Well This is Something

The FOP actually discovering some form of testicles (click for a larger image):

Time to make Rahm feel some pain. One suggestion for the FOP though:
  • You need to have a penalty for anyone working these days. Otherwise, some jerks are going to sign up for it and just say, "Screw everyone else - I'm getting mine."
Therefore, to put some teeth in there with your newly-found nuts, we respectfully suggest anyone found to be working this day will be expelled from the bargaining unit and denied the benefits of the bargaining unit.

No cowering behind, "Well, we can't make them not sign up." That's going to be Rahm's hope. Sure you can. How do you think the dems and repubs maintain party discipline? Denying the benefits of their party - committees, chairmanships, fundraising, election support. Crack the whip or Rahm is going to walk all over you and the membership, which already doubts where you stand, will de-legitimize the entire organization.

Get the PBPA behind this, too.

Not a bad idea
I for one stopped working all the ot opportunities and learned to live with in my means but I understand everyone situation is different however it would be a great show of unity if we would all stand together
Stay safe stay fetal and stay alive!!

Kicked out of the union for making OT? Won't happen. I brought the same thing up to Bella and it was quickly dismissed. They are not going to go after the members. Some people need the money. Getting officers to band together on anything is impossible.

They can suggest but I doubt the City will feel any pain at all.

Ok like I said whenever there is an organized effort in unison to not work a certain day or time frame I'll be in. So to all you malcontents advocating stay fetal put your money where your mouth is. Sad part is many of you won't. You will work and try to justify it anyway possible. So I ask the others that will refuse to work those days call out those that do. Name them on here or call them out at work.

I was talking to one of the EMT's daughters. She was p----ed. Turns out none of them have body armor yet. She is trying to get her Mom to quit working certain neighborhoods. She thought it happened in the North Minneapolis, which is bad for Minnesota, but worlds better than Englewood or Austin.

Huh?

Dean must've found his balls on the top shelf of Rahm's hall closet...

Abiding by a very one-sided "Gentleman's Agreement" to not fight back
against Rahm while he porch-rapes the membership after making promises
of future rewards to Dean for leading the membership astray.

Men have had their scalps peeled and lifted asunder for lesser outrages
than the ones Dean Angelo has let Rahm Emanuel slide with...

No more proving how "restrained" we are by taking city hall punches.

It's way past time we flexed our muscles and hit back. HARD!

Dean is intentionally late with this.

This should have been put out for the 4th of July.
There's always next year.

Labor Day?

Bud Billiken Day would have been better.

Pity...
Doctuh Dean doesn't have the barely suppressed vicious
streak of an old ghetto cop.

PRESENCE.

The ability to WALK into any room and have m/fers get REALLY concerned
because they can sense you're not there as a member
of the entertainment committee.

No nonsense... Strictly business.
It looks as if rubbing up against you would be extremely unpleasant.

People want Policemen to be inoffensive, non-threatening and look as
happily butt-hurt as the Cubs new mascot.

It's "concerning" when those front doors swing open
and four hard soled size 12 leather boondocker boots
push off and 12+ feet and 500+ pounds of Po-leece are
on-scene to set things right.

Doctuh Dean should've had his Po-leece face on a long time ago.

That is, if he ever had one...

The only down side, if you're not out of town on the Med., a Sgt. may do a check so you have be home. I'm going to be out of town when I call the medical section and unit, catch me if you can. How about a thread about the lack of equipment SCC? Maybe one of our investigative reporters will steal another idea from you. Our district is down close to 20 cars, sitting in the station after roll call waiting for a car. I'm hearing it is the same all across the city. I saw something interesting last week. There was an incident where the swat team was called. It took a while for most of them to get there and I realized the reason was because they were driving their personal cars to the scene. Excuse me for being a little clueless, but why does the swat team not have cars? With all the attacks going on all across the country and world, we don't give cars to the only guys who can deal with people armed with rifles? It's another disaster waiting to happen. But I guess as long as the clouted people has take home cars it's ok. Cause you know, it's essential that narcotics, vice and asset forfeiture have take homes cause you never know if there will be an emergency UC buy or a rub and tug joint that needs to be taken down immediately.

