Ric Flair moves out, a new "4-times-merit" boss is brought in, he brings in his people, and suddenly everyone wants out:
- The new tact lt. in 007 is making a great impression. Two whole teams including the sergeants are putting in to-forms to go back to the watch. The Watson crew is not very popular. Just wanted to get this out there before E.O. could spin it that he "dumped " them because there is no way his ego will be able to process this. The one team leads the city in UUW arrests and was told that's not good enough ...... " you need to hit more singles".
- 2 tact teams in 007 all put in to-forms to go back to the watch. New bosses are not working out...
- To the hard working officer who so badly wants to work tact. Come to the 7th district because there are numerous tact and sgt positions available. No one is interested in working tact in 007. See you soon.
Twenty officers and two sergeants all wanting out at the same time in one of the busiest districts in the city, an area that regularly leads the homicide count for the past decade. This mass exodus would appear to be what we call a "clue" in these parts. Now, we're aware tact is a voluntary assignment and most of the positions are filled by invite only.
But it's rather telling that movement of this size, and all at one time, all under a new regime would be nodded at by downtown without any sort of fallout. It's not like shootings are down in Englewood.

The new District Intelligence Officer logged in 83 hours of overtime, and the new Tact Lt. A whopping 101 hours of overtime. The best is I barely have seen anyone them since they have been here. Must be nice...

A shining example of what doesn't work yet he just instituted 5 fixed posts manned 24/7. It's a joke. This once great place for the working police is now dead and there is no one to blame, but this overprometed,quadruple merit hack who has no pulse on what's going on. Say goodbye to all your senior tact guys who knew who was who and say hello to all your 2yr wonders who may have 6 months of actual patrol experience. Well I find that Larry Watson is the true problem in 007 hard to believe. Mainly in 005 everybody on tact, even the tact Lt. loved him. Even though all the complaints in 005 (10 hour day, time due etc.) 005 district tact was "Living the Dream" during his tenure. Maybe the real problem in 007 is that maybe 007 district tact is not as diverse as it should be. I'm not a numbers guys but I can bet the tact teams are 70% White and that's being modest in my opinion. Maybe there are some minority officers on tact but I have yet to see them. But this is how all district tact teams are starting to look the same all over the city with the 004 district leading the way 0 black officers on tact since a blk female tact sgt left. #blackofficersontactmatters
Tac in 007 and 020 need to be addressed differently. If your in 007,011,005,003 etc no matter if your in a beat car or on a tac team you work in a hell hole day in and day out... You should be taken care of and given a little room to breath when you need it.. This goes for the guys on the watch also. If u work in 020 or 016 or 017 etc on tac then u an play the Mickey mouse games all u want.... Your working tac in 020, it's almost as good as it gets... I think it's hilarious to hear tac guys from 020,017,016,018 complain about how much this job sucks... Please, it's paradise where you work... No matter who the boss is, they don't ride in the car with you. Good for the guys in 007.. What are they gonna do to punish them??? Dump them to 007?? Whoops
Sgt TR is one of the best and smartest tact sgts I've come across in my career. In fact, he's about the only tact sgt I'd actually work for. For a tact Lt to come in and within days start making ultamatums without even taking a little time to observe how your guys work is pathetic and the sign of a piss poor supervisor. For Commander LW and his XO to pick a winner like this speaks volumes about their own levels of competency. Good for these 17 coppers and 2 sgts for making a stand together. Coppers talk a big game, but hardly ever actually follow through when it comes to stuff like this. And Lt EO? Good luck with your new crop of 2 year wonders. Let's see how that goes.

back in the mid-70's I worked tac in 020. The old sgt retired and was replaced by a temp-sgt. After a lot of interaction with the temp-sgt, the team (6 guys) went in D/C and asked to go back to the watch. The temp-sgt was called in, agains our wishes because we didn't want to come between him and his tac sgt. After airing our differences, the temp-sgt said either they go or I go. Commander Richard McGinnis then waved good-bye to the temp-sgt.

