Aldercreatures, among the most crooked of being, are extorting promises from people NOT to run for political office?
- Inspector General Joe Ferguson has a strained relationship with Mayor Rahm Emanuel, but the two men will apparently not be facing off against each other in the 2015 mayoral election.
Under questioning Thursday at City Council budget hearings, Ferguson promised not to run for any public office that includes the city of Chicago for at least two years after stepping down as inspector general.
Ferguson’s four-year term is due to expire in November 2013. That means if he serves out his term, he would not be eligible to run for mayor in February 2015.
Wasn't it just a few years ago a certain Illinois senator was vowing NOT to run for the presidency? How did that one work out we wonder?
And Fran Spielman says this means "he would not be eligible"? For a statement extorted under duress at a city council meeting? A city council that has declared itself above investigation by the Inspector General while nearly 30 of its members have gone to prison in the past 25 years.
We're pretty sure someone else has a say in the entire process - voters. If they want to hold Ferguson to a "promise" made under duress to a crooked legislative body, that's the voters' lookout. Besides, they voted in a convicted tax-cheat, more than enough thieves and quite a few Outfit-connected underlings. An Inspector General might actually be a step up.

He certainly won't have the backing of the Chicago Machine, as did a "certain senator from Illinois..."

In true Democrat fashion, Ferguson should run against Tiny Dancer anyway and just make up some kind of lie for doing so. Maybe deny ever making such an absurb statment even though it's on transcript via stenographer.
Shit! Promises were made to be broken. Contracts not to be honored. There's no honor amongst thieves. There are very few men of their word around nowadays - fewer yet, if any, in the political arena.
This is political grandstanding meets Kabuki theater. All choreographed by a half-a-man that spent a good portion of his life wearing leotards and prancing around on his tippy-toes.

I'd vote for pretty much anyone except a Daley, a Madigan, a Jackson, an Obama up and comer, and, oh, forget it. Better to just pack up and move out of state. Utah maybe.
With the downsizing of the number of police districts will there alos be a remap?
We need some real police taking the Domestic related calls. They can tell these welfare queens that we will not raise their kids, we don't force kids to go to school, we don't spank their kids for being disrespectful, and we don't evict people, that is the cook county sheriffs job.

Hell.....I didn't know we had to sign a one year non disclosure agreement with the city until the day I retired.......
Hopefully Ferguson will go back to the municipal code, and all that ethics stuff, and find out, or declare as Joe Berrios declared, those ethic ordinances do not apply to elected positions, only to appointed positions.
If Ferguson wants to run for office, he can and should. And no "promise" to the City Council should mean anything for that matter.
And why would the City Council care if he ran for mayor or not? How can they, in a democratic society, tell someone they cannot run for office? Aren't they in effect saying to the populace that you cannot choose this man to be mayor for two years?
This is not a hallmark of a democracy.
But many do believe that in Chicago, we are living in more of a feudalist type society than a democracy.
Chicagoans have called this city "People's Republic of Chicago," "Chicagostan," or "Chiraq"
When you learn that the City Council passes the budget by a score of 49-1 or 50-0, the amount of agreement reminds of Iraq when Saddam Hussein used to "pass" measures unanimously or almost unanimously and call it democracy.
The fact that the City Council fears Ferguson running for mayor is enough argument for me that he should run.
Would such a promise to an august body like the Chicago Crooked Council hold in an election board hearing?
If the People of this city sign the petitions for him to run, should he avoid the will of the People?

I hope.the previous commentors are NOT CPD. I would hate to think anyone as gullinle and naive to think the IG is legit and not just a hoax is patroling our streets. Think people! Why doesn't the IG go after the private contracts worth billions? The IG justs goes after little guys. Just like your IAD never went after Hanhardt.

Good luck with that. Because most who claim to be Independent,are in reality,nothing more than undercover liberals. See last election: Dam near every so called "Independent" voted for Obama. If current polling is accurate, the same's about to happen again. As I once heard Rush Limbaugh say "Most so called Independents are nothing more than weak minded people who lack the moral conviction / courage to take a definitive stand, one way or the other" "So they straddle the fence...claim Independent". Ever notice how few so called "Independents" ever vote Republican? Personally, I'd have more respect for liberals than Independents. At least you know where liberals stand.

The reason the alderthieves would want a promise like this is for self preservation.
If an ex inspector general became mayor the alderthieves career, as they know it now (shenanigans , ethics violations , graft etc.) would come to a screeching halt.

I'm with you, a non-connected, non-criminal independent is the way to go, but the voters here don't seem interested in that sort of thing.
