- CompStat is out of control today SCC. McCarthy raked ol' Carrothers over the coals again for some low performing Area teams. One team that produced only 1 arrest and 105 Contact Cards in a month was recommended for immediate dumping. Wysinger concurred stating, "Maybe they should go back to a slow district where they don't have to do anything." While I understand teams are a good spot if you produce for the boss, why be so deliberately negative toward traditionally slow districts? Are they looking to cut manpower ever more in the slow parts of town?
Then it got real bad.
McCarthy and others kept harping on manpower considerations. McCarthy actually asked if Time Due should be removed from the Watch/District control and given to the Areas for granting/denying time off. Then Wysinger, in a kool-aid induced fit, actually stated to the assembled gold stars and other attendees of all ranks that "There should be NO TIME DUE GRANTED FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE." I didn't get to write down the exact quote, but Wysinger told everyone that the city had given the Department the "4 on - 2 off" schedule, so Time Due shouldn't even be an issue. After all, you get 15 extra days off a year. No need to take off Saturdays, Sundays or plan for family days, ball games, whatever.
This place is truly circling the drain.
OK, so no more Time Due for anyone? All summer? All year? Fuck you Wysinger. You were a worthless cop when we knew you, a multiple-time promoted merit hack, a thief of awards that better cops than you have paid for in blood and you've only gotten worse with age. Now you're drinking the Rahm/McCarthy koolaid by the barrel full and we're pretty sure that isn't a sugar glaze on your face. You disgust us and we're damn glad all we see of this Department is in our rearview mirror.
Anyone who was at this meeting ought to be calling FOP and asking if the Department, specifically Al Wysinger, can deny you time off that you've earned. Time Due means that it's "DUE" to the men and women who have it. Stop fucking with the troops.

For the record the 4/2 sucks! Ten hour days gave coppers 52 days more off a year and all we had to do was work 1 more hour. But that would have given us "too much" time off to spend with family and friends. You still have to put in time due slips on the 4/2 just to ever see weekends! We need a better schedule and no time due restrictions....pay people overtime and hire new coppers!!!!!!

Midway Airport was closed to flights this evening due to runway lighting problems, according to the FAA.
It was unknown when flights would resume at the airport, according to the FAA’s website.
Chicago Department of Aviation spokeswoman Karen Pride said an "unknown electrical outage" affected the airfield lights at about 8:30 p.m.
Midway operations are working with the airlines and FAA officials regarding diversions from the airport to other airports, said Pride.
As of about 10:30 p.m. 50 flights have been affected so far, said Pride. She said the outage occurred at the end of the day.
The terminals are not affected, she said.
Pride suggested that people contact the individual airlines for the flight status overnight and into the morning.
ComEd Spokeswoman Martha Swaney said they have been able to determine that the cause was not related to a ComEd power issue, but rather to an equipment failure at the airport itself.
ComEd crews were at the airport this evening working with airport officials to determine the cause of the outage and to help rectify the problem, Swaney said.
Passengers lit up social media networks including Twitter to complain about being held on airplanes for several hours as they watched runway lights flicker and then go out completely.
"Sitting on tarmac for almost two hours, runway lights keep flickering but won't stay on...not looking good," said one person.
"I'm stuck on the tarmac. Hot. Sweaty. Frustrated. And hot. Pray for good customer service," said another passenger.

That's why we keep hours on the books so we can particapate in family activities once in a while. The electrical foreman at Midway is a tool. He managed to fall off of a high lift at O'Hare and goes on Worker's Compensation. After a period of convalescence he gets promoted off the clout list (19th Ward).

You really can't make this up folks. A young aggressive officer in my district had his time due denied for his daughter's very first birthday. Do you know what he did the very next day? He made two arrests, two impounds, 12 movers and 10 parkers. The bosses will continue to fuck us over as long as we allow them to do so. If we stand united then they will become reasonable. We have the power and authority to make our working conditions better. We are our own worst enemy.
The s/s is job mostly done by a sgt, they are good enough to approve arrest reports and trr reports but not comp time unreal what this job has come to. Never had it this bad when we actually had a captain running the watch. It's easy to say no comp time for the troops when you have the wkds off!

