Dust Off That Helmet

The Bulls manhandled Miami last night, winning by 21 points.

The Finals are looking like a distinct possibility.

And we can only cringe at the imagined aftermath.

UPDATE: Whoops - drunk blogging isn't pretty.

Having been there for 3 of the Bulls "celebrations", anyone hoping for another Bulls championship is out of their fucking mind. Anyone that was working even 1 of those nights will tell you that they hope that the Bulls NEVER win another title as long as they are on this job. The savages don't know how to act on a cold, rainy Tuesday night, let alone on a night when they think its okay to destroy the city over a basketball game. Picture New years eve, the old July 3rd and Bud Billiken all wrapped into one day...and multiply that times 10. The night the Blackhawks won was amatuer night compared to the Bulls fans going nuts. Picture the corner of Addison and Clark the night the Hawks won and imagine whole neighborhoods like that, not just 1 street corner. Be careful what you wish for kids!

For those of you who forgot or weren't here for the Bulls riots heres a few tips to make the event enjoyable and memorable.
Extra O/C, as much as you can carry(when the cans empty take it with you, finger prints-there will be one big C.R # just like election night)
Stay with your group, the buddy system. no running off on any crusades.
Keep the helmet on,its your head but peel a number off after whatever mass parking lot roll call you attend. Just in case Write your blood type on some duct tape and put at least one on your boot and back of helmet, it realy freaks the younger people out and looks real cool.
Cameras, nuff said.
They're going to loot then burn so when the liquor store is going up you gotta ask yourself, did I realy need that on my beat anyway ?
Any arrests made that night will most likely be dismissed even more so than usual unless your the one in trouble so don't make them the fun is on the street.
Don't hit the medical people remember cowards.
Answer in like: They throw rocks and bottles, you give back batons and O/C.
Just remember, have fun, settle a few scores, break some tail lights remind dude what can happen when the leash is off.
Good luck everyone !!! :)

I was there for the last 3 riots , I mean "Bulls Celebrations" when I was working in the 011th dist. I can't even imagine with the lack of manpower, and the way the dept. has gone completely hands-off how the ending will turn out. It could be days of civil chaos, with many people hurt and destroyed properties. I think many officers will be more occupied defending themselves rather than clearing streets, and stopping looting and arson.

Just think the geniuses that squandered and stole multiple millions of dollars are either gone or in other positions. If the Bulls win you will see 2/3 of the city in chaos. Since 9/11 the Dept and City Fathers have failed to maintain manpower #'s, training and functioning equipment. The Championship will come at the end of Jun(height of experienced officers furloughs) and rely on incredibly shaky bosses, clueless "Gen Y's " ...aka Hairgels, and not enough veh's, or heavy weapons. The blame game should be interesting, I feel sorry for our incoming Supt. This is the true legacy of Weis,Daley, Huberman etc.

I remember the Rush st. area and west on Archer in 008 as trouble beside 007, 010, 011. I do not envy the people who have to work the night of the title clincher. The missles and bullets will by flying with no one in the department with historical knowledge on how to manage this. It might pay to bring back a retired chief to consult.

Who gives a flying fuck? Let the savages loot, pillage, plunder, burn down or otherwise destroy the zoos they occupy. As long as no police are hurt in the process and it doesn't directly involve me, my family, friends, neighbors or co-workers, I see NOTHING. Been there, done that for the first 4 riots in the 90s.

Just be sure to keep them contained so they don't even think about spilling-over into the "Homeland" areas WE occupy.

That's right, hooray for me and fuck the rest of this city that bends over backwards to cater to these miscreants while we're made out to be the assholes.

Fund my pension, give me a decent contract without having to wait 3 years for it, back the police over the cries of convicted felons, stop pandering to the the phony men of the cloth and quit pulling coppers from my neighborhood to babysit animals that will never change, regardless of the number of police you saturate their neighborhoods with, and I MIGHT just start to give a rat's ass about the general public of this city.

Otherwise, you know where it hangs.

Don’t be such a “Hero”. Do you think any of the bosses will stick their necks out when you get caught lumpin up someone on camera? Under the bus you go! Anyone of them going to pay your mortgage when you get fired? Don’t worry, one of them will be trying to look after your wife while you’re on your way to the joint.

Ask yourself this serious question: Is it really worth it? Is being out there kicking ass and taking names for the corner of 119th and Michigan, 4200 w. Grand, 55th and May, 87th and Escanaba, anywhere on Grenshaw really fucking worth it?

That store owner at the corner of 103 and Wentworth, Division and Ridgeway, North and Central that was warning the gang-bangers selling dope that you were coming, letting them run out the back door, is going to be the first to ask you for help that day while that same gangbanger loots and pillages his store.

Now I want to hear the line “What about the Citizens…” Those same citizens can give a flying fuck less about what happens to YOU. Ask Cozzi or Sgt Howard how many “Citizens” are stepping up for them. I’ll give you a hint; its less than the number one.

Don’t get me wrong, I was here for the last 3 Bulls “Celebrations”. I kicked ass and took names, I had more fun than legally allowed those nights. I also remember what lil dick Daley said in the sun-times. “If they don’t like it, they can quit.” When asked why he justified a 2.2% pay raise for the Police and Fire Departments. I know he’s gone, but do you think Rahm is any different? At least back then we had BOSSES! Bosses that had your back! Find me one of them that’s half the boss Eddie King was… I dare you… I double dog dare you.

I remember the previous Bulls "celebrations". It will be a lot different this time. Don't know if it will be as wild, But the free-swinging days are over. EVERYONE has a video camera, especially on their cell-phones. Any police misbehaviour will be posted on U-Tube with an hour.

No one knows how the savage will react. But the scary thing now is the not only the greatly reduced man-power, but the fact that all the old-time bosses, who, while they were political hacks, did have some experience, are all gone.

Looks like I picked the right time to retire.....

Just a little background.
I was there in '92, got shot at on LSD while finishing a traffic crash case report.
I was there in '93, got shot at on the corner of 35th and King. Missed me and hit a 13 year old kid.
I was there in '96, got shot at on 49th and Ashland. We hosed every jagballs in the street.
Ditto for '97 and '98.
To the following posters:

"Lifer in 025 !"
You hit the nail on the head. It WILL be bad, the most important thing is your safey and that of your fellow officers and the innocent civilians.

"nah, not gonna happen. even by some miracle if the bulls do pull it out and win this series or the finals the city will not riot."
You are an asshat hairgel who doesn't know shit. I recommend that the night they win, you find yourself a nice qiuet place to sit and suck your thumb.

"Don’t get me wrong, I was here for the last 3 Bulls “Celebrations”. I kicked ass and took names"
The last three were mere shadows of the first two. Multiple it by 10 and that was it was like in '92 and '93. You have some experience, emphasis the good ideas and throw out the bad ones from back then. The new guys will look to you for leadership, don't blow it and get someone killed.

Whatever the outcome, remember to watch your six, and stay safe.
