Hop Off the Bandwagon

  • In the locker room before Game 4, Tom Thibodeau implored his Bulls team to shake off all mistakes and frustration and move on to the next play. He demanded they show fight from the start to avoid a debilitating hole in the Eastern Conference final.

They answered that demand. And they wound up with nothing but a debilitating series deficit to show for it.

The Bulls battled through four quarters but swooned in overtime, succumbing to the Heat in a 101-93 defeat that sent them spiraling to a 3-1 hole in the Eastern Conference finals, with an elimination game awaiting them in Game 5 at the United Center on Thursday night.
We saw that the Department was already in the process of restricting Time Due the week of 12 June in case of a Finals appearance by the Bulls. Rumors of furlough cancellations were also in evidence. We imagine a lot of sighs of relief are coming out of the fifth floors at HQ and City Hall tonight.

This is great news! The Bulls will lose to the Heat, thank God! This will save millions of dollars in taxpayer money, millions in property damage and insurance claims and many lives. We dodged a huge bullet and maybe litterally. Sorry shit bags, no rioting this year.

After six championships, rocks and bottles thrown at me and my partner, crazy yuppies, crazy people in general, I'll be glad to see the Bulls blow it.

Yes, the pretenders can rest easy; their incompetence won't be discovered until we have a terror attack.

Rose proved he's not ready to take control and carry the team through the tough moments. He's got a ways to go. Miami still sucks but so does that GD.

O.T. sort of... Maybe now they will open the carbine training to beat officers who have purchased their own m4's and are just sitting collecting dust. Officers who will be deploying them every day.

Instead of training 30 guys from the same unit to use the five rifles they have. Having district personal submit training request after training request, just to be denied saying the class was full by the chosen.

They could have closed that game out a couple of times in the last minute or so.

They choked, plain and simple. Derrick Rose never looks good throwing up desperation shots. He should have been driving to the basket, looking for a foul.

Invading and vandalizing power plants and dangling from bridges, blocking traffic on navigable waterways doesn't count.

We are helpless against helmeted attackers with backpack spray tanks, even if they're in plain sight wearing bright red suits and waving banners, documenting their crimes on the Internet.

"Eight Greenpeace activists have stopped a coal barge in the river from the Pulaski Bridge.

"Rappelling off the bridge, they displayed a banner that said “We can stop coal” and “Nosotros podemos parar el carbόn.”

"Dangling above the water, the presence of the activists prevented the coal barge from passing."

I know a very little bit about what a towboat pilot goes through; navigating tight quarters in waterways, threading a tow under bridges, etc. takes tremendous knowledge of the waterway and great planning and foresight. The actual usable channel, as seen on the charts, is far narrower than it appears to the eye -- the river is very shallow.

Every bend and maneuver must be thought out and "lined up" far ahead of time, using landmarks and navigation aids and the latest Notices to Mariners -- conditions change, there can be obstructions this week that weren't there last week, construction going on or something, not to mention wind, weather, currents, lighting, and other traffic.

You don't just "stop" a tow weighing thousands of tons; it has tremendous momentum.

If you have ever seen the water churned up behind a diesel towboat shoving a loaded barge in the Chicago River, you understand that you are seeing a real battle of WEIGHT versus HORSEPOWER -- with only feet to spare on each side.

These grandstanding, self-righteous idiots could have caused a disaster; the tow could have struck a bridge abutment, or struck another barge carrying God knows what; an oil barge blew up and burned down by Forest View a few years back.

Barge Fire, Spill Closes Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal

CHICAGO, Illinois, January 24, 2005 (ENS) -

"The Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal remains closed to marine traffic and cleanup crews are removing oil from the canal as quickly as the bitter, freezing weather will permit, after an explosion onboard a tank barge on Wednesday night closed the canal. One crewman is missing and presumed dead in the explosion.

"The tank barge that exploded was carrying some 588 thousand gallons of clarified slurry oil, according to the U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Office Chicago. This cargo is a byproduct of the oil refining process and is used to make fuel oils.

"The oil was loaded onto EMC423 barge at the Exxon Mobile Plant in Joilet, Illinois, and was destined for the Ameropan Oil Corporation facility in Cicero, Ilinois...

"The Coast Guard port captain has closed the Chicago Sanitary and Ship canal between South Harlem Avenue Bridge and the South Pulaski Road Bridge to all vessel traffic..."

What the hell does qualify as an "attack?"

I don't know what else to say.
