Just out from the Bureau of Patrol:
- Days off Cancelled for All District Tact Teams, Area Saturation Teams, Gun Teams, Gang Enforcement Teams and Summer Mobile for the Labor Day weekend
- Additionally, PEZ Zones will be covered by District personnel because the VRI numbers are so low
So the FOP point is being made - the Department is dangerously shorthanded and the only way to adequately man the streets is to cancel days off and force people to work.

The purpose of this 'don't volunteer' initiative is to force the City to publicly admit we are too shorthanded to function properly. It isn't to please the union or antagonize the bosses.
The whole idea is to get the press coverage, to enlighten the average citizens, to highlight the shortsightedness of the mayor and the city council.
Wage the battle in a way the millennials can grasp. When DNA Info reports police are being FORCED to work overtime because there truly aren't enough officers to protect the city, when Huff Post broadcasts it all over the internet, when it's a 'trending story' on facebook, that's what they understand. When the City has to pay ridiculous amounts in overtime pay because they have to FORCE people to work, that's what gets headlines and people take note of.
Counteract Rahm's smirking soundbites. Start putting out some informational press releases. Get those good-news stories on YouTube. And put aside your individual issues with 'the union', 'the boss', the 'status quo', or whatever excuse you're using to NOT unite and get proactive. Stop marching in lockstep to whatever tune Rahm is playing and stepping off the damned cliff, like lemmings. It's time to take action, smart action, shrewd action, and UNANIMOUS action. If you keep waiting for someone else to do it, you've already surrendered your entire futures.

Now all the Tac Teams and special units that are being cancelled should start putting in the to-froms to go back to the watch. the city will not be able to cancel days off with out violating the contract with out tac teams and special units. The city has been able to violate the contract for the past 25 years since I have been on the job simply because all the tac teams and special units allow the city to violate the contract because all of these units are volunteer spots. Lets go boys and girls lets show the city we can stand together. Everyone on a tac team and special unit should request to be assigned back to the districts asap.

In reality, we as a department/Union can not stick together as a group for 1 weekend . There are several coppers working OT during Labor Day weekend in multiple districts ( 004,014, 016,024-to name a few) without any regards to us as a group but only to indulge in blood money that will eventually rear its ugly head in their lives. Not an FOP fan, but really just pass up 1 freaking OT opportunity in hopes that our manpower shortage/safety issues come to the Forefront other than anyone that is not pushing a beat car in patrol. Too difficult and shortsighted-as always. I wish you would post a list on that topic of those who just just can't resist increasing their tax bracket. Some guys have no shame and are actually proud of this.
The Sgt. read that you could volunteer to work your day off in the district during roll call. Don't get me wrong, I work VRI all the time but the union ASKED US TO REFRAIN from working overtime for one week. I can do that. Scabs, you are disgusting, you can't even control yourself for two days off. 016 was in a rap again tonight for probably 7 or 8 hours. It is dangerous and we need to stick together to let the politicians know we're not their dog that they can abuse any time they want.
Me, I'm going to enjoy my days off! I wish I could manage to do so every week, but I need the cash. But, every time the union says enjoy your days off, I'm going to.

I'm sorry for all those who had their day off cancelled but if we could really start to stick together more often maybe the department will finally see we are sick of their shit. For those of you who still signed up....shame on you. They asked for just one weekend. They didn't ask you to take a day off without pay like the teachers did when they walked out. They didn't say don't sign up for a side job OUTSIDE the department. They simply asked for ONE WEEKEND of solidarity.

If didn't put in for VRI during Labor day weekend, so they attempted to punish me by not giving me any for the month of September. My partner who has 5 years has many days of VRI and she has less activity and seniority than I have.:..can't rat my partner out though! Besides I'll make it up with supplemental. Point being ...we really got under their skin with this one. If you call special events you' are going to get nothing but attitude. The manpower is too low and that goes for P.Os, Detectives, ET's and Sgt's.

