Woman Blasts Burglar
A woman today shot and killed a man who Chicago police said was breaking into her South Chicago neighborhood home on the city's Southeast Side.
Police said the victim heard glass breaking in her basement on the 8200 block of South Kingston Avenue at about 10 a.m.
After grabbing her handgun, the woman confronted two intruders, but struck only one when she opened fire, police spokeswoman Officer Anne Dwyer said. The second man fled.
The wounded intruder, identified by the Cook County medical examiner's office as Vincent Fleming, 20, of the 300 block of West 42nd Street, was pronounced dead a short time later at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

what say you, snuffy?
That last line of the paragraph should have read "The second man fled BECAUSE HE DIDN'T WANT HIS ASS CAPPED, TOO."
"As of this posting, neither newspaper has the story upon the main page. We wonder why that is."
Easy. They're too busy covering the manipulation of our mayoral race.
You know, there is no other local news. None. It's all about where the candidates are shaking hands, blowing kisses, using kleenex and clearing their throats today.
On the bright side; no coverage means no pressure to crucify her in the media. I count that as a win.
Good for her. Damm only if she got the other one also.
Good job. One less piece of shit in the city.
refuse to be a victim!!
Good for her! Bye bye shitbird!
OT, ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A manhunt was under way Tuesday for the person who shot and killed a St. Petersburg police officer — the third officer to be gunned down in the line of duty in less than a month.
Police said the shooting happened after two officers were called to a neighborhood just south of Tropicana Field — where the Tampa Bay Rays play baseball — around 10:30 p.m. Monday to investigate a report of a suspicious person who may have been a prowler.
Officer David Crawford spotted the suspect and got out of his vehicle to approach him. At 10:37 p.m., another officer, Donald J. Ziglar, reported an exchange of gunfire and told dispatchers an officer was down.
Ziglar found Crawford lying on the pavement near his cruiser, police said. He had been shot multiple times at close range.
"Blood, it was everywhere," said Michael Poncedeleon, a resident who saw the shooting and spoke to TV station Bay News 9.
"Everybody was so emotional, all the cops were screaming," he said.
Crawford, a 25-year-veteran, was pronounced dead at Bayfront Medical Center. He was 46.
By Tuesday morning, SWAT teams, a helicopter and canines were being used in the search for the suspect. Authorities said there was no evidence that the suspect was injured during the exchange of gunfire and an intense manhunt was ongoing in the Gulf Coast city.
Pinellas County Schools announced that a middle school and two elementary schools near the scene would be closed Tuesday and students were being notified to attend nearby schools.
The Tampa Bay area has had six officers shot to death in the line of duty in the last two years.
Monday's shooting happened about four miles from where two officers were gunned down in January. Officers Jeffrey A. Yaslowitz and Thomas Baitinger were killed as they helped serve a warrant on a man with a long criminal history.
"This city has been through hell," Mayor Bill Foster said during an early morning news conference Tuesday. "Our hearts are broken."
Officers gathered at Bayfront Medical Center and saluted as a white van carried Crawford's body out of the hospital.
"It hurts," Police Chief Chuck Harmon said at the news conference outside the hospital early Tuesday. "It stings. This killer has taken someone very precious to us, a member of our family."
Harmon said he could see the look of shock on the faces of his officers.
"As I saw their faces tonight it was ... not again," he said.
Now Rahm says he will put 1000 more cops on the street by putting desk officers out and replacing them with cadets and get rid of our current medical policy. What about the bid spots in the contract? Are you just going to get rid of that as well? Same as the medical. VOTE CHICO PLEASE
I LOVE TO HEAR THESE STORIES
and why is it not newsworthy?
Get out and vote even thou the news has brainwashed all the people that don't know how to think for themselves to vote for Rhamn????
Get out and vote...don't want to hear complaining later!
did granny have to piss and blow after killing the home invader--- hopefully granny wasn't on a bender--- those brandy manhattans can get your head spinning fast....
No doubt she will eventually be charged with violation of the city's handgun licensing law and then be sued for killing the former honor student who is waiting to get into medical school.
Did she have her city weapon permit?
Long term: d'ya spose this will lead us to a lower crime rate?
Just maybe?
I send her my most hardy Congratulations on a job well done.
Shanks & da rev's will be pissed. he was just about ready to turn his life around & enter grammar school.
Rumor in da hood is dat he wanted to be an Astronaut.
The leftists run the newspapers here and there are no good gun stories in their warped minds.
EB is the focus of a FOX news interview on Chicago's top African American cop. It's funny they didn't bother to fact check this guys embarassing background. He has no integrity. His lies, lack of judgement and scandals make him a liability to the dept. instead of an asset. They could have picked any number of local African Americans that are far more deserving, respectible, and intelligent than this fool.
OT It does not matter who wins the mayor spot today. It's the first step to getting rid of Da Mayo. Hopefully the new aldermen turn Chicago back into a republic democratic city. Da King Mayo will be closer to getting his green ass out off the throne. He has turned Chicago into a horrible train wreck that will last for years. Four years from now don't fall for the trick that a Daley (Nora) needs to be mayor to improve Chicago once again. What an embarrassment!!!!
(OT) Prayers for the family 3rd police officer killed in Florida, the fucking animals are running wild!

