Another $62 Million Pissed Away

  • Ending a costly court fight that City Hall blundered into, Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s administration has paid more than $62 million to settle a dispute with the private operators of four city-owned parking garages downtown, records show.

The payment last month ended City Hall’s long and unsuccessful legal fight against claims from investors in the four privately operated garages under Millennium Park and Grant Park.

The dispute dates back six years. That’s when aides to former Mayor Richard M. Daley mistakenly approved a parking garage in the new Aqua building at 225 N. Columbus Dr.
Rahmn of course, exacerbated the problem by appealing the initial award, despite the contract that specifically said how disputes were to be mediated...kind of like the Second Amendment fights that the city lost over and over and over....and kept appealing and losing.

It's almost like the city wants to make plaintiff attorneys rich.

Thanks again Daley! But city hall will continue to honor his name as though he was some great man. When will people start becoming outraged by what he did. The Daley name should never be displayed in Chicago.

The city built those garages with our tax dollars. Then they went behind construction schedule and it was 90% complete. Then the city decided to sell the garages to private companies. The private companies even entered into an agreement with the city that the city won't build any more garages near that area.

All of this is cronyism at it's finest. But ask any of the parties involed- the alderman, mayor Daley and now mayor Emanuel and the involved private investors. All parties will tell you this is legit and nothing wrong happened.

In the real world, no one would offer such a deal to anyone. But this is crony capitalism. Insiders sell public asset for pennies on the dollar and then they claim it benefits us.

That payout didn't quite make the splash that a police payout makes. I wonder why.

Near the bottom of the linked article is, of course, the cherry on the cake: the Aqua parking garage was represented by . . . . none other than mayor daley's brother michael daley! Thanks for coming to the show! nothing else to see! no nepotism here! after taking that ethics exam, nothing unethical here! move along ! the exit is on the left!

Negotiate after Rahm has made the required payment to our pension fund. Otherwise, we are literally gambling on our futures.

"Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s administration has paid more than $62 million to settle a dispute with the private operators of four city-owned parking garages downtown..."

Is there something wrong with me, or do I get the impression that there is some huge financial bleed-out like this EVERY SINGLE DAY?

Seems like 62 million would of helped our pension fund. Or the Millions spent on Millennium Park, Divvy, Bike Lanes, Maggie Daley Park, & Depaul. Seems pretty effortless ~ to find millions ... stop spending millions on useless shit. Fyi, Divvy is a failure and run primarily with tax dollars
