Victim Fights Back

  • The tables were turned on a would-be iPhone robber who was pursued by the victim – a former wrestler – into the Loop’s Miller’s Pub after the attack on a southbound Green Line train early Saturday, police said.

The victim was on his way to his Bronzeville neighborhood home on a southbound Green Line train in the Loop area about 1 a.m. and had his iPhone out when 20-year-old Christopher Dunn tried to take it, police said.

A police source said Dunn “clocked him (the victim) hard in the temple,’’ but the victim -- in his mid 20s and a former wrestler -- fought back and the two “tumbled” out at the Adams Street station.

The victim held on to his phone and Dunn apparently began to realize the man was overpowering him, so he fled down the “L” stairs and into Miller’s Pub, 134 S. Wabash Ave., police said.
But remember - downtown is safe. Nothing there to stop the tourists from coming there and spending money, right? Sadly, this is going to become the norm as Rahm guts the Department down to 8,000 bodies.

Woman’s cell phone taken at Argyle “L”, ‘husband’ chased suspect down train tracks

After a woman’s cell phone was snatched at a North Side “L” stop, a man identified as the victim's husband, chased the offender from Uptown through Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood, said police.

At 7:43 a.m., CTA reported a theft at the Argyle Red Line station at 1118 West Argyle Street in Uptown, said authorities.

Investigators said a male black offender grabbed a female victim’s cell phone, jumped off the platform, and ran northbound on the train tracks.

According to police dispatch reports, the offender ran as far as the Bryn Mawr “L” station, with the victim’s husband right on his heels.

At 7:55 a.m., the suspect was apprehended by police.

It’s not clear where police nabbed the offender.

Apparently, when the suspect was arrested, he no longer had the stolen cell phone in his possession.

Investigators believe the thief threw the cell phone over the train tracks during the foot chase.

A male victim was robbed of his iPad and his cell phone in Chicago’s Near South Side neighborhood, said authorities.

According to police dispatch, the aggravated robbery occurred around 11:06 a.m. near the 1900 block of South State Street.

A male black, believed to be in his 20s, pushed the victim against a fence and tried to hit him, said dispatch.

The offender is approximately 5’11” with a dark complexion and short hair.

The suspect was wearing a black pea coat or dress coat, black slacks, and black, shiny dress shoes.

As the offender fled the scene eastbound on West Cullerton Street, he almost slipped and fell, said police.

At the time of this report, the robber was still at large.

We are very close to being a police department where the guy with 5-7 years on is the new guy. Retirements are up and hiring is down, not good for crime, morale, or the pension fund.

I would like to know this answer. If Rahm wants to get the department down to 8,000 officers, but the tax payers are billed for 13,500 why aren't the tax payers getting a refund?

As more and more decent folks flee Chicago an 8000 person police force looks real enough. All that will left of this town in ten to twenty years is a population of Gangsters and their ilk. The only money that will flow into the city is federal funds and water money extorted from the suburbs. Detroit all over again.

Sad the way people on this department think. Wheres your honor dignity. I no rahm and mcshitty are assholes. But this is not the way to do things. I have way to much pride in myself to hold out on an iod. We need eachother in this time. God bless and to alll stay safe

Retired blue shirt

12/26/2011 04:02:00 AM

We dont "need each other" after you retire. I respect and I'm jealous of you but "you" cannot help us at this point. Its good to hear about honor and dignity, but lets face it, there are too many people on CPD for "just a check and benefits".

I heard it from actual fellow recruits when I came on the job 14 years ago. "I aint arresting nobody", "I aint chasin' nobody" ( The beginning of the College Req. age). Im sure they are still on the job, earning that check. I take pride in my work ethic. I go to sleep at night and sleep good knowing I did my job. It pisses me off, but I learned to deal with knowing only a handful of guys (even less girls) will actually come to your aid when you need help. If I get injured, I will take the time to heal, but I try to work smarter. No jumping over or tackling anyone anymore. I plan to be in good physical health when I retire and move on.

The "Department" doesnt care about you because there is no stability. No one stays around in any one spot to care what happens to anyone. Supts come and go, the bosses stepping on each other trying to get to the top, Watch Commanders, close to retirement, taking extended furlos, going on the medical/IOD, Lt's shipped all around the City as "visitors" (not knowing whats going on in the Districts the supervise for a night), Sgts, not enough on the street, barely able to log all their cars much less do the administrative part of the job and Po's that try to do the job not feeling like any cares or backs them.

