Where's the Police?

  • The owner and founder of a luxury consignment shop in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood had a pointed question after thousands of dollars worth of handbags were swiped from the store Wednesday: "Where is our police protection?"

Corri McFadden was visibly frustrated in recounting how repeated calls to 911 went unanswered after three men -- two of them dressed as women -- ran off with bags from Louis Vuitton, Celine and Givenchy from the eDrop-Off store on the 2100 block of Halsted Street.

"This is a problem," she said.
It's been a problem ma'am. For years now. We've been pointing it out for a long time. 9-1-1 is notoriously understaffed, given their overtime budget-busters year after year. And as for the "Where is our police protection?" question, people in the affluent neighborhoods have been wondering that for a long time. You just haven't been paying attention.
  • Security cameras recorded the latest incident. Receptionist Mary Kate Farley said she felt uneasy immediately after she buzzed the three men through the locked entry.

"You get a gut feeling the second that happened," she said.
Yeah, just ignore that intuition and sixth-sense. It's racist!
  • The thieves got away, and while there was a noticeable police presence in the area after the incident, McFadden and her staff all claim the response was severely delayed. Further, she said what one officer told her will stick in her mind as long as the crime itself.

"One officer looked me in the eye and said, 'You need to get your conceal and carry,'" she recalled.
That's just bad advice there and whoever gave it ought to take some remedial Academy time. You're going to get this store owner in trouble.

But this last line is a sad commentary on what policing has become:
  • A Chicago police official said the response was based on three facts: it was a retail theft, there were no weapons, and no one was injured.
We'll bet money that when the call came in, it was a robbery-in-progress, because the store owners aren't usually hung up on legal terminology. That should have gotten a decent response. The lack of weapons wasn't verified until later and the owner chased them for a few blocks, which also should have generated a heavy response, too.

But if, as we suspect, there just weren't any officers to send, it being afternoon and either (A) shift time and/or (B) school dismissal time, then guess what? The police aren't coming anytime near soon enough and you better think about investing in a man-trap door, on-scene security, chaining the merchandise down or voting for someone who isn't slashing the police numbers in your neighborhood.

I primarily blame the store owner for lack of good store security. The police cannot be just outside every store, and is it the police's job to protect the stores merchandise.

What the store owner doesn't realize is that some of the district personel were probably being held down in boxes and zones( thank McNutty for that) and that the staffing in her district is critically low due to the overstaffing of Engjewood, West Side districts etc.
Yes it's true Miss Store Owner the ghetto gets the overwhelming majority of our police resources with larger numbers of officers assigned, VRI etc.
Lastly take comfort in the fact that your mayor and police Supt. keep saying that crime is down and that we have enough police officers.

Get your concealed carry?

What if the store owner had it and blew away the looters? (Not going to be politically correct here - just calling a spade a spade, no pun intended)

What if she shot and killed 3 people (or whatever many came into the store)?

What would she be charged with? If she had both a valid FOID and CCW permit?

She shouldn't be charged with anything!

BUT, for the sake of the Bizarro World of Chicago law enforcement (the State's attorney's office - not you guys), would she be facing any charges if she shot them as the robbery was in progress?

I think a lot of people would like to know this. AND please - no wise-ass answers.

On a related note...

BALTIMORE (AP) —

Thursday’s deaths continue a grisly and dramatic uptick in murders across Baltimore that has so far claimed the lives of 38 people. Meanwhile, arrests have plunged: Police are booking fewer than half the number of people they pulled off the streets last year.

“It’s so bad, people are afraid to let their kids outside,” Perrine said. “People wake up with shots through their windows. Police used to sit on every corner, on the top of the block. These days? They’re nowhere.”

West Baltimore residents worry they’ve been abandoned by the officers they once accused of harassing them, leaving some neighborhoods like the Wild West without a lawman around.

“Before it was over-policing. Now there’s no police,” said Donnail “Dreads” Lee, 34, who lives in the Gilmor Homes, the public housing complex where Gray, 25, was chased down. “People feel as though they can do things and get away with it. I see people walking with guns almost every single day, because they know the police aren’t pulling them up like they used to.”

