Aldermanic Runoffs

  • The grandson of Chicago’s first Mayor Daley fell short of an outright victory Tuesday in his bid to represent the family stronghold on the City Council, on a night when more than a third of the aldermanic races appeared headed for runoff elections in six weeks.

A dozen sitting aldermen backed by a political action committee aligned with Mayor Rahm Emanuel couldn’t get the majority vote they needed to avoid April 7 head-to-head contests, with more than 90 percent of the vote counted in all races, according to the Chicago Board of Elections.

And one alderman backed by Chicago Forward, the Emanuel-aligned super PAC, was headed to outright defeat. Ald. Rey Colon, 35th, had 33 percent to 67 percent for challenger Carlos Ramirez-Rosa, with 100 percent of precincts reporting unofficial results.
Call it what you like, but this is a body blow to Rahm's mini-machine. Might it affect national aspirations? He's a money raiser, but his abrasive personality is a huge liability.

Colon's outright defeat is amusing as hell.

The neighborhood is relieved not to have 'former' gang member and dui arrestee Rey Colon out. Maybe a certain real estate baron will have to groom someone else to do his bidding now. Maybe the destruction of our neighborhoods can be re-thought now.

Rahm may be on the democrat presidential ticket next year if Hillary decides not to run. Who would you want for president, Rahm or Uncle Joe?

It's time to take this city back from the thieves.

Rahm took over the machine by force, but forgot to "oil" the parts so it broke down. Can he fix it? Let's hope not.

voters in Chicago are fed up with the political slush funds
raise over $30,000,000 that time could be spent to keep shootings down , schools open
we do not need a president telling us who is good for the black people
Garcia is one for all poor and working class people of Chicago
he will address and attempt to solve the problems facicing Chicago
one who cut 2,000 positions from a police budget is not a friend of the black neighborhood
vote vote vote

If we're lucky, your prediction is correct. Arena and Rahm don't get along because they're both assholes.

GO GARRIDO.

Oh, yeah, he's a real rebel. Go peddle your anti-Garrido bs someplace else.
Anyone who wants to choke Milwaukee Avenue down to one lane of auto traffic is an idiot and needs to be voted out of office immediately. Buh-bye to Arena.

She's hanging on and won't concede she's going to a runoff. Can't forget her with her stupid sign, doing the 'hands up, don't shoot' protest. A big NO to Deb Mell.

Anthony napolitanos numbers keep creeping up, OConnors going down as two precincts came in with Naps winning. About 4% separates them. Support Napolitano, Rham will cut her and not rescue her, since he his other fish to fry!

Hadn't you heard? The Milwaukee Ave. bike lane proposal to cut it down to one lane is dead. Arena announced it at the first aldermanic debates.

This is from the Suntimes questions. I don't know about you but I don't like someone that wants to have separate contracts for police. You might not like Daley but this kid has no concept of what we fight for every day

Kozlar: “In order to reverse this trend we have to slow unfunded rate down, and we do this by creating new city contracts for new employees. What I mean by this is: If you are hired in 2018 for the first time, you will be put into a 401k styled program instead of a traditional pension program.”
