For some unknown reason, the previous links to the Application for Superintendent of Police have been altered slightly. This means our previous links to the Police Board website are currently dead until we change them. We would hate to think that this tiny little website makes the people who run the Police Board website nervous enough to actually go and alter web addresses to divert traffic.
Anyway, on to the second essay question:

misconduct and to build greater public trust of the Police Department?
And we answer:
- Address the misconception, perpetuated by the politicians and aided by a complicit media, that every single misstep by police officers is willful, felonious and grounds for gratuitous payoffs from the city treasury.
- Allow Seiser to show everyone what serious misconduct might really look like - and why he never allows it to occur.

I would start an invstigation of the mayor and all the alderthieves and their staff! The fish stinks from the head down and then we could seek indictments from Patrick Fitzgerald on all the thieves who have been getting away with it for years! Next I would pull the wasted manpower from details such as ed burke who has a fleet of drivers all making D-3+ Pay and more! Then evaluate the whole process!
OFF TOPIC, What is with all the hair gel police putting FOP medallions on the rear plates of their personal vehicles?
It looks really stupid and presents a negative image about the police.

Serious answer, and I submitted something like this in the '90s when I applied...
The ARDC (for Illinois lawyers) has a great system where they issue an annual report of discipline. It lists cases by name, type, punishment, etc.
For the benefit of officers, and to serve as a reminder, the CPD should publish (internally) anonymized accounts of EVERY incident which results in one or more days taken. Without given out the PO's name or pin number, just put in a report something like:
District-level, Disobeying direct order, PO refuses to follow lawful order from sergeant to..., witnessed by a district lieutenant, punishment: 3 day suspension. History: no previous similar incidents.
District-level, excessive force (non-lethal), 2 day suspension. No previous sustained excessive force infractions.
Blah blah blah.
Basically, just let people know the volume of incidents and the types of punishment that can be expected. Publicizing this internally should itself help inform officers of the kinds of things they need to beware of.
It would alos help show (or not show) that discipline is applied uniformly for similar circumstances.
Its hard to explain how useful this is to Illinois lawyers. Its basically a roadmap of the kinds of things they REALLY need to watch out for (commingling funds, conflicts of interests), and I suspect it would help a lot of POs.
So, basically, just publish a summary report every 3 months and then at the end of the year, and issue the report to all sworn personnel in some form or another.

They already do this - it's called "The Advocate," and it's an IAD publication. It comes oout either monthly or quarterly.
I agree the rest of us suffer when the juiced up officers are not disciplined. We have to start speaking up. Treat all police officers using the same standard.Sorry I just realized I'm in never never land.

I have a policy with State Farm. Cost about $90 a month for a $200,000 policy. The premium is invested, kinda like deferred comp, so at the end of I believe 25 years, I will have a nice chunk of change to supplement retirement.

Me again. How many copies do they publish, and do they try and ensure a copy is placed in front of every PO? I'm long gone and forgotten, so just sincere questions, but if they are doing their best to make sure that accurate and honest numbers are put in front of everyone, than my suggestion is moot.
To address what others have suggested, if it doesn't include the fudging for clout bunnies, maybe it should just summarize what happens for all sustained allegations in certain categories, and not just those that result in a suspension of more than one day.

I just have one question for the perfect police out there, have you ever lost a loved one and if so what would you of done to those asses that were poking phone at one of our own. If the answer is nothing then you are compoetely full of shit or you are the biggest coward ever.
Why don't we quit bitching about what other coppers have or do and start helping out once in a while, in case you don't relaize this the public hates us and probably always will.
