Hey. Look under the tree. A little further back. See the present that, even though wrapped, can be identifed through the yuletide paper as our next contract? A quite generous contract at that, complete with a 4% raise per year effective 01 July 2012. Now go ahead and open it. Boooooooo. It's really just a big "Fuck You!" from Rahm.

Now go write some parkers for the captain.

You are either a troll, a boss, or a citizen or some newbie who thinks he/she is invincible.

Let me just say, good for you. If you feel that way then go out there and do the job you signed up for. Don't even think about all those years ahead of you; all those people that will call for your help but will end up screaming at you because you don't see things their way and you end up with yet another CR#.

Don't think about what you will put your body through, chasing some young mutt down an alley. And if you are lucky enough to catch him, I'm sure you have kept yourself in reasonable good shape because he ain't going to go quietly. Just make sure you don't bruise him too much. Oops, another CR to answer.

I hope you still feel this way after 20 years on the street. I really hope that you are not one of these super cops who managed to snag an inside spot early on,thinking they no more out this job than the guy who has done nothing but work a beat car for his entire career.

Or, you could just be an asshole.

365 days for an entire career? Hmmm... I guess a week on the medical for the flu 8 times in 15 years is over 56 days of that 365 ... too bad you broke your _____ and you needed to be off for 8 weeks. Remember that time you needed that minor surgery? Including hospital stay and recup time... give that another 5 weeks. Wow!! How about that time when you were playing with the kids and got hurt? Wow.. that was another 3 weeks on the medical and really couldn't move!! In 15 years, without even being an abuser you're almost halfway to unemployment.... If any of you out there have ever been moms, you are on the medical at least 6 weeks... that is if you take off about 2 weeks before baby is born. For some moms, their doctor does not want them driving the last month...oops--- another couple of weeks. Having 2 children without complications and the mom (without any other time on the medical) is already 84 days into the 365...And, if you have ever had kids, they bring home all the latest bugs to get you sick. I would think there would be provisions to allow leave of absence or some other status rather than just get the boot.

You sir are an idiot. Is the medical abused? Yes it is. But go after the abusers not the policy. Also you would be dumb enough to allow the city to change something despite the contract that is in place. You don't do us any good and you should be the one who quits and leaves.

Obviously YOU have not seen it....

It is a cap on how long someone can remain limited duty. Nothing about Medical Roll
It will be 365 days for your entire career.

This means you cannot become limited duty, remain limited duty and find an inside-off the street job, then maintain that status for or the next 20 years.

It means people will actually have to work, AS THE POLICE-WHAT WE WERE HIRED FOR!!
Shocking!!!!!!!

Please, read the order and become educated as to how this Department works, before you start to spout off shit you know nothing about.

365 days medical for entire career is to many , should be 10 days a year X 29 = 290 medical days during your career .

95 % of us don't use 10 medical days in 29 years , bunch of medical abusers on our department .
It has to end , let's keep our 13 holidays and 4 personal days and 6 baby furlough days .

I think it has something to do with limited duty, they will have 1 year to get back to full duty and then termination or disability. God forbid you get cancer or some other debilitating condition. This is what limited duty was meant for, not a chronic condition that is controllable. I think you will go on convalescent duty and then back to full duty. They just need to call these people out and get rid of them, maybe 3% of the department abuses this and we all pay for it. Not sure if it addresses IOD injuries.

Hey anyone hear of this. A very good friend of mind mother went I to the hospital this morning. She has had problems with her breathing... She could use an Oxygen Tank at home, however after several testing, she didn't qualify to receive the federal assistance for oxygen. The doctors inform the family that her breathing levels are high and is well enough to fend for herself... Meaning she will have to pay for her own oxygen. 77years old, and the doctors said, Obama raise the level for oxygen assistance. Omg, I never heard of this!!

Sad to see the dogs ruin a good thing. Retired now, but in 31 yrs I used 3 days medical roll. Had a few IODs but nothing major. It was nice to know it was there if I ever needed it. Can't blame the city if they cut it; too much abuse by the few.

Read it again.....It's 365 days of limited duty... Not sick days. I have not used it but remember this for those of you who are calling people dogs. This would apply for officers dealing with cancer or other major medical issues. So before you say good there are too many dogs on the job, think about what you are writing. This is not a calling in sick issue.

Anyone of us can be in a car accident off duty and eventually be told by the medical section that we are well enough to return to limited duty. Suppose you have three years on the job and you use 200 of those days because of the accident. That means you only have 165 days remaining the rest of your career (20 years + 50 years old for retirement, minimum). If you pass the amount allowed, the City could find cause to dismiss you.

Again this is NOT 365 sick days in your career. Its about 365 days of Limited Duty.

Read the order and understand it before you post something.

Ot .....Has anyone heard about or seen the supposed new G.O. that says starting January 1st we now only get 365 days of medical for our entire career? Don't we have a contract?

Most City departments only give the employee 7 hours of paid sick time per month and the option to roll any unused time each year. I'm rolling over 115 hours of unused sick time this year for example. The "Medical" program in the CPD is abused as we all know.... And it needs changing as a result of the dogs that are screwing it up for those that use it properly. Now, I know that the PO'S and FD's are at a higher risk level than Revenue or HHS or S&S...but if the new GO is 365 paid medical with no Doctors note per career, then make sure to fight for more Medical with health care documentation than you can get without documentation.