This will not work. I do support the idea of standing together as a union. But to give the City months notice that this is our plan. Only gives the more time to put out an order stating all time due denied for Labor Day weekend. Then days off will be cancelled. The City will make sure of this.
Maybe this is how the plan should have gone down.'

1. Members who sign up for the OT programs would refrain from doing so.
2. All members who never sign up or dont want to ever work OT again, put in for all the days you can. Then on the day scheduled to work call off. You will get suspended for three months , but you dont care because you never do OT anyways.

This is how the plan probably will go down.
1.Many wont put in for any OT , thus giving people who can never get it the chance to finally make some overtime. they will sign up and the winner is the City, they still get he manpower , but saved money by paying the officers in a lower pay grade.

If the PBPA gets on board with this, then hopefully the supervisors won't sign up. More importantly, the supervisors can "forget" to approve any sign ups for special during that timeframe by FOP members. If the requests don't get approved, they won't get assigned to work. I know, an exempt can always approve them. There's a deadline for these to get approved and my guess is that the dipshits running this dept won't realize what's going on until it's too late.

Wow! Someone at the Bargaining Unit has an idea. Remember this is not a union, it is a bargaining unit. This bargaining unit does not carry the right to strike. They have these initiatives written into our contract. This bargaining unit put an end date on a retirement benefit that will hurt hundreds of retirees who will receive a small annuity because of the ass kissers at the top who put signing a contract quickly for Rhamy at the time of an election to show they were in line.

I'm not saying this is not a good idea but.....why didn't you brainiacs make this call before members signed up a month ago and insured that they would be available or assigned. Regular people who aren't making captains pay or higher can't afford to be suspended from this program for three month's because Deano decided to actually do something.

You are shaming those who actually get these jobs by seniority. Those who are first to shame are those who NEVER work these initiatives. They are the ones who have to be at the neighborhood bar everyday or their photo will be put on the side of a beer bottle. Those who claim in no uncertain terms I don't work that crap because I don't need the money. Those who claim my time off is more important to me as they spend their off time playing that stupid fucking poke Mon game looking for husbands and or liquor. Those who collect model trains and wear a conductor's hat with rhinestones on it a nd scream choooo chooooo as the still reside in their parents basements.

This bargaining unit helped get these initiatives. I will honor the request I f you give the membership more time not to sign up I instead of getting us suspended from the program for three months unless you have alternative work I can get for that time.

Dean you demonstrate an absolute lack of planning and a disregard for those who actually work these jobs because the need to. I would love to enjoy my family and friends more often on my days off. But I planned to sacrifice that time off for the opportunity of earning extra to support them and take care of their and My obligations.

I could afford to miss a day.....no problem.....but 12 to 15 days x 1.5 (three month suspension from the program ) which th e bargaining unit agreed to.....not so much.

Call me when you and the holiday and weekends off buddies are will to give up that much and I'm in. Until then shame yourself for not thinking this one through.

I go on furlough the period after and will be going on vacation with my family. I'll be sure to make as much as I can so we can all enjoy our trip to the fullest. Instead of kicking out anyone who works special or any other type of off duty work, just drop their union status to that of a PPO. PPO's don't get full benefits until, what, 12 months on the job? If a copper is found to have worked during this time period, cut back their union benefits for a while.

Sounds like somebody needs 4 new tires on their car they leave in the vri parking lot just about what that day at VRI). You are a jagoff not for choosing to work that day- you are a jagoff because you took pleasure in saying "I don't like coppers around here" AND "... Yeah right....officers are sooo over their heads with their lifestyles, and GREEDY, this will NEVER happen. No one sticks together. 20 years on, divorced, HUGE mortgage, HUGE maximum child support, braces for kids .Etc.. and I don't work ANY of it. If I can do it, anyone can. Just be responsible. But it won't happen, not even for a week, pretty pathetic.....it's a shame, "they" would realize how important we really are in a week or two. But whatever, 5 long years to go to leave this nightmare department, city, the peopele in it, it's criminal politicians and media, and law enforcement in general.

