So the Department is looking for 20 or so sergeants and a few lieutenants to go to the Academy to run the new "DON'T Use Force" training starting shortly. The plan is to train the entire Department in 90 days before summer is over in the hope that police won't use force to effect arrests ever again...or something like that. Guess how they're going to fit all those bodies in for training?

This mayor always lies, or places blame elsewhere. What is his grand plan behind all of this? Something is brewing. The city is going to be a war zone and he perpetrated it. So how does a cop arrest a POS who doesn't want to be arrested using the "DON'T Use Force"? "Please with sugar on it, please let me put the cuffs on you and take you to jail. Pretty please." Can't be done. Never seen it done.
Whoever the assholes are that are developing these programs should first have to put the rubber to the road in shit districts to see if their lunacy actually works, before instituting a program that will ultimately get more cops hurts.

I can only imagine a sgt in a cubicle? Then for a sgt to teach every day? It takes a special type of sgt to teach a class in in service officers. How can they justify pulling 20-30 sgts of the street during summer? Or are they expecting a lower crime rate because of the new technology? This is smoke and mirrors, looks good for the press.
Being the police isn't what it used to be. Times have change in what society want's a policeman to do. so if your reason to become the police is to arrest the bad guys and clean up the town this job is not for you because you will end up in jail yourself or be sued for everything you have now and the rest of your life. It is still a good job with good pay and benefits if you understand that just answering your calls and riding around waving at everyone is the new job description then you will do just fine.

First of all why complain about being paid while sitting on our asses training(reading SCC on our phones). It's not like you're a recruit, we're paid easy money so let them "train" us. Secondly, aint nothing wrong with staying fetal, uniforms a very expensinve, chasing and fighting isn't worth it anymore. Federal lawsuit is just around the corner when you choose to be a hard charger, and friend there is a reason why CPD cannot find enough recruits, I'll let you draw some conclusions before you get yourself in some serious trouble.

That makes sense. Sort of like the Marines or Army. My daughter could not pass the initial power test to get in so she was left out in the cold. She ended up with another department out of state. Our legacy as a police family lives on.

Not likely, the requirement to pass a the power test comes from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) and must be completed within a specific time frame prior to starting an accredited academy within the State. If the City decides to try their shenannigans with this they will create a whole new problem for themselves.
I guess this explains unlimited OT starting in May.

Rahm promises 100 recruits per month. And not a single month has there been 100 recruit class. The recent two classes (march and April) both have between 55-70 recruits. You stop hiring in June,July, August you better be prepared to hire 150'per class the rest of the year. Academy will be empty once this "training" is over with. Only 1 class will be in the academy. 3 classes of 150 recruits will look good. However your kidding yourself if you think the city can find 150 viable recruits for 3 months straight. City loves to DQ people.

We went into blues with stars and guns in 10th week. But I think know its mandated by State before you get hired.

Are you serious? Sgts assigned to the academy are not there to work. Maybe 4 of the sgts have the skills to teach. The rest are just there. Every sgt that is selected will have a phone call.

I am a retired detective and have not received my ballot for the FOP election. I called the office, she ran my name and told me I should have received it. I told her I do not miss my mail and wanted another sent next day mail. I was told that there was no one there to help me with that.
I really feel Dean knows how votes were cast and is acting accordingly. It's too late for me now.
I am really curious how many did not receive ballots. A short post on the blog might reveal a bigger problem exists..

As a Home Rule Unit the CPD never had to follow state guidelines. It was done voluntarily, primarily so that the Training Division could train recruits from other departments

Totally agree with this guy. I love this job, and most of the people around me do too. I love my family and I'm extremely fortunate to have this job and these co-workers. There isn't too much I would trade this job for. Just my two cents. Make it a great day brothers/sisters.

Being hired the 1986 you had to pass the power test before you're able to attend the Academy if you cannot pass you simply would not be the Chicago police that is the way it should be!

Not true- the power test standards were still being vetted---so while you hd to take the power yes, you did ni have to meet the standards......however you did have to pass the obstacle course in the academy before going into uniform (and it included a 6 foot wall)

As a Home Rule Unit the CPD never had to follow state guidelines. It was done voluntarily, primarily so that the Training Division could train recruits from other departments
