What Could POSSIBLY Go Wrong?
This has corruption and scandal written all over it (WARNING: The Tribune has since moved this story behind their firewall - you might have to register):
- Mayor Rahm Emanuel has spending authority over millions of dollars in private donations left from the NATO summit, giving him a powerful new tool to reward projects and causes he supports, the Tribune has learned.
The private donations were raised by Emanuel allies to help cover the city's share of hosting the May gathering of world leaders in Chicago, and officials have only said that any remaining money — currently as much as $14.9 million — would be spent on undefined NATO "legacy" projects.
But this week, the mayor's office and officials at World Business Chicago, the city's economic-development arm, confirmed that Emanuel will decide how to dole out the money. Emanuel aides and officials at WBC, which Emanuel chairs, will be involved in his decisions.
Gee, $15 million just lying around, to be spent on "legacy projects." Decided by a board that the mayor heads and probably appointed, too.
Well, a humble suggestion there Rahm - seeing as how the Police Department made you look like you knew what you were doing, how about tossing that $15 million our way? We'll find a good home for it.

The $15 million will be divided up amongst the mayors friends via the no-bid contract mechanisms. All you have to do is find a way to stick a "it's for the children" label on it and everything will be just fine and dandy.
Ask yourself how many jobs did the corporations cut in order to free-up that money which allows the mayor to pick and choose? How much of that money are really city tax breaks coming through the laundry machine?

something tells me by the time the election is overin november, so will the money. put this together with the money appropriated for pos, but not spent a bundle. once again the citizens safety is disreguarded. rahm is a dictator, and not a benevolent one. as far as the aldermen are concerned, they are a pimple on the ass of progress.

Am I to understand that the Tribune has been putting its' stories behind a firewall in order to prevent comments? Has the publisher been asked to explain this policy? Does the Sun-Times do this as well? Any friendly reporters out there that might be interested in such a story? One would think that the newspapers would want to encourage commentary and debate. If this is the Tribune's policy, we are on a very dangerous, slippery, slope.
Hey I have bsome ideas for it.
1. Put some in our retirement fund.
2. Hire more cops to make you look good.
3. Put some into new squads. God knows we need them.
4. Hire a new Chief.
This will improve morale and increase prductivity.
Give it to the Police Deparetment.

Rahm says he will use some of the money for scholarships for undocumented (ILLEGAL)immigrants according to WGN news.
Gee want to guess how much of that is going to the new Magie Daley park at a cost of 55 million? Oh well guess none of that is going to the CPPD that made NATO run so smooth.
It's going toward another "rebuild" of the north end of grant park in honor of Maggie Daley. A legend I'm her own mind. Twenty acres of playground that's going to invite even more of the "urban youf" since they have already destroyed the playgrounds that were rebuilt twice in the last decade. Not to mention the piss bums who will take it over at night. All at the starting price of 55 MILLION!!!!!! And anyone with half a pulse and a quarter of a brain knows nothing in Chicago gets done under budget. Millennium park is a screaming example. Hey mayor Rahm-Bo-ning us in the ass!! How about using that to hire more police or shoring up our pensions. With or without a freaking park nobody will remember who Maggie Daley was in ten years anyway. What they will remember is getting mugged while trying to enjoy your new legacy project since there won't be any police left to protect it from the animal.
How about hiring and paying the hardest working city employees police, fire and school teachers. Fuck paying illegals to go to school we're already doing it.

So we use money to send illegals to school in hopes of getting an education and further getting a job. But with no legal status or ssn, how do they plan on getting hired? Seems like spinning wheels. Those being helped from the Dream Act should then have background checks and monitored to see who hire them.then shut down the business who is hiring. Why are we helping people who couldcare less about doing things the right and legal way.