If you can't set aside 4 days, out of 365, to show some camaraderie with the vast majority of your fellow officers, you have the wrong career.
If you refuse to support your brothers and sisters, don't complain when they dont support you.
You may want to discuss working these days with your regular partners. They my prefer to have back-up available, when shit hits the fan, while they are working with you.

It can begin with this and slowly over time increase to other things, men and women in blue you need to get on board and start to stand together, we are not the second class citizens that the politicians treat us like. There is strength in numbers and getting loud gets attention as we have all seen as demonstrated by others.

The city does what they want and will hire when they want. They don't care about cops and this few days of no ot will accomplish nothing. That being said anyone who does sign up on these days should be known as a SCAB and names posted on district bulletin boards

Nobody at your job likes you. Nobody on the department likes you. If you think you are setting a good example for your kids/family let me tell you somthing, when they get older and act like you, no one will like them either.

Believe me officers, step back and take a look at yoursleves. Ive worked with guys who were jags and then their kids get on and they are jagoffs too. It is not just if they become Police either. When you are a stroke, people who know you will prejudge your kid when attending schools, little league etc. It aint right, but we all know it happens.

REMEMBER THAT.

Get on boad for once. Try it, it will make you malcontents feel good. You might even live a better life instead of being such a sourpuss, sad sack, debbie downer or whatever other nickname we call you behind your back.

I love the idea — but the name calling on this site or threatening to take away benefits goes too far. I work as often as anyone and it's not about living outside my means or my great desire to work all of my days off. I have three kids in catholic high schools — that's $35,000 per year, tact on mortgage payment (modest 3-bedroom), and that more than half of my base salary with just two bills.

We need honest negotiations by our union officials, the fact that most police officers work overtime (all of the initiatives listed) indicates that our base salaries are simply insufficient for the market we live in. Use the amount of hours worked OT in negations to increase our salaries. FOP only brings up OT hours and manpower because they realize if the city hires 1000 more officers, that's 1000 members paying duties.

Why does FOP Union officials get an increase in pay (captain's pay) or sergeant associations leaders get a stipend per month? The first response given is that they do not work any OT initiatives. That proves the point that our salaries are too weak to live in our market and they must subsidize their salaries with our dues because the salaries that they bargained for are too weak. If they made their civil service base salaries, the negations would be better planned and managed.

How about if you do not work and attend the FOP event, FOP will auction off the amount of one catholic tuition amount $12,500 every half hour? FOP can pay directly to the school.

This was tried 20 yrs ago, including pickets! At that time the Union wanted Time and a Half for CTA Special, which was out of the old Kraft Bldg. on Pehstigo Ct.. The picketing lasted a couple of days, and everyone showed up for work. As long as coppers work the "Initiatives" there is No Need to hire. Consider that every new cop costs the city well over $1 Million dollars, long term. If that new hire stays to retire, it easily costs the City over $2 Million if he/she retires healthy and lives a long full life. So WHY HIRE WHEN YOU CAN USE EXISTING PERSONNEL AND JUST BURN THEM OUT AT TIME AND A HALF? Between divorces and parochial school tuition, way too many coppers have to work those Initiatives and CTA. Mortgages are still upside down, and the Church is still charging $12-to $14,000 a year to educate your kids, because you cannot send your kid to most Chicago Public Schools. So, it looks good on paper, but I fear it will be ignored. After all is said and done, especially in the current environment; EVERY COPPER IS ON HIS/HER OWN! Now starting a list of judges to vote out by blocking their Retention, now that is a whole other topic and it should be undertaken. If the Machine felt we wielded that much Power, well that could help our standing. Meanwhile: Stay Fetal, Stay Fetal, remember Rahm's "Chicago Values. Baby"G"

Would be great, if we can actually stick together on this one. For those who ask what does doing this prove? Well... 1.) it proves to the public that we are severely understaffed. 2.) For those that think that these protests and blm hasn't changed a thing, go look a few posts down about how we will soon be unable to un holster our gun unless death of great bodily harm is imminent. 3.) it shows the politicians that we are united. 4.) The city will have a harder time at the negotiation table when it comes to our upcoming contract.