You pathetic stroke. How about the "dog" who has a brain tumor and needs life saving brain surgery and time to recover? Is he a dog? That was me, I sure appreciate the time I got to rehab. Damn tumor infested dogs you might think.

How about the "dog" who gets in a bad car accident and breaks his neck and needs a year to even get back to walking.

That wasn't me but was a friend. Another guy is riddled with cancer, Stage 4. Is he a dog? Tell that to his wife and 4 year old daughter.

There are more but you would be too fucking stupid to understand there are people all around you with legitimate injuries and illnesses.

I have a better idea, how about ridding the job of strokes like you?

You are one jackoff I would actually enjoy see getting sick, and when your year on medical and year on limited duty is over, I would volunteer to drive you to personnel to turn your stuff in.

And then you can figure out for yourself what to do next.

A very un-Merry Christmas to the increasing number of commuter burglars who, as urged by the cell phone ads on the bus shelter, "try for something better."

First they tear the aluminum gutter off your garage or steal your lawn mower before it can even cool off.

Nothing happens to them here in the Sanctuary City.

Emboldened, they come back with friends and go after the house itself.

"Three burglary suspects were caught...after a witness took down [their] license plate number...16th District commander David McNaughton said that the arrests are significant because burglaries continue to be the top crime problem in the district. A total of 904 burglaries were reported in the district between Jan. 1 and Nov. 27, compared to 796 in the previous year.

"The suspects allegedly attempted to gain entry through the window of a home in the 5100 block of North Rutherford Avenue at about 12:35 PM Tuesday, Nov. 22.

"A neighbor became suspicious after he saw two of the men run from the back yard of the home and leave in a car...the driver was identified by police as Miguel Conde, age 19, of the 2500 block of North Linder Avenue...the other suspects...were identified as Benjamin Cortez, age 19, of the 2400 block of North Springfield Avenue, and Eliezer Contreras, 20, of the 4700 block of West 20th Place, Cicero...all were charged with attempted burglary."

Quick question to anyone who knows. Why is IAD guy who was caught living somewhere other than Chicago still collecting a paycheck?
If I were caught doing the same thing I would have been stripped and given the size 12 enroute to the Police Board.
All you folks at the board fighting now keep notes on this and how long he is left on the payroll.

Merry Christmas to All

and Thanks to the Work Family

From an earlier thread....

I remember when we got a whole bunch of old donated chairs from the Dept. of Defense.
We are still using them 20 years later!

12/06/2011 03:31:00 AM<<<

They are probably very well made chairs, and MADE IN AMERICA.

In our district we had the Impound Garage stacked up with dozens of the broken office and Roll Call Room chairs that we go through like Kleenex.

They probably came from the Vanecko Office Furniture section of the Daley Crime Family. The worst are the ones in the Roll Call Room made with skinny steel frames. They were made to be easily arranged and stacked up to portable on the special furniture dolly kept in the corner.

They may do for a sedentary workforce with and average weight of no more than 185 pounds. But start having people with bigger asses (OK, I'm one of them), loaded with guns, ammo and body armor and they break like matchwood. More than one copper I know has been hurt when we heard the welds on these cheap pieces of crap snap.

I miss the old wooden benches in the one station I worked in, and the Board of Ed student desks at another.

Ot .....Has anyone heard about or seen the supposed new G.O. that says starting January 1st we now only get 365 days of medical for our entire career? Don't we have a contract?<<<

(The folowing has to be a Rahm or McCarthy troll....)

Good that's how it should be way to many dogs. If you don't like Chicago or this job why did you take the test? Leave now no one is putting a gun to your head to stay on this job. Leave and go find another job
At this time with the economy the way it is. Be happy for what you got. Stop the bitching.

12/25/2011 02:57:00 AM<<<

(Now my response)

What you may have heard of is an order about Limited or Convalescent Duty that is limited to a 365 days of a career. This would push many people with legit long term medical problems like cancer or orthopedic issues off the job and onto disability with the dogs.

The order does not mention pregnant officers brought in to the desk or office.

It's more cost cutting by the Rahmster, because cops don't bother to vote and those that do don't vote for him.

It is off duty injury time -365 days. Not medical time, not IOD time, it is 365 days non duty related medical time, So don't cut your toes off with your lawnmower and keep your beer muscles in check off duty, you'll be fine.

Hey dumbass,

What about the worker who gets hurt more than once doing their job and being proactive? So they then have to become dogs in order to not be hurt and still have a job? Think before you type, you stroke.

Special thoughts and blessings at this time of year especially to those taking care of an elderly family member as I am -- it really is "The 25 Hour Day" sometimes. Hang in there -- patience (when it would try a saint) and compassion, compassion, compassion. Your kindness will be repaid many fold.

God bless all here. Stay safe.

