How Shortshanks Screwed All
The Tribune continues to write like they just found the key to the safety deposit box with their balls in it. Another broadside at the Daley years:
- Two years into his reign as Chicago's longest-serving mayor,Richard M. Daleytook advantage of the state's convoluted pension system to significantly increase his potential payout while saving $400,000 in contributions, a Tribune/WGN-TV investigation has found.
Daley, a former state senator, made it happen by briefly rejoining the legislative pension plan in 1991. He stayed there just one month before returning to Chicago's municipal pension fund, but the switches made him eligible for benefits worth 85 percent of his mayoral salary — a better rate than all other city employees receive.
He was just 49 years old at the time. Even if Daley had never won another election, he could have started collecting a public pension at age 55 of $97,750 a year. Without the steps he took, his public pension benefits at that age would have been worth just $20,686.
But remember, it's those evil police, firefighters and teachers bankrupting the funds.

Wow. Just NOW they're digging up Daley's misdeeds?
They couldn't report this when he was in office?
I suppose the idiot electorate would have re-elected him regardless.
Too little, too late Tribune. Thanks for nothing.
Daley's total take home pension is just over $180,000, and the interesting thing is he contributed at a much lower rate, because the deductions came from his first assemblymen's salary, so he saved himself almost a half million bucks in out of pocket contributions...and I though hizonner was kind of a slow witted guy all of these years!
The first thing I am going to do when this piece of dung kicks the bucket is this....
1) Drink a 40oz of stale beer.
2) Eat a 12 pack of sliders and a bowel of chili.
3) Chase the above with 5 sticks of exlax.
Then I will head over to dickheads grave and blast an ass load right on his head stone.
Hey Richie I hope Karma delivers you one awesome ride to hell you jagoff.
Pension reform means changing the system moving forward not correcting theivery.
also remember that the citizens are beholding to the wonderful ex-mayor to pick up the expense of his security guards and drivers.
and what do you suppose is the reason for the revolving door in and out of Washington for certain Chicago politicians to hold the Chief of Staff position for a few months?
Going after Shortshanks now is one thing, going after the current little rat bastard, tutu wearing, digitally deficient, prick is quite another. I'll believe the Trib found its' balls when they start hammering Raccoon eyes, not before.
Even if he pulls in 200k a year, that's only equal to what, like 3-4 police officers with 20-30 years on. It's the overwhelming number of police officers and other public servants that have overwhelmed the pension fund because the city mismanaged/ignored the problem. Who cares what he pulls in. If you took away his pension it wouldn't make a dent in saving ours.
Yep it's us rotten bastards that are causing the strain on the pension system just ask Rahm. He wants pension reform, AKA less benefits, for us and he wants it now.
No mention if reform for Shanks and the alderthieves though!
Where were all of these investigative reporters when the Lord Mayor Daley was in office???????
Dear Trib and Sun Times,
Too little, too late.
Fucking cowards.
Why is the Trib even printing this crap. We all know this little corrupt bastard, and his coharts, have been gaming the system for years. How much more of this bullshit are we going to take before we drive all of these low life bastards from office. This state has to be the biggest joke in the nation.
I think the current Mayor should pull his security detail. If he wants a security detail I think Daley can afford it all on his own....
A day late and a few million dollars short. The Chicago papers totally failed their readers. That's why they will soon be extinct.
The Tribune is didn't find their balls, their just as balless as ever. They are now going after Daley because they know he really can't mess with them anymore. We will know when the Trib finds its balls when it starts going after the current regime. But I am not holding my breath.
aka: "The (CLOUT) Elephant in the Room"
Two quick points off of other peoples comments. These points are connected. First is with regards to the commenter who pointed out that pension reform is from this point forward and not correcting past theivery. Wrong! Every misdeed has to be attacked. (I would say its a misdeed more than a theft since he operated within the law or bending of the law.) The second comment is to the commenter who questions who cares what Daley pulls in as it won't make a dent in ours (pension fund). Answer: I do! This is how the whole broken system got so far out of whack!
Mayor Daley's Legacy to himself and his friends the gift that keeps on stealing from the taxpayers!
But, it is the Police and Fire Dept. fault that the Pension Funds of Chicago is going broke!
WHAT AN ASSHOLE!

