We were told at roll call that the two openings in 018 were "rescinded" on a follow up order. Can't have an idea without its follow-up revised version a few hours later.

Every officer in 005 who doesn't like the 10 hour day now has a way to be heard (and not through untrustworthy "polls"). Put in a PAR form and bid to 022! If a hundred or so officers try to bid out, it will clearly show the lie that it's a good schedule. Please, guys, don't just sit and take it up the rectum (unless your into that sort of thing, not that there's anything wrong with that). You work in 005, damnit! You deal with scary shit every day. You can stand up so easily for yourselves!

Hardly any openings, yet many districts are not even at half strength. 016 for one, (where lots of tax money comes from) is about 100 officers short. Guess those white ministers haven't got the gumption of an African/American minister.

Slightly OT:
According to today's Sun Times Rahm is working feverishly to get a bill passed in Springfield that will allow the city to keep kicking the pension can down the road.
I said from day 1 that Rahm has no intention of honoring the city's pension obligation to our pension funds.
I have yet to see any action from Rahm that would even remotely change my mind about that.
Rahm's an evil asshole and will not rest until he's fucked us out of our rightfully deserved pensions.

The "Spirits of the Air" seem to be indicating that
this is the last vacancy posting until Oct/Nov...

Can't have all you hostages escaping garden spots like
003, 004, 005, 006, 007, 011 and 015 during the
Summer Killing Season.

Remember.
These people and folks have a deep resentment of The Police.
Especially The Police "killin' up all our young black mens."

So?
Stay out of their way and give them "space to destroy" or else
you might get cooked in the ghetto lotto jackpot.

Deputy Al says y'all pussies with alligator arms for not "manning
up" and taking your lawsuit and civil rights litigation licks
for doing Police Work like HE did.

Or so HE says...

Al is an ardent kool-aid drinking "Folklore-ist"
who might be mis-remembering being a protected
person who had his missteps managed and mitigated.

But anyhoo...

Respond safely.
Drop good paper.
Oversee the removal.
Call for a washdown.
Get the fuck out.

*** PAY ATTENTION ***

Dean Angelo sold us down the river!!! Rahm's pension FIX passed the house (Thanks again you lying piece of garbage 19th Ward Rep. Fran Hurley). Go read the bill...I did... it is filed under SB 777. Not only is the City not paying the full amount required ($592 million), but the much talked about "casino proceeds" will only go to pay this reduced amount. DO YOU SEE WHAT RHAM DID!!!??? He said they would use casino money to pay into pensions but then reduced the amount we will get... along with EXTENDING THE AMOUNT OF YEARS TO BRING THE PENSION TO 90% FUNDING!!! Rahm just flim-flammed you cops!!! I watched House floor testimony as Rep. Barbara Flynn Currie (co-sponsor) stated that this bill was formed with the blessing and input of the police and fire unions!!

The next FOP meeting is June 16th at 7PM. I challenge all of you pussy, belly aching, bitches to come to next meeting and tell Dean Angelo how you feel about his cooperation with Rahm.

Maybe some of you greedy VRI coppers can tear yourselves away from the OT trough long enough to notice how your FUTURE FINANCIAL SECURITY just went POOF!!

I swear I'm starting to think its only a small handful that don't like the 10 hr day and both of them insist on constantly finding a nexus between any post and the chance to bash the schedule. You sound like a one man chicken little screaming that the sky is falling. Let it go already. Most that I talk to don't really mind the schedule

How dare you speak of Chicago's Honored Mayor in such a way as to give even the slightest hint that he does not have our best interests at heart.

If you bothered to do a little investigation, you would have found that there is a provision in the proposed bill that would ensure that any officer, who is at least 50yrs of age and has at least 20 years on would be GUARANTEED a pension that would be 125% over the poverty level as listed by the Federal Government. That level currently at a bit over $11,000 for a single individual.

So I think an apology is in order.

/sarcasm

People who worked the ten hr before at tru liked it...but I haven't talked to one person who isn't in a unit that wants that shit. ..I don't know what the fuck u are talking about...maybe it's cool for u cuz u work in 020 or some other useless district...try working a beat car in 007 or 011 for ten hours. Not to mention destroying your family life that's already tenuous at best just being the police...guessing there will be a lot more people hitting medical and a lot more cr#s..

The 10 hour day is hell!!! It is NOT 3 watches. It is 2 watches.
Pros of this= 4 day weekends are great!!

Cons of this= 5 ten hour work weeks are brutal
- at least once a week your 10.5 hour day (yes they are actually 10.5) becomes 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 hour day bcuz of a late arrest. Traffic crash with injuries 5 mins before check off, you have to stay an extra few hours then go home and sleep for a few hours and come right back
- court, if your working mid nights and get out at 7 am and have court that day good luck
- now your thinking "well il just ask my shy to dip out a few hours early bcuz I have court the next day, no big deal", WRONG!!! So do three other guys on your shift and there's only 5 cars up combined in all 3 sectors.
- time off....15% max....per shift...only 2 shifts....do the math
- cars... Permanent cars assigned to beats, you don't like your crown Vic ? Just trade it to someone who does...NOT... Your stuck with it every day for how long? 10+ hours a shift
- PARTNERS..You better like him/her 10+ hours drags
- no 99 units on the afternoon/midnight shift
- lower seniority will work with whoever had a partner off that day, you don't get a regular partner
- on the 2nd watch there are start times of 1530 1730 and 2100 on any given day you can start at any one of those times ( call and ask anyone in 005 district)
- in a 5 day work week there are p.o's in 5 who start at 1730 3 times that week and 2100 twice.... Add court to that equation and here's the kicker....FAMILY. Good luck, it's beyond miserable
- bosses/ sgts...hope you like your sgt, he or she will be on the same DOG as you are so you'll be w them every single day..
- RANDOM...- on a busy night it's not bad at all, staying busy makes the time slip by,
- rain/snow/cold= slow long hours in the squad car with a lot of the time not your desired partner
- if you down your car to be fixed good luck
- if you need an hour on the front, you will be working the desk or w a different partner, your partner will get matched up to someone else's partner becuz of late medical use (no 99 unit)
- getting a late job when you had court previously that day and you still have obligations the next day is pure hell
PEOPLE IN 5 who LIKE the 10.5 hour sched...
- single/no kids with 8+ years on the job
- old timers on day shift with grown children
- crazies who have no life other than the job
PEOPLE IN 5 who DONT LIKE the 10.5 hour sched
-anyone with young children, coaches/ active parents attending child's sporting events.
- very hard/ near impossible to attend school
- those who socialize after work (10.5 at work, getting ready+ travel time 2 hours, sleep 6-8 hours) 4-5 hours a day outside of work not including court or staying late
- lower seniority as far as start times, if 3 ppl call off on 2100 start times 3 ppl will be getting moved from the 1730 start time to 2100
- gym rats
- frequent court attendees
- steady part time jobs

For those of you who want this 10.5 hour schedule just remember the city is not doing this so you can go to Vegas every 5th 6th 7th weekend of the cycle (4 day off cycle) they are doing this to completely remove a watch. More officers out on the streets for longer periods of time. Which dissolves the need for more officers. Being on the streets longer per day means being away from your family for longer periods of time. Days off are denied every single day, if it's not a p day your gambling.