I would recommend that the Lodge just suspend (1 month)any members who believes they can cash in and actually think there will be NO repercussions.

One CR# will clean out an officer who has to hire a lawyer with out the backing of FOP.

If the children think that they can eat all the candy in the dish then you take the candy away, and they will still have to pay fair share on union due also.

Please save the story about how you waste your money and your family will starve in the streets your only fooling yourself with your selfishness.

I also recommend that all those FOP board member be required to actually go to those roll call and document which members decided to be a SCAB,

and if DEAN was not going to run for a second term he would consider expelling members from FOP lodge 7 who actually hurt the lodge in going to work.

Count me in its only a few hundred the price of a BEARS game.

And the above post is the problem. What was the above doing before VRI existed? It continues to boggle the mind how individuals who take a job knowing full well what the base salary is can spend their way into financial hardship. I believe the word most useful here is BUDGET...yeah that's it..In the private sector they get a BONUS which also shouldn't be factored into your BUDGET because you shouldn't always count on getting one! The city continually shafts us with crumbs of O.T. and retro $ once a contract gets settled. They know full well that coppers don't play the long game and only concentrate on short term monies. If we stuck together and conducted some sort of action our pension (long game) wouldn't be a concern. And moving forward they'd be more careful how they treated us.!

But I know the cries of "but I have kids!" ... "But I have bills!" Will be heard at every roll call. Again, you knew what and how much $$ this job paid when you signed up. What none of us knew is just how badly we'd end up being treated and how in jeopardy our job, freedom, and retirement would be affected. Bite the bullet for a weekend and show the city that we can play the long game to!!

There you go. This is the "Me" generation for you. Never given a dime to charity. Never shoveled his neighbors walk. Never, EVER, thought about the greater good.

Anyone, ANYONE can access the sheets for any additional days you want to work. That's how you can check if you were overlooked on your seniority. I agree FOP should step it up, but I am not sure they can or will. It will be up to you.

When you find out someone has worked his day off, they should be dead to you. No more forgiveness. Forgiveness is for the weak and the taken advantage of. This scab is TAKING money from YOUR family by working these side shifts on this weekend - actually that includes all VRI, but that's for another day. They are taking money from you by weakening your bargaining power if you didn't notice.

Anyone that works these days should be forever shunned. The Department could cancel days off, but it would not make up the difference. That's how big overtime is. That's how undermanned we are. That's how dangerous it is for us. That's how little the politicians care about your family.

It cost way less money to bury a copper than to hire enough to keep them and the citizens safe.

LET'S DO IT!!!!!!!! If you really care about your family, your career and want to send a message, don't work that weekend. We need to show that we are united, we need to let the mayor and the BLM know that we are tired of the way we are being treated, we need to send a message that if they hate us so much, then they won't have us in their neighborhood when the bodies hit the floor... But if there are some coppers using the excuse "I'm doing this for my family I need money", you just don't care what is happening to all the officers around the country, just think that one day can be you and you are going to wish that your fellow officers unite to protest. Don't be a fool and selfish. What's a weekend of no OT, VRI, etc.. ? It's nothing, you still have the entire year to work OT, VRI..... LET'S DO IT!!!

They're not asking you you to stop VRI and Special for good. It's three days to send a message. Let them see just how short handed we are and possibly cause them to hire more police officers. That would mean better seniority more promotions etc. it's one weekend. If they cancel days off so be it. Then you have to work and make OT. Even better.

First off let me say that I am not a LEO but I have been reading this blog for several years because I care about my family and we need CPD. I have read many complaints about the union not doing anything, about the union leadership getting their own and the hell with everyone else. Now that the union is actually proposing something that has the possibility of getting the city's attention I see coppers saying that they want the extra money and that they will work.
This is amazing to me as I see CPD supporting each other on the street every day. You have each others backs and protect each other because your job is dangerous. But you won't give up a few days of OT to potentially give yourselves a huge bargaining chip for negotiations? Are some of you so blind or greedy that you cannot see how this can only help all of you. How can you be willing to protect your brothers and sisters in blue with your lives but not be willing to give up a couple of days of OT? I really don't get it, this is only one holiday weekend!

