit the city cannot explain the delay
The G has regulations which require a specific explanation WHY an employer cannot make a payment to a reetirement account within 1-3 days
The union won't even require the City to explain why it takes so long for the deferral to hit your account
I suggest everyone who is concerned about this FILE a Grievance or at least have FALLON tell you there is a greivance already on file which would be mine

I want to deal with the decision maker direct or at least give them the chance to screw me so they will at least be accountable after the fact. We need to find out how much the city is making on OUR money while we lose out. Related issue: I know they make a ton on our "Chicago Blended Fixed Option." They pay out 4.9% and even a moron of a financial manager makes 5.5% on fixed instruments in recent times. I've heard unsubstatiated (because I haven't got a prospectus. NRS claims there is no such thing for that fund!)figure of 13 Million $$ in that fund. If the City is making 1.6% interest off OUR money while we take it in the ass...Coppers shouldn't put their money in a fund that barely keeps up with inflation erosion while the city generates (and keeps) the interest off YOUR prinicple. I just bet that is the fund they push on the Recruits when they sign up! PPOs let us know. So what do we do? Class action suit?
So, after 25 years of the Deferred Comp $ being delayed, NOW someone is going to grieve it? What part of the contract are they violating??? Offering deferred comp might be part of the contract, but the actual account and how it is administered? Please cite the contract provision, also, how do you expect to win this? If it is pointed out to the arbitrator that this has been the past practice for at least 25 years, then it looks like a loser to me. The only way to fix it is to re write the administrative policy of the deferred comp account the city has set up....

Other sources predict home prices could plunge 40% in the next 5 years. This will trap homeowners in negative equity in which they will owe more on their mortgages than the homes are worth, with the new bankruptcy laws blocking any way out.

Yes, your right, and I too was thinking the exact same thing. Back then when things were really bad, nobody carried all these high capacity automatics with 2-4 extra magazines. You have your freedom thanks to all veterans who have served and those who are serving now. I know this concept is taken for granted but veterans and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice since the birth of this country gave you your freedom and have maintained that freedom for you. Now the sad part is spoiled selfish people like you don't appreciate their sacrifices but you know what? That's ok because those of us who serve and have served will never forget the sacrifice made by some. You know what else is really sad? That you lack the intelligence to read a simple post and comprehend what is written. Instead you read something and interject your misunderstanding into the conversation. Might I suggest you take some remedial reading courses and then some history lessons to educate yourself. I comprehend the drivel you write but it is also very easy to infer what a simpleton like you is really saying. My ability to analyze and comprehend makes it easy for me to score in the top 2% as earlier stated. For instance if you were in Nam, you were very likely in your teens or twenties (a kid) in the 70's.Its also fairly obvious that you're angry that you had to go and you're jealous of these new guys who got to go to college during the same period of your life when you were stuck in the middle of a terrible war.Also fairly obvious was that you were a real man because you were in Viet Nam and came on before vests were required.God bless those parents who were able to "spoil" their kids with an education. To answer your questions.... I think there are many smart people of ALL ages on the department. Many have a degree, but you think degrees are for people who don't know shot about police work.I bring up the 2% thing as a joke because it obviously burns your balls. You feel sorry for the people who work with me? I'm not the one telling them they aren't shit because they don't have a few decades on the job. I work in a busy place so most of the old timers have gone on to greener pastures but I get along with everyone except for bitter hard asses with chips on their shoulders.Also, I have great respect for all that served this country in war and peace, even Guard and Reserves. I just have a little more respect for those who have been able to handle it with a little more class and dignity. You never used inference or deduction as a policeman, you must even be more special than I thought.