Veronica Edmonds, a 26-year-old mother of seven in the Gilmor Homes, said she wishes the police would return, and focus on violent crime rather than minor drug offenses.

“If they focused more on criminals and left the petty stuff alone, the community would have more respect for police officers,” she said.

It's funny, SCC. The call—once it went to a dispatcher—came across as a robbery just occurred and responding officers immediately made the connection to another call in the same area within the past day.

The officers even remembered that there was a plate number and the dispatcher was able to call up the digits quickly.

Of course, since no one was injured and no offenders were on scene and no major property damage was done, the victim had to call six times over the course of 30 minutes before actual police officers were told about the incident.

this is very typical....the zone 4 dispatchers said the other day that a shoplifter just fled the store and direction of flight! the dispatcher went on to say just see if you can code it and refer them to ARP in other words have them call 311 for a report!

what actually happen a preliminary investigation was conducted per general order and in fact the offender returned nearby the scene where bystander pointed him out as just fleeing the store. the proceeds of the retail theft were recovered and returned to the store, and complaint signed for retail theft!

done on the watch with usually 3-5 cars down!

This happens with Burglaries too. The morons at 911 do their best to make all crimes past tense. Ex. home owner comes home and door is broken open (dude could still be in house)...the incident instead of getting immediate response, job gets 60 minutes to be assigned as having occurred already. Total joke.

The other day I fielded a call from a 90 year old victim who said her garage had been burglarized a second time in 3 months and there may be prints and definitely had foot prints. I instructed her to call 911 who transferred her to 311. She was then ERRONEOUSLY told no ETs can be sent out because the police did not respond. How convenient!

This crap kills crime, causes anti police sentiment, and is just plain wrong.

The Crime In Wrigleyville And Boystown blog states --

"CPD’s year-old policy states that the department will not send officers to handle reported crimes unless an offender is still on-scene; someone has been injured; or major property damage has occurred.

"Instead, those calls are now channeled to the department’s “file your report over the phone” section, which often forces crime victims to sit on hold for extended periods before connecting them with an officer who’s been assigned to desk duty.

"Many people, especially victims of lesser crimes, simply give up before filing a report. And the Chicago Police Department would like to thank them for that. If no report is filed, the crime won’t be counted in their statistical reports. And crime will continue to go “down.”

Off topic -- a big thank you to the racist undercover unit that gave my 83 year old mother and sister a hard time when they were trying to drop off their recycles goods yesterday at Devon and ravenswood in 024th district. I asked my sister and mom why they didn't tell the officers that I was cop and they said they were afraid they would make the situation worse. The cops made my mom and sister pick up the recycle they put neatly next to the full recycle can back in their car. My sister is not from Chicago and my mom. Is very old and only went with to show my sister where to drop off the recycled goods. The officer looked at my mother and sister said, "next time they were going to lock them up". I asked my mom why he would say this to them. She said, that the recucle can was full and so my sister went inside and asked a worker where to put the recycle and the worker directed my mom and sister to put the items next to the can. My mom and sister are law biding citizens not illegals trying to cause trouble at the recycle drop off. Be careful how you treat people because you never know who you come into contact with. I wish they asked for names and star number and I would say something myself to these officers.

So the criteria is now if your living with thugs or are a thug and you hate the police you get immediate service, but if you invest in the city, try to make it attractive, pay huge taxes you get little to no service! Wonder if national media will latch onto this? Look at the merchant in Baltimore the mayor allowed business to be destroyed ordering police to stand down! We don't do anything like that here, but here we don't have the police we need to divert the billions rahm is using for friends and family projects back to the taxpayer areas, fund the police pensions to help boost morale in Cpd! Will people that pay the taxes ever band together the west end of 8,22,16 downtown call the alderman we need to march protest "it's our turn now" demand police protection this is ridiculous already!

The police are part of a multi-layered system intended to provide order and suppress crime. Those who think "the police" are 100% of that system, the only layer that matters, are truly fools.

The definitive words on this were published over TWENTY YEARS AGO by Jeff Snyder in his landmark column, "A Nation of Cowards."