I have told every copper I have had to deny time to that they need to call the Union and file a grievance. The Union went to court a few years ago and there was a judicial determination that said the Department cannot deny you time you have earned just because of a manpower shortage they choose to operate with. There is no longer the use of the term “if you get denied”, it is clearly a “when you get denied” situation. PLEASE FILE A GRIEVANCE with the Union. You won’t piss me off and not get your time next time, I don’t care. FILE IT! It has absolutely no effect on me. I will give you all the time off I can; really, I just have the upper management’s edicts to follow without any discretion offered to me.
I am a copper, I like being the police. I like catching the bad guy and solving crime. I enjoy it; always have. I do expect you, and everyone else to do the bare minimum. I don’t screw with anyone, dog or worker, desk guy or tact guy. The guys and girls coming in with some work will get their needs considered before those who choose to lay down, that’s just how it is. But when it comes to time due I only ask that you consider your coworkers and remember that given the current trends by downtown, you may one day NEED time and someone else will have to work instead of taking the time they wanted so you can get that day off. In other words what goes around comes around; look out for each other. Ok, and while I’m at it, I don’t condone hitting the medical; it is NOT your free day off guarantee. The medical benefit we have is a precious benefit, and those who abuse it cause us all to risk losing it. I and many other bosses don’t tolerate its abuse, but that is just in the name of preserving it. I do, and will continue to notify the integrity section when I know someone is playing with that benefit. If necessary you can take the day off without pay non-disciplinary if you truly NEED it and not risk ruining the medical benefit for all of us, or getting yourself fired for misusing it. YES people have been getting fired for it for the past six or seven years now. My point is, I am not a jagoff boss that you constantly complain of, I look out for you and always will. I don’t have the discretion I used to, they are slowly making it routing for the Areas to control and dictate time (they already do for sergeants and lieutenants), and I can easily see the folks at HQ ending up with the responsibility of managing all time off requests. The only thing stopping that is they know they are wrong by running so short and routinely violating the mandates of the court about denying time due requests, and they want the blame to lay elsewhere when the shit finally hits. SO FILE THE DAMN GRIEVANCES ALREADY AND GET THIS BACK IN COURT! It’s the only way to change or correct their wrongdoing.

We're budgeted for 13,500 coppers right? That means their is money put aside for the hiring of those officers right? Hire the nearly 2,000 officers we're short. Where is that money being spent? You're putting officers lives at risk being short. You're putting the citizens lives at risk being that short. You're causing back logs everyday, terrible response times to jobs and exhausting all the officers. You're also underfunding the pension fund. Each month 30-40 retire collecting from the fund but less and less each month putting in. This department and city sucks.
When was the last time Dunkin Al worked a full tour of duty???

I used to always hear pretty good things about Wysinger (besides the lambert tree thing). To think that the guy would throw away 20+ years of being liked and respected for a little bump in pay and now treats all of us like shit. Why would anyone want their legacy on this job to be one of treating cops like shit and being hated by just about all of us. He truly did sell his soul and any respect he earned over his career is all gone, for the like of a few thousand dollars. Sickening.
I wish there was a way for us to pull up Wysinger's time due history. I'll bet when he was a blue shirt he put in for more than a few weekends off. How would he feel if he was never able to have gotten any of those. Why can't he see that denying time due is not right and not fair. We EARNED that time. really, there should be no restrictions on it at all. That's our time earned fair and square from staying late and court and such, we should be able to use it at OUR discretion. I think the FOP needs to take all these denied slips and restricted weekends back to court and force the city's hand.
The City gave us the 4 -2 schedule BECAUSE it encouraged people to take more time off (the books!). Now that knucklehead is beefing about it?
Someone should tell Wysinger to refresh his math, 2080 hrs minus 2074 only amounts to less than 1 day not 15. And for the knuckle head who thinks he gets more time off with the 10 hour day heres the math 208 X 10 = 2080. which means you are working the same amount of time as the old 6-2,which means your off the same amount of time. its just arranged differently. Remember your fractions, lowest common denominator and that is hours.

Jeez, I hold the exalted high rank of Patrolman for Life and even I made one arrest in June. I swerved the Tahoe almost into oncoming traffic but the asshole could not be avoided. He just leaped into the rear of my car begging to be handcuffed and taken to jail.
So I figured well, if the prick is going to make me work three hours overtime by making me arrest him on my way in to check off, well, I know how to give out the Full Fuck when necessary and that is what he got.
A felony upgrade while on parole and he is now on his way back to Shawnee Correctional Center to complete the year left on his sentence plus the probable two years he will get for being so fucking ignorant as to make me arrest him while all I wanted to do is go home.
I will endeavor to be more careful in July.

Thanks for the math lesson sparky, but I'll have my work schedule arranged with the 10 hour-days giving me stretches of 3 and 4 consecutive days off without using cu, pd, BFD, doh or v time.

Our family was lucky to survive but not many families are able to survive the long hrs, court time, lack of family time and that is not even counting the stress that comes with the job. We can't even count one couple that stayed together - so sad. To all the young officers, please hold on tight to your families, in the end that is all that you will have.
Attended the Brian Strouse memorial service tonight in 012. Very sad, very touching. No Supt McCarthy.
Wysinger was present and gave a pep talk. Pretty much fell on deaf ears. Who else was noticeably absent were all the Lts. currently assigned to 012. Not one Lt. bothered to show up and support the officers who were there as well as the Strouse family. Who was there were the 3 captains who were dumped from 012. Capt Hoot was there. Capt Gibson was there and even Capt Carroll who is retired returned for the ceremony. 012 really went to shit when we lost our Captains. The Lts. are useless - but I'm sure it's the same in all the districts.

