Hypocrite?

  • Mayor Rahm Emanuel Wednesday told CBS that he would send his three children to the University of Chicago Lab School in Hyde Park and not to a Chicago Public School.

It's the same private school that President Barack Obama's children attended when he was an Illinois Senator.

For being such advocates of the CPS though, we can only be amazed that they aren't good enough for the children of politicos.

Discuss.

I hope Shields is reading this. We have to live here, send our kids to school here, without the benefit a mayors salary. This was a personal decision, because his kids are beyond politics. Isn't the same true for our kids ? This is Daley in a new wrapper. Do as I say, not as I do ...

I don't have a problem with 9.5 fingers keeping his kids out of Chicago's public schools; I sent my two to private parochial schools as well. What I don't like is the Mayor becoming a complete chickenshit and walking out of an interview when asked about it. For somebody with a rep for being in-your-face blunt, Rahm made a complete pussy move during that interview. It's not they asked him if he'd every been unfaithful to his wife, or anything like that. Daley never sent his kids to public schools, and I think most people, if they could afford it, would opt for a private education for their kids here.

Yes he can choose to send his kids to whatever school he wants. But why do the dems want to deny that choice to so many people?

So it looks like a private school is a better choice than the CPS, not rocket science there.

I am sure his kids could get into the magnet schools, so once again, the best of the CPS is lacking. The Lab school is not a religious school, so he cannot use that as a reason.

Face it, most public schools in Chicago are terrible.

We can debate is it the parents, the teachers, the admin, the students, etc.?

But why to the dems want to force a public school system, when they so often opt out?

So the city will drive his kids from the North Side down to Hyde Park every school day because CPS is no good for the political class.

I thought Arnie Duncan left Chicago and CPS to go to Washington with the messiah ObaMAO and was doing a great job improving education for the country just like he did for Chicago.

Hmm. Is it possible that Rahm doesn't want diversity for his kids? He doesn't want his kids to benefit from the world class education system that we dump MILLIONS of tax dollars into? I don't understand.

I thought Daley was Mr. Education and fixed the schools. Luberman was put in there to straighten things up before Arnie. What could be wrong? Rahm just has to keep up the same with his Haitian import and everything should be good for his kids, right?

One of the few times Richie backed on of his minions in a controversy is when a CPS executive said she was sending her kids to a private school because Chicago Public Schools weren't good enough for them.

There was a media storm and Richie on TV said it was her business and what did they want from her Blood? Then in a stuttering vampire voice goes, "Bla-ha-ha-ha!"

I screamed at the TV, ask the question you idiot! "Mr. Mayor, where do you send your kids?"

At least Shorty was good for a laugh once in a while, when wasn't doing some serious theft or harm.

Rahm however hasn't done one good thing yet; at last not for us and everyone else who works for a living in this town.

I heard that there is an unwritten policy that CPS teachers and staff have first chance at any magnet, charter other cherry picking program in the system.

I don't have a problem with that as long as you are going to cherry pick the best and leave the rest. The fact that their own kids are there makes them want to succeed.

But, why not include us in that benefit pool. It would be a good perk to the job. I might consider a premium Chicago Public if the circumstances were right.

And think about it--if you were a young, dynamic teacher, would you want to work in the shithole CPS? Or would you want to work in a better climate where you might have to visit the filthy ghetto rats because their parents should have never been allowed to have a kid, let alone 10!

Rahm (Chicago's first Republican mayor) is going to have to pay Lab School $23K a year for each of his children.

http://www.ucls.uchicago.edu/admission/tuition/index.aspx

Rahm is a part of the North Shore elite. He has no idea how common folks have lived and worked in Chicago. He is a "one term" mayor who is looking at the US Senate and/or presidential run in 2016.

He is an arrogant prick and bully. If you haven't seen the interview with Mary Ann Ahern, watch how he almost has a melt down.

http://www.nbcchicago.com/blogs/ward-room/When-Rahms-Temper-Made-a-Comeback-125919838.html#ixzz1SkOBq9xq

What irked me was Rahm's saying he was sending them to the Lab School because of security reasons. At least Obama, when asked why he wasn't sending his kids to the Washington D.C. Public School system, said it was because (at this time) the D.C. schools were substandard.

Everyone has the right and you have the right to disagree. That is the wonder of our society. Tiny Dancer 9.5 has the right to give his children a private education, but, as he is the head of our public school system, it just looks BAD.