One attractive young lady replied that she couldn't believe a Chicago police officer would tell someone not to vote democratic (no comment on the gun part). Like most persons of a liberal bent she had odd notions. On the other hand, I did get many favorable responses. It was like these urbanites had been hearing one story their whole lives and a light clicked when they heard advice which might lead to actual solutions rather than the usual bilge water ladled out by the democratic party and their ball polishers in the media.

There is a time and place for everything and you should know your audience. Telling some retail shop manager who thinks she high class that she needs a CCL was a dumb idea. That woman is an Obama "anti-gun" voter. I also bet the store has a "ghostbusters" no gun sticker on the front door.

Here's a better idea to blabbing coppers, if you're going to engage in small talk with this woman suggest she follow her instinct and not buzz they mutts into the store. Officer don't deny that you said it if you did, and hope that the Democratic shill double dipper hacks put a CR on you. But don't call Dean at FOP to defend you, call on the 5 guys that speak out at FOP meetings at a regular basis.

As to the comments that you can't shoot people for shoplifting, that is true. However, what starts out as a minor crime can quickly develop into a deadly crime, due to the offenders actions. Better to have the gun and not need it rather than need and not have. How many times have the police been criticized for shooting someone over what starts out as something trivial? You stop someone for a minor offense and end up being attacked and have to use deadly force. The media, politicians and the uninformed majority of our population will cry that a minor offense shouldn't come with a death penalty. They overlook the fact that in the vast majority of deadly force encounters with the police, the police are simply reacting to the actions of the offenders. If the bad guys weren't bad there would be no need for police.

In the real world, let's keep it real::::: Say the cops got there really quickly for this call and saw the offenders running down the street. The moment any interaction occurred between the cops and offenders, it would be a media field day that the bad evil white policeman "assaulted" the poor transgendered african american teen who was simply "trying to make ends meet" by stealing Gucci purses. The officer/s would be stripped of police powers, eventually be suspended with no evidence, with a mere accusation due to him being a white officer. This stuff is so real, its sickening. And even if the suspect/s were arrested, Cook County Sheriff Dart and President Preckwinkle would say what a tragedy to incarcerate a "person of color" for a "non-violent" crime and give them a $100 bond (if that!) and when it went to court despite their 5 page Rap sheet, would be given a six month supervision sentence that would keep their record clean after doing 8 hours fraudulent community service at the Center on Halsted where they go for free services while terrorizing the Lakeview community while shouting into their Free Government cell phone while prancing down the street allowing people several blocks away to hear their "private" phone conversation, 'cause they are so respectful and peaceful, at the same time "expressing" themselves by Vogue-ing on top of a parked car. THIS IS THE NEW NORMAL, GET USED TO IT. This is the reality that the average, common public ignores. All I have to say is these liberal minded stores::: keep your head in the sand, keep faithfully listening to the political and media lies, and ignore the disrespectful nationwide atmosphere of law enforcement and gross lack of law and order, AND keep voting for your personally wealthy Alderman Michele S, Restaurant Owner Tom T, and Former Social Worker James C, and Mayor who all repeatedly year after year refuse to say CPD are understaffed, and refuse to hire any additional police in the districts, despite being down 100 cops per District, except in the areas where no one pays taxes. But lets be real again, even extra 2,000 or 4,000 cops isn't the answer, the criminals are given a free Golden-pass court date after court date and we have our own County Sheriff and Pres. making the case for the poor, innocent prisoners in that they are mentally ill and not accountable at all for their crimes. What more do you need to hear, according to them "non-violent" crimes are given free passes in 2015!!! Ignore the reality, and facts, and reason, and keep voting for these loony tune politicians, and bleeding heart judges at that election box! Oh by the way, keep legalizing every drug known to man, 'cause that will greatly improve society too! Does crime pay in Chicago? Ahhhh, make your own conclusion! But what do I know, I'm just a nobody, keep doing what your doing, cause it seems to be working.

The joke is on all you high tax paying "decent" people.

Everybody that's vested in "The Narrative," has settled in on:

"Make The Police Stop Profiling And Stop Being So Quick
To Protect Themselves From Our Cherished Cultural Displays
So As To Be Sensitive To The Feelings Of The Community
And Make Them Have To Care More For Us That We Care
For Our Selves (or else) Cuz Dat's Dey Job..."