As a civilian I have a vested interest in seeing each of you happy and working. You keep my family and I safe from the scum on our streets and we need you. But when you don't stick together in your bargaining there will be fewer and fewer of you to keep us safer. The politicians will continue their war of attrition, they will continue to attack your actions without regard for your safety. The politicians don't want you because you remind them that their policies are failing.

Please stick together. Please show unity. Please make the politicians see that we need more police. Please make the politicians see that you won't take their abuse any longer. Make them feel the pain as that is what they understand. And the same goes for the lawless communities that always demand more police but then attack your every action. Make them appreciate you when they have to do without.

Thank you for all you do, and I can only hope that you are successful in your negotiations. We the law abiding citizens really do appreciate all of you!

So until someone if going to pay my bills and take care of my family, I sure in the hell are gonna get mine while I can.

7/23/2016 12:29:00 AM

bad idea. it wont work and we will look weak......just vote for Trump and convince others to do so. we have to ride out the storm....there are coppers that have to work those days and it would be safer with those extra bodies . Maybe Rahm told Dean to do this so the city could save money....heard they couldnt even pay 5 e.ts...i dont work o.t. and always take time.....this is too little too late. What happened to Mike Shields? Didnt he put signs up about manpower shortage and mention things were rigged.....Dean is in bed with Rahm.....this is like the tattoo thing....take and give back.....same place we started.......bring back the shorts.....why can some wear shorts and others cant.....same temperature outside......it can be a great job....but for now, Eat My Shorts!

If not for VRI the city would be forced to hire-back officers from districts and units. Every unit and district runs on dangerously low man-power and VRI only sends units to select areas. By dismantling VRI, OT would be available across the city right were you work. The city should be held accountable by maintaining the minimum man-power numbers per watch and district/unit on a daily basis. If the city can't responsibly man units they can pay OT or hire more police. They have gotten away with this game for too long!
I will lean toward solidarity on this weekend but would like to know the FOP's angle. What is this leading up to?
Treacherous waters are ahead of us, we need to stay united in these tough times. I'm afraid, without proper understanding many will choice to work and cause a division of peers.

FOP should find a way to publish a list of overtime whores. Like this asshat. I bet he is the first to cry when he is denied something and would step over another officer for OT. He must be a pleasure in his unit. In the past, many officers made sacrifices to improve conditions for street officers. With the teachers union, if you worked they punished you. Everyone was held accountable for job actions.

The point is that we have been hung out to dry by our city and our department. Our manpower is at DANGEROUSLY LOW levels. It's a SAFETY ISSUE to be this undermanned. We are all in DANGER every day because this city refuses to hire enough police to actually handle the volume of calls in a safe and timely manner. Police are under attack across the country, including here. How you feel about dude on the street or the coppers you work with is COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT. This is about protecting all of us. This is about showing the city that they need us more than we need them. I can tell you're a selfish piece of shit who only cares about himself. I can tell your coworkers probably have even stronger feelings about not liking you than you have about them. You're the type who hears a 10-1 and drives the other way, and makes excuses for not backing up your fellow officers. Do us all a favor if you don't like the cops you work with: FIND A NEW JOB. You don't deserve to be the police. I'm sure you realize this, but the pay is too good for you to find whatever job you should actually be doing. Since you're showing us that you don't care about our safety, that you don't care if we go home to our families, that you don't care if we get hurt or killed, I hope you have a safe weekend, working with the other selfish assholes. I hope nothing bad happens to you while you wait for your furlough. I hope you don't need an assist from one of the coworkers you don't like. I hope your family enjoys the money you made working VRI more than they enjoy having you there for them. Money is everything, right? You can see the future, right? You know that you'll make it to furlough, while patrolling this city with fewer and fewer officers to back you up. You know that everything's going to be just fine and you'll get to enjoy that furlough with your family. Good luck to you. Good luck to any poor soul who has to work with your pathetic ass. Go fuck yourself.

