- Fighting crime is not so simple, and that’s something CBS 2 cameras saw first-hand on Monday, when visiting the scene of one of this past weekend’s shootings.
[...] Ald. Roderick Sawyer (6th) joined [CBS personnel] in visiting the 7800 block of South Champlain Avenue on Monday, three days after Clayton was shot in a drive-by. Immediately, they were met with hostility.
“It ain’t y’all’s business,” one man said.
Sawyer attempted to talk to two young men on the block about what he could do to help the community. One of the two men claimed to be the brother of the victim. The young men cursed Sawyer and called him the “N” word.
Asked what the young men’s reaction said to him, Sawyer said, “Generation lost. I don’t know, I really wish I could say. … All I’m trying to do is help, and I’m getting a roadblock. I’m trying to help. I want to help.”

This is not real conducive, if you know what I mean. Maybe a plastic shovel to scoop up the brains and stuff is about all that is needed in these areas.

If I were in charge the procedure at homicide scenes would be: the beat car would make a real, honest effort to locate good cooperating witnesses. If they are successful, call the Mobile Crime Lab. If not, call the Fire department for a washdown.

This is terrible yet the city gives a million to the cease fire group to do nothing, prevent nothing, and perpetuate the lack of cooperation police already experience surrounding this violence. It may have worked better had they spent a million on a group that would encourage the community to cooperate. THAT would help Chicago crime not ripoff organizations like cease fire or nation of Islam.