Oh yeah. Almost forgot... "An' shit!"

Pay no attention to the multiple, eye-watering tens
of thousands of slain black and brown persons
reclining in riotous rot in various cemeteries at
the hands of OTHER black and brown persons.

The main reasons Rahm panders and steals your
Police presence from YOU...

"But wait! What you Cops did..."
Oh STFU already!

For the apologist progressives and their race card playing,
poverty and tragedy pimping, ghetto lottery playing, Pity
Party member stooges of protected demographics?

"The Agenda" might come undone if the blue shirted rabble are
allowed to make enough noise for enough time.

What we have is:

A subculture of nodding acquiescence to criminality.
The expectation of the rest of society being somehow
compelled to not just only accept it, but to obscenely
fund it to society's overall detriment.

Society owes it to itself by doing the right thing and letting
this subculture feed on itself until it self extinguishes.

The rest of everybody else should be free to stop fleeing,
stop fearing, stop being shamed into sympathizing and
stop feeling compelled to accept that which is unacceptable.

Society needs to be free to vigorously defend
Itself from "the mob" and it's progressive agents provocateurs.

The result?

Bland, unseasoned, flavorless, joyless
strictly by the RULES, strictly by the
LAW Policing because the bountiful,
delicious and flavorful Policing of 1855 to1995
so offended everybody's tender sensibilities.

En-Muthafuckin'-joy these urban hyenas migrating from
their over-Policed nesting grounds to where The Police
ain't.

Meanwhile, Rahm has decided that you high tax payers
don't mind if he makes one third of your Police protection
disappear and he steals the remaining sizeable fraction
from YOU by consolidating districts and detective areas
and telling McCarthy to deposit them in the no-go zones
then use every scheme and artifice to keep them in these
zones of criminal impunity and away from YOU who pay
the freight.

Rahm knows how much the no-go zones contribute to the
municipal bottom line.

He also knows the staggering amount the no-go zones
drain from the municipal coffers too.

He just figures you "rich" high tax payers won't catch on to
how you're being played and revolt against him as you really
should.

Rest assured, if you do, The Policeman will "stand down"
and give the high tax payers "room" to seek their own
justice.

We know you are NOT "the mob" and will act accordingly.
THIS is what Rahm fears.

10.5 hour days coming to make YOU think that more
Police have magically appeared due to Rahm's beneficence.

More tired coppers and more assholes waving cell phones at
them.

"The Police ARE the problem... Once we fix THEM,
everything else will fall in place."

Viva Hate.

I wish they asked for names and star number and I would say something myself to these officers

Here in Texas, if someone comes into your home, onto your property, your place of business and steals your property, you can shoot him/her in order to defend your property. What is wrong with that? Property has value, and should not be stolen. Ranchers still shot cattle rustlers and horse thieves also. I would not shoot someone over a pack of gum or candy bar, but you get the idea.

SCC, I think the point is about getting a cc is this could happen again and the outcome could be a lot worse next time. Regarding this occurance, if she has her cc, then should would have gone through the class time and they pound into our head as to when and when you are NOT able to use your weapon. The better response by the officer should have been "get your cc, and get proper training that goes with this responsibility until you are comfortable and proficient." - Not a cop, but a cc holder.

While you can't legally use lethal force against a fleeing felon, you are allowed to do so if they attempt to harm someone.

In upholding the grant of qualified immunity, the court simply quoted the language from Tennessee v. Garner: “The standard for the use of deadly force against fleeing suspects was articulated by the Supreme Court in Tennessee v. Garner, 471 U.S. 1 (1985). While noting that ‘the use of deadly force to prevent the escape of all felony suspects, whatever the circumstances, is constitutionally unreasonable,’ the Court held that ‘where the officer has probable cause to believe the suspect poses a threat of serious physical harm, either to the officer or to others, it is not constitutionally unreasonable to prevent escape by using deadly force.’ -- http://www.llrmi.com/articles/legal_update/escaping_felon.shtml

I think concealed, or even open carry is great, but people really should learn to defend themselves barehanded. I would highly suggest studying a martial art like Judo or Jujitsu, but that's not practical for everyone.