You don't like most of the "coppers around here anyway". I guarantee, no one not even your family likes you, and what a great example you are setting for your children , hey kids only think of yourself and money like your jagoff dad. "Pout on the sidelines" it's called taking a stand and having some self respect something you know nothing about. What a selfish prick! I sincerely hope while working your OT you get jammed up and we see you on the front page, and then you will be running to the union and the coppers you don't like . As far as dude on the street, like you would fucking know , you are obviously a do nothing coward.

This won't accomplish anything. Guys will work. People do what's best for them. Anybody screaming that people who work should be thrown out of the Union and are jagoffs, are themselves jagoffs. To them I ask, do you take one desireable furlough segment and one not so desireable segment in the name of brotherhood? Do you take 7B as your first choice and then 2B with your second choice so that others can get a decent segment? If given a choice of cars, do you take the one without working AC so that others can have AC in the name of brotherhood? Hell no you don't. All the vri guys and gals will be the first to cry when the pension is no longer. They don't realize they are contributing 9% from every paycheck and by actually working vri they are working against their own investment. See there is no money paid into the pension fund for any of the vri or any special overtime by the city. If nobody worked vri they would force the city to hire additional manpower the new hires would be paying into the pension, along with the city's 18% contribution and protecting your 9% investment taken out of every regular paycheck. Nobody realizes how much money they are saving the city by working vri. But here is a ballpark: 18% to our pension, they don't pay shift differential, uniform allowance, they don't pay the city's portion for health insurance (approx $10,000) per employee. The city has 6 Billion in cash reserves plus the tif funds and still refuses to fund our pension. On top of that the police have not only the second worst pension funding out of all city funds but are one of the few funds that it annuitants do not receive a compounded cost of living increase. Why any police officer works any voluntary overtime for this city is mind boggling.

A lot of people who normally work this will have their days off cancelled. Angelo has taken a measured approach. This is a good next step. FOP can not call job action while we are working but if we all policed in a professional manner - no passes - the city would be in a perpetual back log. No time for movers and parkers. Brains over balls always wins.

I like the idea but you have to many greedy coppers who will think if everybody cancels then I can get more days, and then the mayor wins again, what would be good if the fop would boot out of the union anyone who worked that weekend, after all if you think about yourself why do you need a union anyway, but fop won't so maybe all of us who are for this and think we need to stick together should post the names and units of all these coppers who will not even think to give up a couple of days for his fellow officers that's the copper that won't even back you up on a hot call. I know I know your thinking how am I suppose to pay for my brand new fishing boat are you crazy! yes I am if I think this will work

Sorry folks but I'll be working as much as I can that weekend. I'll take the money, I don't like most of the coppers around here anyways. I go on furlough the period after and will be going on vacation with my family. I'll be sure to make as much as I can so we can all enjoy our trip to the fullest. This job is not about dude on the street and especially the coppers I work with, it's about me and making money for my family to enjoy. Sorry but u guys can pout on the sidelines, I'll work a day or two without a second thought.

I wish an asshole like you would post your name. I understand it isn't about dude as you put it, but it sure in the hell should be about the fellow Officers that work along side you. Remember one day they may have to save your ass. That used to be the rare case, but now it is a far too common occurrence. Ask the P.O. from 18th and Calumet or the 3 Officers from 011 that were almost executed. I swear I hope I never find out who you are, because I may be tempted to knock your ass out. As for your family they must be Saints to put up with your bullshit ideas. Hell you're probably voting for Hillary.

Won't happen. Cops are their worst enemy.

SCC, you're a funny mother fucker. The FOP gave me the male equivalent to the shocker. I liked it! I will definitely comply and enjoy my time off. Well, not stuffing hotdogs down my throat but I'll take my time off unless I'm on mandatory OT, which I fully anticipate being the case. Keep up the good work, FOP. You have a long way to go to getting a nice brass set of balls back but steps like this are adding some growth. Thank you.