My bud is a deployed marine/cop and the city is giving him a hard time about paying into our pension and Fop is not helping either.
WTF her's a guy that wants to pay and nobody is giving him assistance.
That should speak volumes
Semper Fi
Yet he won every ward on the northwest and southwest side (the ones with all the police and fireman) by a landslide every election. So whos really to blame.
Maybe the Tribune will now look at the pensions of the aldermen and the cook county board and other boards and commissions around the city and state. Can you spell pensions and health care benefits that are better then any employees??

Your reasoning process is beyond absurd. It's ludicrous.
Silly, just silly.
Hate to say it, but Richie's pension, and even the pensions of all the aldercreatures combined are a drop in the bucket.
The problem is not that police, teachers and firefighters are greedy. The problem is that our idiot leaders jacked up pension benefits for everyone without spending a moment's thought on how, one fine day in the future, we're going to pay for all this.
There was no adult supervision whatsoever. None. They just kept on spending like we were paying the bills from the big rock candy mountain.
maggie got the 3.5 million too!
When Harold Washington ran for mayor there were signs saying Vote Republican before its too late. Now after Daley has used lube in your asses for 20 years, his friends and family have retirement plans (Walsh Construction, the Duff family, Degnans, the list goes on) that sign was meant for Dickie I would presume. Enjoy this beef sandwich.
the scum fuck put an incorrect ssn on his pension paperwork, degnan corrected it. what a dumb fuck....
But our pension is fuked up
LOL and they will dedicate some park to this bag O'Shite
When I lived in CHICAGO I quit voting for mayor cause there was no way to get this leech out .. People actually think that it's the CITY workers that keep these fools in office.. maybe someone should speak up and let the citizens KNOW it's OK to vote the SMUT out.. bet your elections would make MORE people vote the bad ones out those like me who sat home.. BTW did anyone really THINK Daley was in it for the LOVE of the CITY???
"Then I will head over to dickheads grave and blast an ass load right on his head stone."
There's gonna be a L-O-N-G line.
Wait your turn!
"Pension reform means changing the system moving forward not correcting theivery."
"Reform" is a code word.
Pension reform, immigration reform.
It makes it sound like it's something good. Nice spin.
No, it won't correct past thievery. We have to pass other laws to do that.
"If you took away his pension it wouldn't make a dent in saving ours."
No it wouldn't, but you've got to get satisfaction when you can, where you can.
An example must be made so that our other elected "representatives" don't try the same chicanery.
Kass: Daley deal should make people sick
Updated 10:06 a.m.
"Chicago is near insolvency. City workers are bracing for pay and benefit cuts. And Rich Daley, the former mayor who had his behind kissed by the powerful in this town ..., has an inside pension deal that should make sane people sick."
http://www.chicagotribune.com/
No doesn't make Rahm sick, not at all.
In fact we haven't done enough for the ex-mayor. We the taxpayers need to pay for his security and drivers and things into perpetuity right?
What kind of benefits do people qualify for when they take the Presidents Chief of Staff position for a year or so? Seems like we have an abnormal number of Chicago politicians doing that too.
2: 43 am I can tell of your weariness of the system. Please dont give up. You stated 3-4 officers would benefit from a pension, as lucrative as mayor richard mumbles, that is a big deal. But he didnt give those officers a chance. Those officers have already paid their 9%, while, the city, under daleydom paid none. Twenty years of his shenanigans, he paid less into it and made sure he'd get top dollar in return. All the while short changing those 3-4 officers. So, yes it does matter. Although the tribune is on the rahm agenda, releasing stories making his benefactors look like the thieves they are, all the while making the daleys, both bill and richie, to counter attack by talking term limits, the unnecessary longer school day etc., the public/taxpayer can finally read for themselves what scc and coppers have been furiously, passionately trying to get the public/taxpayer to realize. The pension system has to be saved. The Fop membership, both retired/current officers, family, friends have to get politically active, you cant just let your "union leaders" take the helm and expect them not to sell you out for their own benefit. Right? Gannon, Donahue, shields..wink wink. Go to your union meetings, townhall meetings, visit the city council, so you can see for yourself the pompous assholes, mell, burke, brookins, beale, solís, cardenas, zewlewski, do nothing, but waste your money. Get involved. Its hard to go to these meetings and see a couple handful of people. See, for yourselves, how the lack of numbers allows these asshats to benefit themselves. Get involved. Send a message come november. The future of your pension and livelihood depend on your willingness to get involved.
This is how we demonize the public pensions to win the hearts and minds of the people to enable pension cuts for the police, fire and the teachers.
Those greedy blood sucking bastards!
We can't afford the pension because the politicians didn't keep their end of the written pension agreements. So to fix it the politicians get off Scott free and we should either: A) delay retirement or B) contribute more to make up for the stolen money or C) both. No-one held accountable. It's hooray for me and eff you. I got mine.