I think that we are on the way to world of violence like we've never seen before. With the city of Chicago becoming laxed on its laws against illegals. Espececially violent illegals, violent organizations from mexico are.moving in with u.limited resources, weapons and especially money that in reality we could see a meeting like the one in the warriors where Cyrus would be the cartel that could buy all the gangs on a commission basis and if that happens, that law enforcement as we see it will cease to exist. Mexico police are given a one year survival rate, and if it becomes a matter of life or death for the cpd like it has become for the police in Mexico, then who would want to do this work. All the blame now.lies in the hands of government. If this trend of letting violent offenders doesn't stop, then not only will Chicago be Detroit, but the United States as well. Hopefully I'm wrong God has us all.if I'm not.

"Father, grant us passage into the hereafter. We are your humble servants. Our path has not always been clear but our motives have always been pure. On this holy of holy days please hear our prayer. We dirty our souls to ensure the purity of the flock. Deliver us from the evil that we commit, for the evil is ours to digest. With malice and forethought we commit these sins, and these sins are ours to bear. We carry this cross so that others may remain unburdened, we cause harm so that others may have a clear conscience. We, the defenders of freedom, the bearers of the righteous flame beg for your forgiveness. Your wish is our crusade.

We are your hammer on the anvil of all that is just. We fear not the wolf, for he is but death, and death is our savior. And our lives we give to you in exchange for the serenity of those that are in our charge. We ask that you hold us in your loving arms so that we may live to fight another day in your names sake, and in your names sake we swear to defend those that are incapable of defending themselves. We swear to smite those that would cause harm to the innocent for we are the great and shining sword of your righteousness.

Forgive us oh Heavenly Father for what we have done and what we will do, for it is done to ensure your prosperity. Our blood is your blood, your blood is our gift of eternal life. We give unto you our most sacred possession, the breath of our being . We will ask for forgiveness, but never apologize, for we have done what is right and necessary. We ask that you lay your holy hand upon us so that we may continue to serve you now, and in the next life. The sheepdog has no shepherd. We are left to our own devices. We can only hope that we have served you in a manner in which you see fit. We bow our heads to no one but you. We pray this in your name. "

You're full of it. You either were never IAD, or you're just trying to stir stuff up.

I am former IAD. And occcasionally I had to work residency cases.

When caught, even when they outright admitted it, NOBODY was instantly stripped or fired. If they went through the entire process, it took about nine or ten months.

Most guys put in their retirement papers just before the 'final-final' hearing date and that was that. When asked off the record how long they had, we told them six to nine months before you're actually fired.

Most people rode it out as long as they could, to get one more anniversary date in, or one more furlough. And, as one guy put it, "Now, I can finally invite my friends to parties at my home."

So, no; he's probably not being treated any differently than anyone else. And, before you think I'm defending him, if it's who I think it is, I left there long before he arrived and started shooting himself in the foot.

12/25/2011 03:59:00 PM

I can understand te serious illnesses but you have to admit there are numerous officers with bullshit light duty injuries. Imaginary foot, leg and arm injuries for years. Yet they can still exercise and take active vacations. If the department can eliminate the fakes then we would not need the changes.

The more important question should be, why were they working on a holiday ? And were they getting paid time in a half to do so? You need first responder coverage on the holiday but I think we could have done without the DOR ticket writers. The city is broke!

Somebody needs to see a proctologist because they are full of crap.

No one uses an "Oxygen Tank" on a long term basis any more. My late wife used an "OXYGEN CONCENTRATOR" an electrical machine which produces oxygen from ambient air. We only had a small oxygen cylinder to use if we had a machine or power failure.

The Department CAN eliminate the fakes, but they refuse to. When the first medical abuse team was formed 25yrs ago, plenty of abuse was found, including an officer who hit the medical for a torn fingernal (oooh, there was blood!).

But, when it was found that the abusers were the clout-babies, the kids of bosses, the alderman's relative, the insurance agent for someone in Streets, etc., etc., the unit was quietly done away with.

And, now, the current 'abuse' unit is finding the same problems and is dealing with the same hurdles.

Don't punish the many for the sins of the few, no matter HOW clouted the 'few' are.

Because there is a PROCESS that has to be followed. You know, the SAME ONE that you want in place if YOU get jammed up for something.

There is a process alright! If you think for one second that it is a fair one you have been sipping too much jack.
The weirdest thing about cases that are termination cases since you speak of a process, no command channel review. Directly from IAD up to the Sup. Why are bosses that can add their input and who actually supervised the accused not able to intervene. Dan Dugan was a good boss that always looked out for the working police. But then again when the copper is a person that someone wants to screw why would they want anyone to interfere with that PROCESS....

The only one sipping too much Jack here is you.

Dan Dugan UPPED every disciplinary action I recommended. He kicked back every closing, demanding more time, or more documentation that would RESULT in more time. He may have saved YOUR ass at some point, but he jammed many a copper the supervisors tried to help.

And, there is no such thing as '
too much Jack'.

There should still be some sort of review and input from bosses other then those in IAD.
Then maybe the Sup will weigh in with some for and some against and maybe someone will get a fair shake. This also can put the brakes on a screw-job that some do get even when their case is really not a seperation case at all. If you are really a frai thinker you should at agree that some get screwed for a nothing case .
