Good choice on the change to Typepad. It's a much more stable platform and is not nearly as "buggy" as Blogger.

Regardless of whether he ended up getting a college education, a GED is a symbol of a dysfunctional childhood and usually something that gets buried or glossed over on a resume should you actually end up doing something positive with your life because everybody knows you were probably a juvenile criminal, doper, a fuck-up or mentally challenged.
That he is even being considered is pitiful and says something about the administration of the department.

ANYONE who puts forth the effort to complete what they didn't finish in high school is worthy of a modicum of respect. Most high school drop-outs go on to accomplish very little with their lives, a fact that is well known. However, those with the fortitude to complete a GED program AND earn a college degree are clearly on the right path.
What disqualifies Starks to be the next Superindendent is his complete incompetence and demonstrable bafoonery, qualities which have nothing to to do with his GED certificate.

Plenty of people get their GEDs for many reasons or go on to run businesses without a diploma or degree and do quite well. In addition to this, some children who are homeschooled all of their lives get GEDs as an equivalent to the diploma.!!!
If there was something tragic in the man's life that required his immediate attention, then it is commendable for him to go back and finish his high school education in this manner like millions of citizens.
There are plenty of cheaters out their who are not qualified to recieve their diplomas, degrees or current patronage positions.

The big advantage to deferred comp, is the tax break. If you invest on your own you have to watch what happens every day on the market and pay the taxes during your peak earning years as you make trades.
Another bit of financial advice, live within your means.
One more thing, look into the Flexible Spending Account for medical expenses when you pick your medical November. It's a good tax break if used correctly.

City officials have agreed to pay $27,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by a West Side man who said police shot and killed his dog last year while chasing a suspect.
Calvin Hale alleged that a police officer ran into his yard in the 5200 block of West Race Avenue and stumbled on his 10-year-old Akita, Lady.
The officer shot the dog and continued the chase, Hale said in a lawsuit filed in February in Cook County Circuit Court.
"I think Lady, at the end of the day, was worth more than $27,000 to him, but there are practical benefits to resolving the litigation," Hale's attorney, Amy Breyer, said Friday.
City officials acknowledged the settlement, but declined to comment further on Friday. They admit no wrongdoing in the settlement, which was reached Wednesday.
The incident occurred at about 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 26, 2006. Hale said his dog had no history of biting or bad behavior.
Breyer said she hoped the settlement would put the city and others on notice that "you can't do what happened here without there being any repercussions."
Breyer is one of a small number of lawyers who specialize in animal-related cases and sometimes seek to expand the reach of animal law.
Lawsuits over injuries to animals have begun to be taken more seriously, Breyer said.

The guy driving was tugging on car doors at 107 and Western. A beat car sees him and does a quickie U-turn, calls it in, and the guy immediately hopped in his car parked in front of the car he was tugging on and takes off, nearly wiping out the squad car and a passing ambulance crew with lights and siren on. Lost in traffic around 95 and western......picked up in 008 by a car there, he got away there too at about 67th and Pulaski. Guy eventually crashed into a car at 55th and California and fled on foot, got away, leaving blood trail behind for 3 blocks, that ended in the middle of the street.....

I must have implied that I don’t give D.S. any credit. That’s not the case. I don’t look down on anyone who tries to correct their mistakes. I don’t look down on anyone for being poor, or for being born into circumstances that may be fucked up. But you know what? While I respect him for doing something with his life, I don’t think he deserves to be Top Cop. He has a story and eventually it’s going to come out. He lies about the FBI losing his paperwork? Are you serious. That’s all I need to know right there. It mocks any other more qualified candidate who did things the right way, the whole way. Just exactly what are you saying here? Should I feel sorry for Dana? Should HE be flipping burgers? Is he the exception to the rule? The guy down the street from me has a very successful construction company. He had to go into business for himself because he’s a convicted felon. He has a GED.
Selling hamburgers and protecting the law-abiding public are two different things. The common factor (whether private corp, public agency, government, etc.) is that the top professional in any organization should be as advanced and/or better (more educated, more experienced and able to be held to a higher standard) than everyone he supervises, period. EVEN if it’s all for show. Otherwise, society as we know it, is doomed.
Let me tell you a secret, you make excuses for someone, you give someone a break, they usually end up fucking you. Look at Karen.
And BTW, knowledge of people, the street and communication skills, while helpful, is what is called a minimum requirement, ok.

3. My grandparents were dirt poor but nobody quit school to help them. They knew the only way to go was up and education was the way to get there. I have a GED so that means I am a piece of shit? Sorry to burst your stereotype bubble but a GED is not a sign of dysfunction, only poor judgement. I had to drop out of school to work upon my dad's death so we wouldn't starve. And believe it or not I have a degree and before I had this pitiful job I was a manager for a worldwide corporation. I would bet that I've had more responsibility, more experience, more common sense than you will ever have. You criticize someone with a GED while uttering one of the most denigrating things I have ever heard.

Just for the record, not rich, didn't go to private school, just knuckled down and kept moving forward. Paid my own way. Worked AND went to school. Can you imagine? It's not that hard to do. Builds character in the meantime.

NONE OF THE BOSSES COULD PASS A LEGIT DICK'S TEST...We, the street dicks, know the street and we know what happened on the street during an "event"....and the real street detectives WHO WORK THE STREET KNOW HOW TO WRITE PAPER SO THE SLOB BOSSES WILL SMILE AND SAY GOOD JOB !!!!! THE BOSSES STILL KNOW THE STREET DICK HOLDS THE SECRETS.....AND CAN DO NOTHING ABOUT IT...