Typical fucking Moron, that has no clue what their talking about.
Still remember when Daley and his wife left City Hall for the last time. Hundreds of indentured payroll peons bowing and sucking on their manicured toes. Some little asshole yells out "fuck you Daley" and he winds up getting prison time because the cop who chased him got hurt. Why the cop even chased down this jerk is beyond me. Anyway this sums up the entire story of the Daley years. Now the "bill" is coming due because the "micro manager" fucked us all. Now he dances around his brothers condo on Michigan Ave., pissing down on the peasants walking the street from the balcony, and gets chauffeured around with a city car, police bodyguards, and free gas. All paid for by us the tax payers. He makes lots of trips to China to make even more money on all of the "favors" he did while fucking us all those years. No wonder this fuckhead laughs all the time.
Since the CCSA and the FED's absolutely REFUSE to look at the corruption surrounding the daley crime sydnicate, the citizens have an absolute right to set up a true peoples court. Remember how Mussolini wound up. Fuck these wannabe tyrants.

That persistant burned grass stain, around the old man's and now maggies plot. Hehehe. A handful of vitamin c and a couple beers makes for some real acidic piss. At richies wake they better have a spit screen with a windshield wiper in front of the box.

So we should just sit there and take this BS ?
I wonder if the aggregate of all the scams could constitute a RICO violation for all involved.
Does anyone else wonder or know if shortshanks is collecting any widower's money (death benefits) from any of the so called committee or chairperson positions that the Mrs held here in Chicago? Or anywhere for that fact?
HEY - Cook County has a shortfall of over 4140 BILLION.
Who is going to pick up the tab?? YOU? Not me. Not the South or West sides.
We are going to rename Cook County and Illinois "New Greece" and "New Spain" because we are in just as bad a shape as those countries.
Be ready to tighten your belt - BIG TIME. Cuts have to come from somewhere.
Obama is alway talking about if those with more just paid a little bit more it would help a lot.
Oooooh, K. How about a tax on City, State and Federal pensioners who receive publicly funded pensions exceeding oh say $100K, per individual?
And, if they are double pension dippers, they'll get taxed twice.
Daley and his "Bodyguards", I've seen him around 18 and I don't see him with any.
I'm sorry about the passing of his wife but I wonder, are we still paying for the same size detail as before her passing?
How about the socalled newspapers asking about these things???
-not a cop
(Not the not a cop moonbat that thinks the CPD can redeem itself this May for '68. A Middle Finger salute to him/her).
Former Mayor of Chicago William Hale Thompson is suspected of corruption and having ties to organized crime including the Capone mob, the Chicago Tribune reported today.
"Someone ought to investigate" the Trib said in a scathing editorial.
It's just too damn bad that Mayor Thompson died in 1944 or the Tribune would really let him have it, by golly.
The Daley Family plot is in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Worth, IL. Next time you are out drinking beer and have to relieve yourself keep this spot in mind.
Question?
Did Daley arrange for the Vanecko family to invest the funds from the pension fund that is giving him inflated benefits?
I doubt it!
Why would any lowly detective perjure themselves to protect Daley and the Vanecko family! Tell what you know about the Koschman death.
This is one of those rare times....we all agree with the media outlet that did the story.
Anyone out there want to take one for the team and accidentally run Daley over?
Damn what a country. So a person gets to vote in what pension plan they want, how much to put in and then the amount to receive on the back end. The entire time Daley is planning this like a fox while making it seems like he is for the everyday man and woman and he is in it for himself. And he was not in this alone. Someone had to pass the votes to make this happen. Not a cop, fireman or teacher but this sucks. Daley saved 400k in contributions. WTF.
Daley's total take home pension is just over $180,000, and the interesting thing is he contributed at a much lower rate, because the deductions came from his first assemblymen's salary, so he saved himself almost a half million bucks in out of pocket contributions...and I though hizonner was kind of a slow witted guy all of these years!