The shop owner is clueless.

She runs a high end "pawn shop". People bring her stuff they have no intention of buying back. Third parties might "pawn" (buy) them from the shop owner. If that happens, whoever brought the item in will come back for the cash, less a small commission, unless the shop owner marked the item up to cover her costs. (Depends on how she does it, I've seen both kinds, but I can't afford either. They're way too expensive for me. I prefer going to the thrift shop.)

So, why would she have buzzed 3 hoods in?

People have been killed and maimed during thefts and robberies, without warning in many cases. Any reasonable victim of a theft or robbery should be in fear for their life and physical safety. Any victim of a theft or robbery should be able to shoot the thief or robber. The reason this happens is the people doing this think nothing will happen to them. Our decency and fairness only goes in one direction, and is destroying us.

Whoa, SCC, no one said that the police on scene said "You need to get your conceal and carry. You could have blasted the thieves and it would have been ok". Don't you think that the police on scene gave the advice to get a concealed carry license in the broader sense of the lack of police response and the general idea of protecting oneself in an under-served area? We weren't there for the whole conversation, and we like to say "if you weren't there you don't know what happened". So therefore the police officer's on scene advice was most likely sound.

Ok, I have a bone to pick with one of the posters on this thread.

To the person whose mother and sister had a problem in 024 while trying to recycle....
I'm sorry to hear they were given a hard time, and I applaud their efforts to save the environment by recycling.

However, nothing in that story sounded "racist" to me, so I don't understand what leads you to say they were harrassed by "racist undercover police." Sounds to me like they just encountered some assholes, or it was a bad day, or who knows what the circumstances are. Maybe the alderman has been receiving complaints about trash at that location and it's something they are asked to keep an eye out for. Regardless, they should have been treated with respect.

But I guess some people always need to find a way to call someone racist, and if they can't find a reason to call them racist- hell, just call them racist anyways.

Not true. According to police chief McDrunky we citizens should not have the means to defend ourselves and the police will protect us.

"To the officer who said she needs to get her conceal carry license? What type of an idiot are you? You can't shoot a shop lifter because they are stealing from your store."

The officer did not tell her to shoot the thieves. He was making a recommending for self defense if ever needed. This time they grabbed the bags and left. Next time she might get a beat down first or shot.

Better safe than sorry.

Listen I tell everyone including all my victims that they are allowed to carry and/or own a firearm for their safety. And I am not an idiot, I do not agree with your progressive views officer. When someone need to protect themselves will you be there to save them, I think not. Also since as far as I can remember business owners have been allowed to have a firearm inside their store. Now could she have shot the offenders, NO but next time the circumstances my be life threating and then YES.

Many people rapidly dial for police service, doesn't matter if she called a dozen times. The offenders were in the store for less than 30 seconds and fled, it is now not a priority job! All those calls were after the crime of theft.
Besides, notice the news media, who do you think called them and put on the show? I'm sure there was probably a lot of police bashing. The tape was edited and channel 2 didn't really have her speaking much.

That store owner should most certainly get herself a weapon, learn how to use it, put in a lot of range time and be able to properly protect herself. For all the nay sayers - oh she couldn't shoot the robbers - bullshit - how do we know they didn't come in and tell her they were going to kill her? Remember the 2 off-duty POs - one gets her purse snatched, the other shoots the offender because "they feared for their lives". Remember the key words "I WAS IN FEAR FOR MY LIFE", or "OFFENDER GESTURED AS IF HE HAD A WEAPON" or 'I THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO KILL ME".