I just puked when I saw Ernie Brown with Dawn Hasbrouck on Fox.
Good for you Lady! It's good you are not being charged. The Hale DeMar law is valid in the entire state, even Dailey's Chicago.
I nominate her for the " Crime Reduction Award w/ V for Valor Device "
She confronted 2 offenders & instead of of retreating, are you reading this J-fled, she stood her ground & dumped 1 bad guy.
I thank you Madam for making this city a little bit safer, you are an example to be followed.
I for one would be glad to replace any expended rounds.
Hey Shortshanks! This is gun control, sight picture, steady breath, and squeeze the trigger ...now go and get back under your rock.
Good shooting ma'am. Too bad you didn't get both of them. I'll bet the second one is still running.
I'd like to be like her if my place ever gets broken into.
Bravo. One down, several thousand to go.
Look out. The Area 4 Gun team is coming for her to arrest her for failure to register a handgun...
I tip my hat to the lady. It has come to be time that the good citizens of the Second City protect themselves as ShortyShanks will not allow us to defend ourselves. If we had the correct amount of CPD officers on the street we would be safer, but the police can not be everywhere all the time, so nice shot and I am sorry you have to live with this shit.
We are all very proud of you, you are now a combat vet. You did the right thing. God bless you and the CPD and our brothers and sister overseas.
P.S. F uck Rahm! If he wins we are out of here.Chico, you better shape up!
I would love to buy you diner maam!

Update: FBI Offers $50,000 Reward for Gunman Who Killed Veteran St. Pete Cop
This is the third fatal shooting of a St. Petersburg police officer in less than a month.

Hoodrat with a tire iron. He could have easily closed the gap and caved her skull in, say in about 5-7seconds, maybe less. Same risk when the offender has a knife. They
can and will close the gap and use that weapon without any hesitation...act accordingly, as this woman rightly did.
Because everyone fears the gun in the right hands?....
great job!! the nra should give her an award.
Had the pleasure of locking the man up in 009 several times, real piece of shit and real happy ending here!
Why is there an Officer Police Spokesperson? A civilian, retired P.O. or disabled PO should have the job, and that Officer should be out working the streets in a beat car, protecting the citizens.
by all accounts, the lady is a hero...and folks like Shortshanks and Phleger fight concealed carry...when two thugs are coming at a person with tire irons and crowbars....will Shortshanks or Phleger ride to the rescue?
Flemming's family will sue the city. A payday is comming.
*** CITATION ***
On the date & time in question, the awardee , in the darkness of night, alone, single - handed, and by herself, encountered two felons in her home.
With the option of retreating open, the awardee instead elected to engage the enemy, and by her courageous actions, was able to neutralize 1, causing the other to flee.
With no authority , other than that of a fellow Citizen of this still great Republic, this Citation is awarded to you.
Now this is justice!
I hope to hear more of this! The jails are full of assholes and expensive anyway!
Da Pelon
I can't wait for a few to come through my window. I've been waiting years to shoot some asshole man right back out the window he came in.
efficient justice is the best justice
This woman deserves an award for the numerous crimes that will be prevented and the many taxpayer dollars in court costs and incarceration fees that wil be saved as a result of this criminal's career being cut short.
Both papers have committed early on that they both work for Rahm.
Nice!!!!!!!!!!!
Bet you he shows up as had voted prior or just after his death, the cook county way.
But Wait, I Remember Our Good Mayor Saying "If Anyone Thinks, They Can Solve Any Thing, With A Gun, They Are Wrong"
I Remember Our Mayor Fighting Tooth And Nail Not To Allow Retired Chicago Police Officers To Have Concealed Carry Permits. He Said It Would Cause All Sorts Of Problems.
I Wonder If The Mayor Will Keep Armed Police Protection, When He Leaves Office ?
Another good day in The City That Works. God Bless Her!

