Officer Dragged
- A Chicago police officer was injured after being dragged during a traffic stop in the Austin neighborhood Saturday morning, police said.
The officer pulled over the driver of the SUV in the 5400-block of West Harrison Street at about 1:26 a.m., police said.
At some point, the driver took off, dragging the officer down the street.
The officer was transported to Rush University Medical Center in good condition.
No descriptions, so no idea who to look for.

Remember our department doesn't care about you, they forbid you to fire at a moving vehicle if it is the only use of force against you.
And the political response will be he should have moved out of the way with his super powers that politicians assume we have...
I'm guessing the officer would've instinctually fired at the driver in self preservation in the past.
In today's extremely critical, anti police climate he/she apparently were reluctant to do so.
Fuck this sanctity of life bullshit. What about the sanctity of our health and life? If someone is trying to do great bodily harm to me the sanctity of life goes by the wayside.
Stay fetal, stay alive. why would you want to make a traffic stop in that neighborhood in the early morning hours.
Keep your limbs free of any vehicles, period. Was a long time on iod for a similar incident. Now I carry life long ailments into retirement. Not worth it.

It's sad, but i agree. Technically, even if officer had the opportunity, he couldn't even take a shot at the driver to save his own life. Is that right??? The vehicle is the only weapon being used against him, can't shoot at moving vehicle???

That is true looks like the younger coppers are still listening to the lies perpetuated by the exempt staff and their minions! Not worth it officers, take it from a recently retired CPD Veteran 30 years, I have all my body parts, didn't let the ghetto thug nonsense affect me or my partner who is now retired and feeling good also! You want to collect as least as many pension checks as you have paychecks,before I retired I took a drive where I started through 007 it still is the same, the players are different but the same shit everyday, same younger coppers runnin and gunning but now getting involved in more shit, we have so many cowardly bosses now, as they say "back in the day" we had bosses that backed you, now they run and hide!
Just do your job protect blue, make sure you also respect coppers that are retired family is family and to all still active your my brothers and sisters no matter what department we wore the same uniform, did the same job, times were different now your constantly recorded and they put it quickly out to the pos "dishonest media" The only crazy hot calls is a 10-1 or officers family because we are all we have. It is situations like this that should be a wake up call for us all. We have to change the way in which we police. Lots of violations used to make stops now ought be turned into tickets delivered to the owner of the vehicle, thus avoiding the danger of stopping a vehicle in a area like this at such hours, and eliminating the staying fetal. With all the cameras in play, running that stop sign or that faulty light is something documented. Send the ticket.
Save direct interaction of the hostile nature for warrant service. That way, cops are not put out on a limb by themselves to be drug down the street, with the criminal getting away scott free. Instead of manufacturing more outstanding warrants, lets serve the ones backed up. Let's set up our cops to succeed, instead of setting them up to fail - a get hurt and die for revenue stream purposes!

No one is terrified, you just have to realize it's not the 90's or early 00's anymore... Say his partner fired at the driver, he would probably be facing termination for violating dept orders. I get you want to save your partner from harm or death, as would I, but the sad truth is it would cost our jobs. Remember last summer the guys who fired at the moving vehicle in 004?? They still are stripped and probably awaiting termination... Give them the department they want, running and gunning days are over, show up, cut paper, arrest on signed complaints and go home, rinse and repeat because the times are not going to change for the better.
Been there done that, but now I know better... Class 03-01

When there is an airplane crash the NTSB want to know why. Pilot error, equipment failure, design failure, etc. Recommendations are made and corrective actions are recommended. When an officer is injured it not an "act of god." Is there a training issue, tactical issue, equipment issue, etc? Yes I know that the shithead starts and tries to controls the situation and sometime there are no win situations, but if there is a possible learning moment, it should be taken. Blood is a high price to pay for failure to learn.

This isn't about the politicos. This is about individual intelligence and personal responsibility. You can't stop a moving 2 ton vehicle. Driver wants to leave, get the hell out of the way. If you choose to pursue them further in your squad and call it in, it's your choice, but whatever your plan of action on a stop is, make sure it is an intelligent one. That is all.