Someone should tell Wysinger to refresh his math, 2080 hrs minus 2074 only amounts to less than 1 day not 15. And for the knuckle head who thinks he gets more time off with the 10 hour day heres the math 208 X 10 = 2080. which means you are working the same amount of time as the old 6-2,which means your off the same amount of time. its just arranged differently. Remember your fractions, lowest common denominator and that is hours.
You work 52 days less a year with the ten hour day....4/2 = 15 days less a year. 10 hour day = 52 days less a year. Hows that math mofo? Ill take 4 days off a week anytime beeeotch. Give me the 10 hour day, clown.
Instead of dropping time due put all the officers back in the districts then we won't have to deny anyone. There are so many units , how many in narcotics, what about area teams etc., They are assigned to districts but not working in a district!!
It's always the beat officers being fucked over. These teams are cruising around and not tied to radio jobs that's why there are backlogs.
Pick furloughs amongst themselves, time never denied. How do I apply for an area team?

I truely understand your frustration, but the "at least I have a job mentality" is not an option anymore. I understand not being proactive and doing what is needed to get by and get by under the radar, but just because it is bad everywhere, doesn't mean its right here. It's not that the black man is 'harder' on personnel in the organization than his white predecessors; it's that he's been told that he's 'special' by those same white leaders, and he truly wants to believe that. And he will, until he isn't of any use to those white leaders anymore, and they toss him under the bus (i.e., Sanchez from Streets & San, among others).
The truth is, they picked him because he had no special allegiance to any of the 'black groups' within the CPD (like the Guardians, or NOBLE), is not especially outspoken about outside forces that continue to wreak havoc upon the Dept., and they believed that he could be easily controlled by City Hall (like the former 1st Deputy was). That's what the Hall looks for when they choose the black FIGUREHEAD.

A simple, safe and effective solution.
With a bit of minor coordination (ala FOP notice) and more importantly cooperation, everyone, yes I mean EVERYONE for the first (send-a-message)period... "CHECK THE CA$H BOX!"
When the City sees the sudden influx of millions of $$ in expenses in a single month,
THIS, initially will get their attention. (Money talks)
Then FOP should give the City notice that EVERY police officer will continue to check the "CA$H" box as they forced our hand until they hire (not likely) or ease the T.D. restrictions.
It's not illegal, unethical and every copper working OT gets a financial boost now to send that message.
IF the City fails to respond... go to "ROUND II, III, IV etc." and request that EVERYONE again checks the CA$H box the next month as well.
I venture to say that Rahm would rather ease the TD restrictions than continue this legitimate message to the City.
Even those 'loyal' Kool-Aide drinkers could join in this honest, earned and legitimate 'message' sent to the department/city that would benefit ALL our brothers/sisters 'on the job' as well as their families.
Threat? Nope, just exercising our contractual rights and sending a message to the dept/city.
Win/win situation.(Earned) CA$H now. 'Family time' later.

Hey Idiot, you can only take a certain amount of comp time every period. After the amount is met you have to take cash.
I will tell you how fucked up shit is. When you call on your day off to see if you got your personal day off you requested 5 months ago was denied. Dont even believe the day swap shit, i wasnt told 3 days before my Personal Day was denied. Fuck all the back stabbing ass gold stars. I bet them motherfuckers got all the time off they wanted. How soon do they forget. All i am doing is answering calls from here on out. I cant even enjoy a hobby a couple of times a year now. I guess my new hobby will be having a heart attack from stress listening to these bullshit calls.
You really can't make this up folks. A young aggressive officer in my district had his time due denied for his daughter's very first birthday. Do you know what he did the very next day? He made two arrests, two impounds, 12 movers and 10 parkers. The bosses will continue to fuck us over as long as we allow them to do so. If we stand united then they will become reasonable. We have the power and authority to make our working conditions better. We are our own worst enemy.

I wish there was a way for us to pull up Wysinger's time due history. I'll bet when he was a blue shirt he put in for more than a few weekends off. How would he feel if he was never able to have gotten any of those.

correct me if im wrong but with the 6 on 3 off schedule we had 121 days off not counting furloughs and with the 4 on 2 off we average 116.6 days off?

I worked 6 days in a row for years. Forget it, never again. Those crappy three day weekends every 6 weeks were definitely not worth it. By time day 6 came around I was beat to shit. No more. Not ever.
4 and 2 has been the best thing to happen to the regular PO since the 1st FOP contract.
019 district whiners should ask their watch commander why there's six tact teams in a district that they obviously don't need. There's tact sgts making arrests for smoking on the cta platform its so slow, just to keep up numbers for his team. Midnights can't get any time, because of manpower. These bosses need to learn how to manage people. How about move some tact guys to midnights to cover shortages or the likes, for a period or two.

Finally, some one who gets it. Stop suggesting to do nothing and start suggesting we do every thing we should. More arrests, especially at the end of the tour. More impounds, felonies, anything to get you into court. Volunteer for last minute jobs to extend a tour. THEN CHECK THE MONEY BOX ON EVERY SLIP YOU GET. It won't take the budget people long to be making their calls to the department heads.
what the hell happened to this job--- we were once like reservoir dogs and we have morphed into dora the explorer--- this is not a good time to be back stabbing each other--- we all knew that time was going to be a problem for periods 6-9--- the only real solution is to put up a bunch of 99 units to continue granting time and most bosses do not like to do that for obvious reasons--- for some cheesedick boss to say no time due he should get a swift kick to the culio--- put those slips in early and when they get denied make sure the sgt can see your empty hands when you go in for check off....
