Chicago Flush with Cash

One of our favorite quotes about democrats in government:
  • “We don’t have a trillion-dollar debt because we haven’t taxed enough; we have a trillion-dollar debt because we spend too much.” - Ronald Reagan.
  • Nearly a third of property taxes now collected by City Hall go into 143 special taxing districts controlled by Mayor Rahm Emanuel and aldermen, according to a new report by Cook County Clerk David Orr.

Orr said a record-high $660 million poured into tax-increment financing funds last year, which was more than 31 percent of the $2.1 billion-plus that city government collected. The veteran clerk called the percentage “stunning.”

“This is a real pot of gold,” he said of the $660 million, noting that nearly half of it goes into TIF districts in more affluent city neighborhoods. “The fundamental question is: Are we spending it as wisely as we could, given that we really do have a tale of two cities here in Chicago, given massive wealth in some parts of the city and massive amounts of (poverty) in other parts?”
This improper allocation of tax money is probably the biggest scam running. Pensions are sicker than ever, retirees are being stripped of health care, but by golly, $660 million in 143 special TIF's for whatever Rahm want to dole out is right there for the taking.

Look at who got big funds so far. DePaul basketball 95 million, Hyatt Hotel next to the DePaul Basket ball area 75 million. Even Buena Beef the non union shop at 107th & Western got 250,000 and the useless Beverly Arts Center at 111th & Western got 225,000. Like all of those needed tax payer money. I'll bet they all donated to Rahm's war chest. And all the tax payers get from the U.S. Attorney and The Illinois Attorney General "Lisa the Skank" Madigan are crickets.

“Are we spending it as wisely as we could?”

The recent proposal of giving out Universal Basic Income tells me the answer to his question is “NO”

Prepare to see more money wasted.

Democrats don’t pay their bills.
They wait for govmint grants to do the bailing out of suppliers.
It’s how things are done.
The Chicago Way Connected do not lose money.

Many a company had grown from tiny storefront shells to become leading donors of political campaigns getting all the benefits without ever putting up their own money.
Every private project here is built one way or another with taxpayer subsidies and Corrupt City Hall set asides.
Keep paying those property taxes, Democrats are depending on you.

It’s no wonder why 48 Democrat Alderthieves always take the mayors position on development.
TIFF is vote money and the greedy snakes Moreno,Maldonado, Section8’Arena know this well.
Taxpayers have no say in what Mayor does with the collected tax scam money.
Shower the low information peasants with free stuff and shiny trinkets - works every time.

6 Corners is a TIF district and has been for years. Some growth, but it's the middle class around here. Not poor or rich enough to matter.

True on all of the above, but if the Beverly Art Center turned into a Baptist Church, which it has the design for, you'd be screaming bloody murder.

What a waste. The city owns the Divvy bikes at $1,200 a pop and they're disappearing at an alarming rate. If Divvy can't figure out how to secure them, why do we have to pay for them?
