Fox 32 News is reporting that two officers were relieved of their powers today. Unless we misheard the TV, the report further states that as many as six additional officers may be involved and a sergeant also. Fox doesn't have a link up yet. When they do, we'll post it if we aren't working or sleeping. This one is looking like it has legs. Be smart out there people.

UPDATE II: Sun Times story combines the Matthews demotion with SOS strippings and shoehorns it in with the 007th District situation where Broderick Jones is going to plead guilty to avoid 117 years in the pen. Jones' lawyer says that this appears to be a "movie that doesn't have an end yet" alluding to the fact that there are still a bunch of indicments waiting to be handed down in Englewood.

I saw the story on channel 5 news. Nobody named but more officers will be stripped of police powers soon. Well thats what the news said, they will tell you the sky is pink too...
Wow, SOS has bad offics in it? I dont believe it. I know SOS has some ass-holes there but people who commit crimes. I had heard that the waters where stirring in SOS with regard to misconduct, and the rumor that management was involved is unsettling. I have heard that the Lt. is in on it and two SWAT Sgt. I only hope it is not true. I am looking for the mass dumping from SOS to follow. This reminds of the Austin 7 the only ones who did not go to jail went and got promoted. She is a Sgt now and he is DICK. We'll I guess we can only hope that fire department fucks up soon, we need the break.
I work in SOS, and from what I hear it's been a rumor for a while. Don't want to speculate as to the "probe" but its here now. I hope that they clear their names and its just another B.S. ploy by the FEDS to appease the citizens of this fine shity-I mean city. We'll see what happens. All I know is when a 1 rock pinch is considered quality... what type of message are you sending? To "make the numbers " for the DOC ? C'mon the real taxpayers want you to improve their quality of life. Not some west side non-sense dope game. What does the LT. say about this?? In regards to the Commander Matthews incident. One K.M.A.'s man opinion.
I can guarantee you that Commander Matthews was not demoted due to his actions at the police station regarding his son's arrest. 99.9 percent of the time, when a demotion occurs as quick as it did following the incident, the reason for the demotion is how a person reacts when called on the carpet by the Superintendent.
I bet when Commander Matthews was called in to see the Superintendent, Matthews had the same condescending attitude as when he was present at the police station during the processing of his son.
As much as we would all love to believe that his demotion was a direct result in his actions towards the "little guy," I highly doubt that was the case.
I bet Matthews attempted to spin the case to Cline by saying the bad racist police beat up his son and it was all the arresting officers and desk personnel's fault for the whole incident.
Cline sat there thinking, What the fuck? The police could have shot and killed your son. And how would that look in the media. Commander's kid shot and killed by the police. Additionally Cline is thinking that the kid also has past arrests and charges of fighting with the police. Cline knows that the kids is going to continue his actions especially because the father by his actions is actually encouraging his son to continue this lifestyle.
Cline was playing the bean counter, cut the loss before it gets worse. The demotion of Matthews was a win-win for Cline but was the only thing he could have done based on what is known let unloan what was said behind the closed castle doors of the Ivory Tower?
Cline knows that the next few weeks are going to be awful for Chicago Police public relations, S.O.S. scandal, Police fighting and racial divide and some other "stuff" that will be coming out very shortly.
Cline is in no position right not to let anything ride out or let time diminish this incident.
In regards to Matthews owing money to the City for the vehicle not being impounded. Matthews probably loss about a $100,000 in future commander's pay and in exempt pension. The $1,500.00 is nothing compared to what Matthews will lose.
The way I see it is to let sleeping dogs die. It's over and let it be.
Wait till the news gets a hold of how many CR investigations have been generated involving money beefs over the past several years from this unit and a certain team. City will spin it.

The single common denominator all criminals share is that they think they are smarter than everyone else! It's what makes our job so easy. Good policemen are generally smarter than they are. The same applies to kinky cops. Whether you falsify an affidavit for search warrant, assist an outfit robbery crew, or skim money recovered during the execution of a search warrant, they think they are at the top of their game and no one else can see through their bullshit. I was too young to remember Summerdale but I clearly recall the shakedown scandals in 015 with Thanasaurus & Co. and the 018th Dist. scandal with Braasch. Along the way there was the Marquette Ten, Pacman and 015 once again, the Duece and CW. Apparently the some officers have either too short a memory for these events, or none at all. I'm up to my ass in bills raising a family and I never took a dime. I am certain I'm no different from 99.9% of the rest of of you but soon the public will start to think 99.9% of us are no different from a handful of assholes. Thanks assholes.
It's tme for everyone to band together for the good coppers in SOS. Anyone who has ever been thru this type of thing knows that the good coppers suffer also. The tension over minor "things" done in the past becomes magnified and even the good guy's imaginations run wild. Remember there is a difference between hurting the bad guys and sleeping with the enemy.
It's our job as the police to not spread unsubstantiated rumors and to stick up for the good guys that just happened to be there.