I believe tiny dancer has the right to send his kids anywhere he wants but I don't buy his answer to reporters inquiring about his decision to do so--- " it's a personal decision " and then he ducks out of the interview--- so next year when we negotiate a new contract and he wants concessions we just say no thank you, it's a personal decision---- you see mr. scrooge, I want to send my kids to the best schools too, and I can't afford to do so on a cop's salary--- so whatever benefits we currently have we will fight to keep and we will also fight for more as the cost of living in this shit town has gone up at an alarming rate--- I'm not a millionaire like you so I will fight for my family and our future and you can also stop lying to the public about greedy city workers being the reason that the city is broke--- we are broke because you and your predecessor failed to do YOUR job, don't blame it on us.....

I don't think it makes any sense to say he should send his kids to CPS because he is the mayor. He hires the chief manager of the school system. What has that to do with where you send your kids to school? His job is to make the school system better. His kids could be in CPS forever and that won't have anything to do with his actual performance as a mayor. I'm sure there are health nuts that work for McDonald's. It's a successful corporation but you don't have to be fat and unhealthy (from eating their food daily) to work there.

I Do and they are doing great. In the gifted program and the local school. We are blessed, and very involved in all their programs. CPS has beaten out plenty of Top Notch suburban schools. Each year, Lab asks alumni and parents to make a gift. Unrestricted gifts to the annual fund provide the schools with the most flexibility in meeting immediate operating expenses and sustaining critical programs. A big sore point with me -- and you're a teacher -- why should teachers, who have the kids 6-7 hours a day at most, be the ones expected to provide things the kids should be getting at home? I've got gifted kids. They get bored in school even though our local school is an excellent one. (And they were bored when they were in a magnet school, too. They were actually LESS challenged in the magnet school than they are now.) But the private schools in our area aren't worth the $5-7K they charge, so why pay it? So we supplement and enrich their learning at home. ***Not everything is the job of the teachers.***

I'm more interested in his reasoning. Why exactly are the public schools unable to educate "your" children? I send my kid to private school and private summer camp because I don't want my child to be lost in a class room of 30+. Plus they teach to the lowest common denominator. They bring in kids to Kindergarten that have had no Pre-K development such as letters, numbers, colors, shapes and simple 2-3 letter words. These particular kids are already 5 years behind at that point.
Yes we have some great gifted and classical primary schools and a few high schools are great as well, but they can be hard to get into. Plus they cram the testing down the throats of your children. Schools such as Lab enrich your child in a extremely diverse curriculum that is simply not taught at CPS, they teach kids to be thinkers and not test takers. If your child shows an interest or skill in a certain area they encourage this growth. You toe-the-line at CPS, they lack this educatonal freedom. I agree that it's our responsibility as parents to supplement and be involved in what our children are learning at school but CPS and the Mayor fail to convince me that it would be a wise choice to enroll.

Rahm has the right to school his kids wherever he wants. The problem is that Rahm and BO and other democrats fight to the death a voucher system that would let other taxpaying parents make that same choice.

A voucher system will get many of those NON-TAXPAYER's kids into the system; and just think of all the "New Americans" we will have to support in those private schools.

I know a lot of people who say the same thing about Rahm and Quinn and Berry O. NEVER AGAIN!

Now get ten of your friends and neighbors to say the same thing, and have them get their friends and families and so on. Remember we are going to have all those "New Americans" who will want all the free stuff will have to provive for them and they will vote Democtat.

Rahm just wants the best Socialist/Marxist education for his children. They can't get that in the Public Schools.

Anyone ever think the pols send their kids to private schools so you people cannot say you are paying for their salary and their children's education?

I'm a CPS teacher who sends my 3 kids to catholic schools. Eats up about 2/3 of my salary. And thankful that they're getting a decent education there, as I don't have the research or car-pool time to devote to a selective enrollment path. Of course Rahm should go private for his kids, as should any parent with the means and with the inability to access selective enrollment schools. CPS is so fundamentally flawed ... And not necessarily because of the innate abilities of the students, but because of the bureaucrats unwillingness and inability to address the root cause of student underachievement: the home.

Rahm will have to start using his 501c3 so he deosn't have to pay any property taxes and can pay for the lab school. Watch for his home to disappear from the cook county assessors web site