"It's a big change in Chicago," said Margaret O'Hara, who cast her vote for Emanuel in a high-rise residential building near Lake Shore Drive. "It's important that the next mayor understand the importance of keeping the Magnificent Mile nice, with art and flowers."
This is what is wrong with Chicago with have idiots like this voting. I like Rahm because he promised more flowers that we cant afford on my block. What a f-ing moron. You can put up as many nice barriers and flowers pots but if the people have no money to spend and the city keeps taxing and raising rates for everything then guess what it doesn't matter you idiot.
I know why it didn't make the news. It's because she used a gun. It goes against the media's disdain for the 2nd amendment.

you might want to rephrase this.
Rumor in da hood is dat he wanted to be an Astronaut.
2/22/2011 09:35:00 AM
and now he's just a naut.
....the former honor student who is waiting to get into medical school.

as a dissection specimen.
Family will sue the city since cpd didn't get her gun before the break in....... Did cpd predictors get this one too?
OT --
Yo! Ward-heelers! Polls are closed!
Come back here and take those God-damned signs down -- every one of them.
Lazy a**holes. They stand next to the signs all day bothering people -- really liberal interpretation of "100 feet" sometimes -- and then pile into their new SUVs and take off for the tavern at 7:01, leaving their garish mess behind.
You wonder why the pipes explode and the stairs come off and the fieldhouse is never open...
It's gratitude.
Gotta be.
"No doubt she will eventually be charged with violation of the city's handgun licensing law and then be sued for killing the former honor student who is waiting to get into medical school."

That's what a "jury of his peers" -- several of who had been robbed themselves --did to Bernard Goetz. They cleared him of murder and all the serious charges, then hanged him for the lousy gun.
The assailants who survived all have been arrested multiple times again for rape, etc.
This great woman saved the neighborhood from a crime spree and should be given a community award for helping keep crime down. God bless this awesome woman. I would hope more people would follow this nice ladies lead when criminals come.
"No doubt she will eventually be charged with violation of the city's handgun licensing law and then be sued for killing the former honor student who is waiting to get into medical school."
If she had a FOID she can't be charged with violating Chicago's ordinance. As long as the shooting is justified she is immune from civil action. One of the few laws our state actually got right.
Old lawyer here. Shoot. To. Kill. Isn't that the order given by mumble's father way back when? I would not hesitate to do what that brave woman did, and neither should anyone else when they are threatened in their abode. My question is, confronted with such a situation, what to use? The 38, 357, 45, or the Ruger Mini-14? All within easy grasp!
Maybe she can teach Jody how to stand his ground. Naaaaaaaaaah.
"I can't wait for a few to come through my window. I've been waiting years to shoot some asshole man right back out the window he came in."

What happens, happens -- but those of us with a nickel's worth of sense pray that it will not happen.
You need to set the gun aside and come out of that room once in a while.
Scourge of the underworld?
Sure. Who's going to go arrest her?

12 gauge pump, 00 buckshot.
The crystal ball and pod-cams have failed us again today with a River North officer being shot in the back during an arrest.
Dear My Rahm
Please pull the Praetorian guards off of the useless alderman details and put them on the streets where they belong.
The taxpayers can not afford this. The officers families can not afford this.

That's NY, this is Illinois, we have a law to protect her.
For those interested, here is the "Hale Demar" law...(It does not negate having a FOID card.
(720 ILCS 5/24‑10)
Sec. 24‑10. Municipal ordinance regulating firearms; affirmative defense to a violation. It is an affirmative defense to a violation of a municipal ordinance that prohibits, regulates, or restricts the private ownership of firearms if the individual who is charged with the violation used the firearm in an act of self‑defense or defense of another as defined in Sections 7‑1 and 7‑2 of this Code when on his or her land or in his or her abode or fixed place of business.

The medical is in the contract....gotta wait for negotiations.
You can thank the abusers for any changes in the medical.