Heres my take on the subject. There are a lot of good cops in SOS, but they all heard rumors and whispers of whats alleged. Could'nt one of you taken some of these young officers on the side and given them better direction. Look we've all done stupid stuff somewhere on this job, but the senior officers we bad-mouth as dogasses sometimes knows whats best. Officers look out for each other and give advice to those who stray. PS Why are there so many young officers in these specialized units. Only looking for trouble.

Word is that the F.B.I. had subpeona the last 5 years records of prostitution arrests along with all the inventories in regards to these arrests. Allegation: Sticky fingers when counting the arrestee's cash. (John's and Whore's) Rumor is that there is a long list of beefs regarding coppers from the OCD 's prostitution unit either pocketing the money or short changing the amount inventoried.

Sorry, off topic but I need a little help. My sister just informed me that the rest of my family is going to Detroit for the Sox game on Wed. 23 Aug. Anyone know of any decent hotels in the area. They all look nice on the internet but who knows where they are located. Probably have to go outsie the city or Windsor. Trying to convince my mother that the food at the strip clubs is great.
Basically what this whole S.O.S. scandle comes down to, is a lot of the S.O.S. officers are a bunch of clout heavy "hero's" who have this bad ass, "I'm invincible" attitude. I have been of this job almost ten years and I still maintain good ethics and morals on a daily basis when doing police work. Officers unfortunately can make an honest mistake and get jammed for it. However, if someone from S.O.S. or anywhere else in this department is stealing, planting shit on people, making up complete lies in their reports, or committing other crimes, they deserve what ever they get if they get caught. Professionalism is something that just doesn't seem to exsist in this department (or at least it is not noticed by any one in the upper echelon). Now with this whole scandle coming out, the integrity of this department will take another turn for the worse. And just for the record, I'm about as right-winged conservative, pro-police as they come. But, as long as clout gets you promoted and assigned to special units, as opposed to qaulification, education, good ethics, and all the other things that get most people promted in America's work force, scandles will continue over and over again. I know people reading this are gonna be pissed by my comments, but Chicago Police Officers are sometimes are own worst enemies.
Word is "Jake the Snake" is quivering like a dying snake. He will be pulling the pin quite early to avoid prosecution along with fully cooperating with the FBI.
He is the boss who was dumped from 8 because he knocked up a female cop from that district who was engaged with a male cop that was on the snake's own tactical team.

Heard as he was being led back to the lock-up in Judge Dernbach's room (#600) a goof on trial for homicide punched the male deputy. The female deputy just stood by and did nothing.
Two detectives from 620 (Maas and Madden) were in jury room for the case, heard commition, and came out as guy was about to make a break for it. After a fight the murderer was subdued.

I didn't see that story in today's papers. Probably with all the other police stuff it was bumped. Anyway, those two guys can be a bit goofy at times, but, if you or your family needed something, or you were the victim of a crime, those two guys would be among the first I'd want to handle my stuff.
First, we do not know how long this investigation has been going on. It could have been months or years.
Second, we do not know who initiated the investigation, the city, the Feds, or the city in conjunction with the Feds.
Thirdly, we have no idea what it is about. Rumors about shaking down gyas are just that. Rumors.
I too have been around a very long time and remember most of the past scandals. Usually there is more than one type of corruption involved.
Let us all take a deep breath here and stop the speculation. Also for all the jealous wannabe POs stop being sooooo gleeful. If you wanted to go to SOS or any other unit you would be there, annnnnnnnnd maybe we would be talking about you right now.
Whether we wear a blue shirt or a white shirt we are all a member of the same team. All of these officers are innocent until proven othertherwise. I know all of this gossiping is more entertaining-but come on...they have families. There is not ONE person who can look themselves in the mirror and say they are perfect. And, you were there? You work in the Sups office and have vast experience with how it is operated? You have a pipe line into the Office maybe?
How about this; the Superintendent saw all of the reports, including the CR initiation. Remember that Deputy that was there? She does a log and a reort has to be left by the Deputy after every major incident. That report and log goes to the Superintendent every day. I do not think any Superintendent, no mattter who, whould have allowed Matthews to stay after reqading it.
So, little boy five minute wonder, take a time out, go sit in the corner, and sip your kool aid.
As to impoundment. If vehicles are SUBJECT to imundment, SUBJECT being the word thrown tossed around here, then there is smome discretion allowed here. Vehicles are subject to being towed or impounded. How many times have anyone of us allowed someone to take his vehicle that was subject to tow or impound? Yeah the resounding silence tells it all.