This is Corri the store owner who was robbed and cited in this post, I feel that there are a lot of things that were said that are not factual and I would like to just provide some clarification. I am not here to ruffle any feathers or start a debate yet to just simply state my side. I have been a business owner in Chicago for the past 10 years, I like to consider myself someone who is highly in tune to my surrounds and what has been going on in our city for years as it is in a downward spiral. As a business owner I have put several safety perimeters in place throughout the years including buzzer entry, employees break in pairs, never have anyone alone in the store, installed our front door lock up high so you never have to turn your back or bend down to close up in the evening, security cameras, self defense class for my employees taught by a CPD martial artist, equipped employees with The Life Line Security App., Hire off duty CPD for security if there has been any type of neighborhood scare and the list goes on. eDrop-off was robbed in broad daylight on Wednesday, May 27th at 3:56pm by three queens. We DID not buzz in three people, we buzzed in one person that appeared to be a female unknown to us the other two assailants were hiding around the corner and grabbed the door before it closed. The entire incident was 37 seconds, we lost several handbags and we were victims of a robbery. The week before Londo Mondo another retail store was robbed a knife point at 1pm and issues in Lincoln Park have been on the rise.Unfortunate Yes but that is NOT my issue. During this experience it shed light on a much LARGER issue in Chicago that many citizens are unaware of.

When my staff attempted to call 911 for help our call was transferred to 311 several times to make a non-emergency report since the assailants had already fled the scene. It's the city’s way to declassify crimes in which there was no injury to skew Chicago's outrageous crime statistics. It is a HUGE issue that crime has been on the rise month after month and we are being fed false crime stats along with our personal safety being sacrificed as it is in the hands of the 911 dispatcher if they "feel" you need police attention or not. After begging for them to send an officer and a personal call to a fellow officer they showed up at the scene approximately 30 minutes later, losing all valuable time in order to try to nab these thieves who fled in a vehicle that we had a description of.

Every police officer that day shared the exact same sentiment "WE NEED MORE COPS. THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH OF US, WE NEED HELP". They also expressed their frustration with the new dispatching system, but it is out of their control. One officer suggested to me that I should get my concealed carry permit. So the message I walked away with as a business owner and citizen of Chicago is that there are not enough police officers and I should get trained to carry a handgun because in Chicago, you have to protect yourself. Listen, I grew up in Kansas where you have open carry, my husband has his CCL , and I have spent many weekends at the range. I know that CCL is a good idea but in this incident it would not have done anything except land me in a WORLD OF TROUBLE if I was to shoot someone over a handbag. My issue is that Rahm is in over his head and our officers resources are underfunded, they are understaffed, overwhelmed and desperate need to have THEIR POWER in order to patrol and do their jobs efficiently. As a tax payer and business owner who has never needed to call 911 in need of real help it was extremely disheartening to know I was not able to get it and we had to beg for them to send someone.

In Addition to my other comment:

Over the past 2 days I have received calls from 15+ business owners and lost prevention departments who have been robbed by these Queens! Yesterday the head of lost prevention from a makeup store stopped by to show me the scars on his hand from one of the assassinates who literally bit off the top of his hand trying to escape after he apprehended "her" Over the past two days I have worked with some of CPD's finest and I want my message to be heard. The Chicago Police are not the problem! Our issue is Rahm Emanuel (our mayor). Do we need stricter gun laws Rahm, like you came calling for last weekend after there were over 60 shootings over Memorial Day weekend? Absolutely! But NOT what he is calling for, the problem is illegal guns! He needs to throw down laws that are drastic and shake the criminals to the core. I wish we had this guy in charge instead of current leadership: http://www.westernjournalism.com/watch-chicago-mayor-trots-out-tired-liberal-argument-sheriff-schools-him-in-minutes/

So to address some of the statements that were made above in reference to me with such confidence:

"Don't buzz in three hoods. How hard is that? - We didn't buzz in 3 we buzzed in a single person that appeared to be a female.

I love it when Liberals get it stuck to them. I'm sure the owners and most of their customers are Obama and Rahm voters.- I am not a liberal so please don't throw a label on me without know me or what I stand for.

I watched an interview with this woman and she VERY pointedly said, "Rahm, we need more police." =- THANK YOU for watching my interview and taking away the facts of my statements.

I FULLY SUPPORT THE CPD & Commend the work they do. I am thankful that they put their lives on the line for us daily!