Our inept union has fuck up my retro-active pay of overtime on the first year of our current contract. These morons are making six-figure plus salaries and want us to boycott the extra pay, I say no way. We have no solidarity in this department. Coppers fucking over coppers constantly, with no care. Laying down on jobs, not backing up fellow officers on calls, the special people always getting early ducks and the preferred spots. No sharing of special phone calls,and a rigged promotional system that only benefits the clouted. Hell most coppers on this job don't even greet each other passing and I'm expected to take a pass to support this dysfunctional and racist department, I say hell no. I welcome any moron to talk that scab shit, so put my name on your lists and I'll collect an extra fat check and some chevron's ... Hundreds of us will be working the overtime so print your lists. Any attempt to revoke membership= big fat check and I love working 99 on the days, so I'm not bothered with anyone refusing to work with me.....Lol

I'm a Tact Sgt. I always get two VRI days a month. I didn't put in for VRI over the Labor Day weekend. The district handed out a notice from the Chiefs office saying anybody who wanted to work their days off over the weekend could do so. My team along with myself did not volunteer. I figured they would cancel days off. Thats okay I will work my RDO's, after they are canceled. I will give my team stict orders to bring in zero activity or face my wrath. Should everyone act the way I do we could take the department back from the politicians. We could make Rham and his minions tremble from us instead of small group of loudmouth protesters.

U sound like a guy with a few years on but ended up in a nice district but are at the bottom of the pile when it comes to seniority and got sent to summer mobile B.S reverse seniority and are now pissed cuz of your days off getting cancelled ! Sorry but i have zero sympathy for you , been plenty of openings in shitty districts the past few months but u chose to stay put with always the threat of something like that happening ! I've had chances of going to a better spot but with only a few years on the seniority matters more to me !I'll take dealing with the extra bullshit domestic report to know i can't get screwed with !

Actually - it's triple time when RDO is cancelled on a holiday; however - you have no choice in time versus money. You receive 20 hours comp time, and an additional 4 hours time or cash.

Is this Rahm, one of his minions or someone from the predictive analysis unit writing this shit? Mike Shields and Mike Shields alone cost every union member their retro for overtime in the first year of the contract. If you want someone to pay for this intentional action by Mike Shields at election time this spring remember Dan Gorman, Dean Angelo,Jr, Bill Burns, Danny Trevino, Tim Murphy, Dan Stover, Mike Shields, Dan Shields,AL Jaglowski, John Lipka, Dennis Dougherty, Fernando Flores, Rich King, Michael Underwood, I know these trustees for sure voted to allow Shields to pick his own committee of his friends to find him not guilty of screwing every PO and detective out of retroactive pay for all overtime in the first year of the contract. Shields then destroyed the tape of the meeting even though he promised to preserve it and send a copy to the state lodge.

There are no benefits to working tac anymore. But it is not like I do much anyway, 5-5-3 they can not dump me, because no one wants the spot. In reality, we as a department/Union can not stick together as a group for 1 weekend . There are several coppers working OT during Labor Day weekend in multiple districts ( 004,014, 016,024-to name a few) without any regards to us as a group but only to indulge in blood money that will eventually rear its ugly head in their lives. Not an FOP fan, but really just pass up 1 freaking OT opportunity in hopes that our manpower shortage/safety issues come to the Forefront other than anyone that is not pushing a beat car in patrol. Too difficult and shortsighted-as always. I wish you would post a list on that topic of those who just just can't resist increasing their tax bracket. Some guys have no shame and are actually proud of this.

I hear the stories I have too many bills, or I need money bcuz the wife wants this or I want that, really???? I have never missed my kids bday, play, sporting event, out of state travel games not one. I save my pd's & bfd's roll them over and use them for my kids. All these MF's talking shit I feel sorry for every single one of them. I don't have a second job my job are my kids. No court for me no tickets in years no one can order you to write tickets please show me in the contract or give me something in writing. Call it what you want. I go in do my tour go home. Accomplished nothing! Guys who wanted to earn a little extra but choose not to work VRI because of peer pressure are out the extra money. Guys who were RDO and didn't plan on working are now forced to work their RDO. You knew this would happen. what the fuck good was this? To prove we are short staffed? Dean could go to the media. Hold a press conference. Have factual data/numbers of current active members and retirements per month/year. Compare to new hires for the year. Explain how police on first watch are not distributed fairly throughout the city. People can understand numbers put in front of them. Maybe the public would respond to that. This idea of don't work VRI was stupid.
I stand by an earlier opinion. This action doesn't unite us it divides us. There are approximately 150 coppers needed a day, so for a three day action, 450 of us are asked to stand down. More than half the membership doesn't get to work VRI, so asking them not to volunteer doesn't change anything for them. So who loses and who benefits? Who sacrifices anything, be it the loss of income or the loss of their day off? What do you say to those who either lose the extra money or lose the day off?
And the answer? Bitterness towards the tact people for being 'stupid' enough to take the job that causes their day off to be cancelled. That's divisiveness....not caring about your fellow FOP member because it doesn't effect you. The same mentality that allows some to lay down on a job for an extraordinary amount of time while others pick up the slack. The same mentality that goes into something as simple as putting gas in the car before they turn it in, or should say, NOT putting gas in the car. It'll take the city years to correct the manpower shortage, VRI isn't going anywhere unless they just cancel it because of cost. The northside of the city has been stripped of manpower. The district I work in is at 50% of the manpower of 15 years ago. We were well over 300 PO's, now, well under 200. They shipped some out to these units using reverse seniority and made it worse. I'm glad I don't live in 016, I'd be madder than hell about the manpower shortage up there. It's fucking dangerous. 2 armed robberies in an hours time. No cars available for hours at a time.