Federal investigation involving the Vice Unit / Prostitution is the new rumor. This investigation may have been going on for up to a year now. Heard Fed's even had their own locked up by vice acting as drunk guys with a pocket of cash. Word is the inventories aren't matching the amount the offender's actually had. If anybody hears anyhting about this, please post. A friend of mine is a Fed and let loose with a little info but not the specific details.

Because almost twenty five years ago FOP sold us out as they are today. They refused to listen to the membership and open all, and I mean all, except admin units, upf for bid. That is why so many younsters who are not the police are in these units.
FOP's constant response for all of these years has been the same. The City does not want bidding to specialized units and we agree. You should have to know some body to get into a unit. John Dineen, Bill Nolan, and Mark Donoghue have staded this at FOP mettings in front of the membership. And you know what? Many of the members actually applauded. FOP has to share the blame for some of this, and it is only going to get worse.

Don't take all this to heart. Every basket has some issues in it's weaving. CPD currently has roughly 10,000 coppers. Do you really expect us to all get along? Do you have a family? Do you all get along? We fuss and fight among ourselves, we yell, we name call, but if you are a good cop, an honest cop, you will be fine.
You might read some of the stuff posted here and think "What the ...", but you'll go to work and risk your neck for your partner, knowing that he/she would risk theirs for you.
Just remember, everyone is entitled to their opinion, you don't have to agree with it or accept it, but you have to respect the fact that we all have them.

I know all of this gossiping is more entertaining-but come on...they have families. There is not ONE person who can look themselves in the mirror and say they are perfect. Look around you today at roll call, no one is perfect. Would you turn your back on one of your own over specualtion? Over poor choices? I have made some of the best friends throughout my 13 year career, loyalty is needed more on this job. RUMOR has it that it's coming down alright. The big question is whether it's going to be a Federal or State Prosecution? Sources close to the unit say that this is a long time a coming and should have happened long time ago. IF and that's a big "IF", it's true, then fuck em'. They make it hard for all the rest of us coppers. Every time you hear about one scandal, there is another one in the making. Fucking bullshit. Someones "clout" could only take them so far. It's not going to hold you above the law even when it's the very law that you, yourself enforce. Let's not mention or slander any names until this shit is verified and/or whether there are going to be any indictments brought forth. I, however beleive that the indictments are soon going to be served.
SOS has always had a certain amount of guys that brought in great numbers but were completely out of control with CR#'s. For it's first few years in the mid to late 90's Districts routinely hid clout guys there that were hard workers but were always stepping in shit. They didn't want to jam them up. This is what you get.
As for BR, I knew him for few years before he made "merit" detective, but didn't work with him until he came to the Area. I don't know where he accumulated all these awards, because he is one of the worst detectives I've ever met. In over two years that guy didn't clear one murder where it was his case. He piggybacked on a few, but he never carried the load. The flip side of that is he was so straight that he routinely fucked up shit he could have cleared. That guy is such a dork that I could never imagine him taking one red cent. He probably reads the army field manuals to ensure that he is mounting his old lady in an orderly proficient military manner. He definitely has rage and impulse control issues. I don't know nothing about his wife or side broad. Never heard of either. Just my 2 cents. And I was a det before SOS was around, so I'm not a wannabe.

I cannot believe the trash I am reading, filled with jealously and hate. I have spent 10 minutes reading all this crap in hopes that maybe just one of you made some sense. Boy what a let down. This is BR's wife and I don't know who claims to be a "friend" of mine, however if they were any friend, they would know that he placed within 50 spots of me. He made Det. off the list - not meritorious. I am sure for anyone that is SO interested they could probably find out from the FOP. I refuse to comment on the rest of the bashing, I will say everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, it would only be wise to state facts that you know to be true, otherwise it reflects poorly on yourself (assuming you don't hide anonymously). Too bad that Lt. B, now retired, was not implicated. That man did a tremendous disservice to the department by creating an enviroment of institutional closed mindedness with regards to the tactical world.