Leadership is a faint idea in CPD. They talk about it, but it never actually comes out and displayed. Raise the retirement age? Please God NO!!! Get the young blood in and let the dead weight go. Its a young persons job. The more new PO's brought out on the street, the better the morale.

Promote more Supervisors, Detectives, E.T.'s, FTO's, K-9 Handlers, etc.... Give Officers something to look forward to. Most would like to be given the opportunity to advance in their careers.

You want a to promote honor, integrity, pride, etc? CPD must become a PROFESSIONALLY run organization again. TOO many "goofs" making decisions with ZERO Police experience. You MUST know the job before you take charge or set policies in place.

Oh lastly and I say "GO FUCK YOURSELF" to any of the Media trolls reading this blog. You have no integrity or morals. Have a great day.

I love Miller's Pub.

But more to the point: while I hate to be a "blame the victim" type, the simple fact of the matter is that anyone victimized by these apple pickers is clearly not reading the paper, or listening to the news on the radio, or paying any goddamn attention to what goes on around them in the larger sense (gangbangers love stealing mobile devices on the El) or the local sense (hey, I'm on an El car and that guy seems very interested in my iphone). I mean, what are they reading on these devices that cannot wait till they get home, or at least get off the train and go down to the station where the CTA customer rep might provide some small element of protection? Are they reading news stories about people getting robbed on the El when they get robbed on the El? One can only hope. Just as drivers have to both operate their own vehicles safely and pay attention to how other people are operating theirs, riders on public transportation and pedestrians on the street have to pay attention to the world around them, something that these devices, or the slavish way people plug into them, seem to prevent. People have a responsibility for their own safety, and that means paying attention to their surroundings. Of course, I felt this way when the Sony Walkman came out, and that battle is lost.

Against my better judgement, I proceeded to the Gold Coast with the family. BIGGGGGGGGGGGG MISTAKEEEEEEEEEEEEE. Their were roving bands of thugs hooting and hollering, Police chasing guys all over, soemthing was going on in the tubes. My view of 18h District coppers has changedm they have their hands full. The Water Tower was out of control. It was crazy. Downtown has been lost, people were watching as some guy got lucked up and his homies were yelling F the police. People are strating to wise up. By the way. The parking tax was not worth the price of admission.

How about we just let him give the iphone back, let him not admit or deny anything and call it a day.

That's how it works at the corporate and political level of society. He'll promise not to do THAT again just like the bankers! Promise!

Seriously, how much more time and manpower are we gonna waste with regards to a $500 phone?

Ready to blow $5,000 in legal and admin expenses paying for a judge a jailor and attorneys...for what?

It's cheaper for the taxpayers to just buy the damn phones and hand them out to anyone that wants one.

Problem solved and crime rate cut.

If the politicians want to show us respect for the law start at the top and work down. Start with the top 13 banker CEO's and the trillion dollar crimes affecting billions of people around the world.

Magnificent Mile was out of control Monday with the usual male blacks/female blacks walking in groups of 50 to 100 stealing and fighting on Michigan ave to include the Watertower Place and John Hancock building. Person shot on the red line at Roosevelt and State, typical behavior. If the department can't handle 500 out of control animals than we are no way ready for the NATO/G8 summit...anyone that was downtown or had a scanner knows how ridiculous it was. What a slum Chicago has become!

That's right. Crime has decreased in the United States. Now that Chicago is in the process of returning to the United States after years of unconstitutional behavior perhaps the crime rate there will start to decline like the rest of the country. Now all Illinois needs is "shall-issue concealed carry" and no FOID cards.

They probably say it now... lol.
Hoping to retire at 50..... That was in no way a "dis" to the guys with time on. Just dont keep us on waaaaayyyy after we are ready to go. We/PO's do get broken down on this job, physically and mentally. One b.s. lawsuit and most will never work again in their career. Even when we're cleared of any wrong doing, we are stressed for the 2 years they drag you and your family through the system. It happens and its understandable to want to protect your family.... Kids gotta eat.