Good afternoon. You are a giant coward and a liar. I will not comment on how or why these men came about their decision to go back to the watch as that is none of my business. It would be smart to just ignore this comment but I feel the need to set the record straight. The sergeants in question ALWAYS worked their full tour and the officers would go through the ( chain of command) sergeant for time off. Was I close with people on the teams, of course. How could I work in a district for 17 years and not form friendships with the people I worked with. I wil say that aside from one or two of those people who I have been friends with for a decade or more I have only been out socially with most of them a handful of times. To actually qualify as someone's drinking buddy you would probably need to be able to get out of the house more than two or three times a month. Also, all of these individuals were in place when I inherited the team. No one had to "kiss my ass" for anything.
To address the rest of this moronic rant, I would like to say I would gladly work with any of the officers or sergeants again. They are all great police officers and even more importantly they are great people. I hold no grudge against anyone, I loved my time in Englewood.
I do however think the people that talk smack on here anonymously are the most vile scum in the department. You have a beef with me? Don't hide behind this electronic bathroom wall. Come find me to talk or at least be man enough to post your own name.

Actually I think that as far as moral goes it's much better now here in 007. No more worrying about what type of mood Bubblehead will be in on a daily basis. He was the problem around here. Regular po's bring in better arrests then tac, there are a few members who earned tac, mainly the short ethics ones. The sons of supervisors or relatives while regular po's were jokes. I know for a fact that in 007 the patrol have better arrests and helped outside units without ego. It's sad how tac is dished to 1.6 year wonders. I'm making more money in vri, cta, court, etc...without force arrests or bs over my head. Pick your battles. Ducking does not secure employment.
What's the real issue here is that E.O. Worked in SOS . Young guys pay attention this is the TRUth!! SOS stood for sons of supervisors and with the exception of a few were not all that and a bag of chips!! The real deal Holyfield was TRU on Pershing. Terminating a foot chase because dude runs into 009?

VRE is technically voluntary. You can' "make" anyone work it. All you can do is dump them, which is what they want.

Yes clown? 007 is not 005. A million petty arrest isn't solving shit. Just look at the numbers. And 005 guns were all so called "turn ins" that were really trades for cars and dope. All that's gonna get you is jammed up. 007 leads the city in guns with actual arrests. Period.

Worked for EO several times and have nothing bad to say about the man. He can be a bit much at times but he means well and is one of the best "bosses" I've ever worked for. I've never worked for a person who cared about his guys more. The south side can't handle your style of policing

In the burbs... same sandwich. They have to nudge people in the shoulder and give 'em a wink and nod to encourage them to put in. Basically nobody is interested. And nobody has been interested the last two times they asked people to put in. The team used to be a couple guys. They expanded it and with that expansion came a drop in quality and an increase in politics...and since then they can't get people to put in without being their friend and telling them about their bright future in the department...yep. I'll sit this one out. I don't think I have what it takes.

that is the most telling and accurate statement about tact teams. maybe the 007 tact teams, those who are "invited" to the tact team, are being told things like, "you have to stay the whole tour," or "you have to transport your own prisoners," are upset by being told that despite their overinflated sense of privilege and bloated worth to the department, they are still 9161, and aren't really that special. as far as leading the city in UUW arrests? you could throw a stone into a crowd in 007 and find someone with a pistol. finding a uuw arrest is so commonplace, they barely give honorable mentions for them in 007. most uuw arrests? but 007 still has some of the highest crime rates in the city? not really a bragging point then is it?
the tact team is privileged. they don't have to chase the radio. it's just a job. do it or go back to the watch. it's a paramilitary organization. do your job. the mass exodus could be bad management, or it could be a bunch of crybabies being told to do something a different way, and they don't feel like they have to do it that way.
Most people know you don't have to be on tact to be a hard worker, and there are people on the watch whose numbers would match or exceed those on tact, while chasing the radio at the same time.
some have taken all 3, as we all know - but if capt. is not a testable, civil-service rank, then it's not really ' merit'
In the sense of "using the official City of Chicago Merit Criteria", of course you are correct.
In the sense of merit as an ironic indicator, by people familiar with Chicago corruption, of lack-of-merit clout babies, someone who got three merit promotions and then was promoted to captain, they definitely have four merit promotions.

Elite LOL "the kids are alright" that's it that's all! Elite was back in the day the old SOG and of course Gangs North,South,West they were the "real deal" police! Most Vietnam and Korea vets, knew what the police were and wanted to continue tradition of CPD!Men were Men! Worked for Lt. EO and all I can say is that he is a worker, takes care of his people, and likes people who are workers. He really always looked out for his people that looked out for him. Hmmmm lets see we were up about 5 shootings and a couple murders when they got here. Now we are up 60 something shootings and seven murders. Yeah, it's the previous administration's fault, yeah thats it. No wait, it's the former tact lieutenant's fault. He is using mind control to suppress activity and drive the residents to violence. One person gets dumped/leaves, one person comes up. Its's the tact boy cycle. You find one fucking stroke to replace another or in this case two teams of strokes.