i would sure like to know, who has a child benefitting from asm. this program cost 4 m a year. that money should be put into the pension fund. ask alderman burke why money meant for the fund doesnt get there.
All creatures great and small should squat and squeeze on his grave.
Now all sudden the WHORE media is talking?
These jag-offs were bought out by the Daley crime family, over the years and now that these FUCKERS are not getting paid... They want to disclosed corruption?
Where is the US Attorney ???? Why havent Daley and Madigan been indited ???? for underfunding the pensions of City Workers for 22 years so he didnt have to raise property taxes and get re elected over and over........And as far as the current Mayor goes. Why doesnt the legislation in Springfield( Hey Madigan , thats you asshole ) pass a law that the City has to fund the pensions with monies raised from the Red Light Cameras and Speeding Violations Cameras untill they are fully up to date . Those cameras raise about 300 MIllion a Year and not a dime should go to the City untill the pensions are solvent......Hey FOP dont we have lobbyists in Springfield....Get this done.......make some noise,Chanel 9 you listing ?

I don't know about you but none of these leaders "jacked up" Chicago Police pension benefits. We don't get cost of living raises, automatic increases or any extras. The "jacking up" was done to enhance pensions of the elite only.

What keeps the blood sucking leech Mayors in office is the over 70% of voters who do NOT vote. They can't be bothered so they get it good and hard. They deserve it too/
In other countries voting is mandatory and turnout is something like over 90%. And here, where so much American blood has been shed to keep the freedoms we have, so many cannot be bothered to step into a polling place to cast a ballot. No mystery then how the corrupt bastards get in and stay in office.

My taxes have gone up over $2000 just in the last ten years therefore I can't agree that underfunding the pensions in exchange for no property taxes is true. No matter what they say, even the new threats to double prop taxes, is ridiculous because they will be raised anyway for one bogus reason or another. The city needs to get rid of the tif money and stop overcharging it's citizens for benefits we never see but only companies do. Citizens should not have to pay for a company to get a break here.

5/02/2012 09:23:00 AM
There is no "reasoning process." I am stating that concentrating on how much Daley is pulling in is a waste of time. We need to focus on pension reform and not cast blame because that will get us no where.
Our pension system is broken. There are too many people drawing from the fund and not enough money to fund it. Even if the city contributes properly, the pension was not built to support this many people. Lets say you retire with thirty years on: you would have contributed anywhere from 210,000 - 320,000. Now, the city contributes their percentage and stocks and bonds are supposed to support the rest. Lets say you're hired at 30, retire at 60 and live until 80. That's 20 years of receiving a city pension. You'll be getting roughly 60,000 a year from our pension fund. 60k times 20 years 1.2 million per officer. This system can work if our trade market is in good shape and if we a limited amount of officers. However, with the current state of things, our pension system will collapse, even if the city contriubtes their end. I feel because we have a contract that says we'll get this much when we'll retire, they owe us this. Grandfather us in. If the city was smart, they'd end the pension system all together and offer 401k. There is a reason why the private industry doesn't have pensions. THEY ARE TOO F'ING EXPENSIVE.
How dare any subjects question the actions of the Royal Family? They can do what they choose, even kill...
There is no "reasoning process." I am stating that concentrating on how much Daley is pulling in is a waste of time. We need to focus on pension reform and not cast blame because that will get us no where.
5/03/2012 01:47:00 AM
Come to think of it, you are correct. There is no reasoning process. You have none. It is you that is absurd.
Yes, pension reform is needed, but to ignore the near-criminal past acts of the shanks is foolish. Shining a light on his corrupt acts is a good thing. It might someday lead to him wearing an orange jumpsuit. I pray for it.
I do not really understand the the pension laws of this State and City but, can the "union" sue the city to pay into the pension fund as required n\nby law?? How can the racoon say in public that he will violate State law and NOT pay anything into the pensions funds as mandated by State law and get away with it???? Just asking.

Despite all this fleecing of the taxpayers by Shanks, Rahm continues to provide him with bodyguards and city cars!
When asked about Daley and the alderthieves outrageous pensions Rahm sidesteps the question and said we need pension reform, AKA less benefits, for city workers. You are a grade A asshole Rahm!