With over 26 hrs on and over 18 as a supervisor I'm not working OT Labor Day weekend. I think it's good to send a message to the city but doesn't go far enough. What's needed is real leadership with the backbone to stand up, state the facts and then show the city that there is in fact a demonstrable result of thier actions against the officers of the CPD . I'm not promoting any type of work stoppage, I'm am suggesting that the FOP and the PBPA came up with a plan to empasize to the public the real harm that Rham and his hacks have done. Shouldn't be hard to do either....

Too many people pretending to be "undercover" and cant possibly do any police work unless it's to do surveillance ONLY.

I've seen first hand some of the "undercovers" who do nothing other than surveillance. Boy 189 has become a watered down unit full of cry babies. I havent seen a large seizure of narcotics in some time. Guess buy busting 2 baggers and grabbing the person who "directed" them to the dealer has taken all their time up. Gotta fill up 100 hrs or so in the OT slips.

Don't you think they just blinked because we DID stick together by not signing up to work VRI, and don't think peer pressure didn't have anything to do with it. There are always going to be a certain number of suckholes in the ranks who will have their noses up the managements ass, who will work VRI no matter what. Those are the ones who have to be educated about what this is all about. We should now stick together over pension, healthcare, and new contract. Baby steps first.

I refuse to work vri because the program caters to the ghetto. Do they have posts on beat 811, 1611, 2211? No, the taxpayers never have police service. The catered-to constituency has a car posted on virtually every corner.
Districts are offering Officers to work their rdo s over the weekend. In my district more than enough Officers signed up, the same Officers that will be complaining later down the road.
This should not be for only one weekend. The city needs to fund the pension as ordered and put in the money that was not funded and the money that was stolen and lost because of illegal political actions. Then work all the VRI you want.

Well aside from the mandatory one day off cancelled ....the guys in the unit ate up the "optional" additional overtime offered on the other days surrounding the Labor Day weekend. Unbelievable. I am truly disappointed in them. I believed in our unity cause to show how short the department is but I am embarrassed to say most of them didn't care. I know I'm naive to have thought in a blue cause. Another note...I understand everyone's point of view but for those who are very disgruntled and only self serving please quit now. I would hate for a friend or family member be served by you! SMH!

Get over it I joined this dept late in life and My kids if you must know are now in college. Many of you never held any other job prior to this and that's your choice. Like it has been mine to not work ot you learn how to write reports and always box 2. If by chance you get notified guess what one can always get out of those. Several old timers taught me the right way. Thank you to all those retired coppers. Medical is the best thing this department has to offer and callback a sweet unit. Yes I will be working and yes I will have enough time to enjoy my evening with my family because I made it on days the commute sucks but it is what it is. Stop by the district anytime or over the weekend, I need hours on the books as I have none. Thanks for caring
Never worked Ot for this dept in 15 yrs and my time cards will reflect that, this time around I signed up but only to piss all those MF's already hating. I hear the stories I have too many bills, or I need money bcuz the wife wants this or I want that, really???? I have never missed my kids bday, play, sporting event, out of state travel games not one. I save my pd's & bfd's roll them over and use them for my kids. All these MF's talking shit I feel sorry for every single one of them. I don't have a second job my job are my kids. No court for me no tickets in years no one can order you to write tickets please show me in the contract or give me something in writing. Call it what you want. I go in do my tour go home. Worked all three watches not in a unit or front office or hidden somewhere. Scab never!!! I have hours on the books from holidays but use them up as I need them. Signed one time scab!