What did our high and mighty FOP President have to do with this? That bastard better not have given Rahm a nod. I have a feeling our own leadership is in on this robbery. Doesn't he know there is over a billion dollars in the TIF funds? Why should this money go to United Airlines, Boeing, Willis Tower and the rest? The Pritzkers etc. They used TIF money to redevelop the old Martha Washington Hospital property. Why was that? That land is prime. No need to shovel tax money to developers. But then they return some in the way of campaign contributions, I forgot. The "New Bribery."

Corri, sending the police is not based on our feelings, it's based on written dispatch policy that is given to us from cpd. We are not given discretion to send the police. If I sent over a theft just occurred for dispatch, a supervisor would cancel it and tell me to call you back and tell you to make a report over the phone. 99% of the calls we get have a written policy that we need to follow.

Sorry you had problems, but we have rules to follow, and supervisors here are given a lot of discretion on what they can discipline us for. I'm not getting written up for your purses being taken. Like I said, blame cpd policy, blame the mayor for not hiring police, or maybe we should all just blame the assholes that stole your stuff in the first place...but this is what they want, isn't it? Divide and conquer...

Dear Corri,

I really like your letter and commend you for adding business value to Chicago. But this has been going on for Years and no one especially up on the North side has been bothered by the killings.

Just today a killing in Lakeview and the comments the usual. " This doesn't usually happen here", "it's usually quiet", "There was a killing here but there is no epidemic", blaah, blaah, blaah.

Chicago has been spiraling down the toilet except that the toilet is clogged for years

911 callls being diverted to 311 sometimes to the fire dept. all the time nothing new. For Years!

But your neighbors in Lincoln Park would rather not think about things like that. Yuk! so politically charged. I don't want to get involved attitude. Is my hot soy skim extra pumped 30 buck capuccino ready?

More business owners should think ahead like you and take the precautions you have taken. I am sorry for you having to deal with what goes on with these ridiculous policies. We need more people like you owning businesses, however, these are the reasons business owners and citizens are leaving this city as fast as they can. The discussion about CCL I think is valid. Now Retired... RAHM WE NEED MORE POLICE everywhere

I used to work in the 18th District when we had a lot of police assigned there, the Cabrini-Green projects and watched the Near-North gentrify. We could drive one any shift and pass squad cars at any time and there was always help if you needed it.

Now on the rare occasion I go down to my old stomping grounds, like t the semi-annual reunions I could drive for hours and never see a CPD car.

The local citizens allowed this to happen, by voting for Rahm, letting him bring in McHatchetman and not taking notice of what was going on around them.

The same has gone on with the rest of the country and it is time to take it back.

Maybe the store owner, and other store owners in that area could try something like this. Have some signs printed and displayed on your front door that say "FOR THE SAFETY OR OUR EMPLOYEES AND CUSTOMERS CERTAIN MEMBERS OF OUR STAFF HAVE CONCEALED CARRY WEAPONS PERMITS". Those signs should be small and discrete.

Next to them should be some loud large signs with that business owners own words, "RAHM, WE NEED MORE POLICE!". Those signs up and down the street will probably get you a visit from the CAPS Sergeant. Tell the Sergeant that you are the only police you have seen and you want to see the Commander and have the DC bring the Daily Work Sheets.

There was a time when the taxpayers got some service in this city. We responded to calls like this and at least being there, in uniform, filling out a report, some diplomatic conversation, sending a flash message gave victims some sense that we were worth our pay. And when they got a follow up phone call or visit from a Detective, that was service.

As an Old Timer once said, "90% of this job is just showing up."

Now Retired... RAHM, WE NEED MORE POLICE everywhere

Good Luck and Stay Safe to that business owner.

If she really wants to shake up Rahm and McHatchetman she should organize all her friends and business neighbors into Concealed Carry Permit class. I am sure the friendly folks at Article II Gun Store and Range would help you out. You can hold the classroom part here and the shooting part there.

Just let the media get hold of that story.

One more thing. Even retired, I am always discretely armed. Whenever I pull into a parking lot or walk into any store I am still scanning everyone and everything. This businesswoman, and every business in this town might realize that they have been stripped of their police protection because of what Rahm, the Daley Crime Family and unethical lawyers have done to the CPD. The small business community might do what they can in any way to try to encourage police officers and their families to patronize their businesses.
