Another Off-Duty Shot At

  • One man is in custody and charges are pending after an off-duty cop caught two people trying to steal a car part on the Northwest Side and gunfire was exchanged, officials said. The officer, who is assigned to bike duty in the Town Hall district, was on his way into work in his personal vehicle about 8:30 a.m. when he saw two people in the 5200 block of North Lawler Avenue, who were in the process of stealing a catalytic converter, interim police Superintendent Charlie Beck said during a news conference.

The officer, who was not named, then approached the two would-be thieves. According to a police spokesman, “the officer identified himself and attempted to intervene.” That’s when one of the thieves drew a weapon and started shooting at the officer, who returned fire, Beck said. The officer was not injured.

The two people ran from the area, and while it wasn’t clear if either of them was shot, but one man arrived at St. Bernard Hospital later Sunday with a gunshot wound to the hip, police said.
Well done Officer.

By the way, nice to see Beck finally showed up at one of these.

OT- For the first time Cook County Jail is serving as an official polling place for detainees partaking in early voting for this election. Voting kicked off yesterday and 642 detainees casted ballots at 7 polling places located throughout the jail. Polls are open today & next weekend. Seems like the DemocRATS have figured a way too add a few more ballots in their favor. I bet Crimesha, Dart and all those other County yahoos are happy about this. It's on the Cook County sheriff twitter.

I'm guessing they were out on affordable bail. Can we finally get rid the these giant pieces of shit, Preckwinkle, Fox and Evans. How much damage are they going to be allowed to do to this county? Their race based restorative justice program is creating more victims. All I have to say is, if any member of my family gets hurt by one of these catch and releases, there will be hell to pay.

Shooting at Police over a catalytic converter bust. Dame it's getting dangerous when its worth getting shot instead of giving Kimmie a chance to turn you loose. Good job Officer, be safe out there everyone.

They showed up at St. Barnyard. That tells me something about the offenders that we will never hear from our liberal government nor their media lapdogs.

This happened in Forest Glen! One of the few remaining “nice” neighborhoods left in this hellhole of a city.

Actually, when he’s not home in Orange County, he has been doing these. That’s unusual for CPD, where the area deputy unusually handles it. I do love how that guy Brooks was standing there, like the people on the northwest side need to be calmed down. Dude, stay on the south and west sides, we support the police here.

Good job officer, too bad the wound wasn’t 3 to 4 inches in to center mass.

Thanks Byron!

I learned a lot about Beck’s comments on the scene from ABC 7. I learned where the officer worked, what his assignment is, where he lives and his path of travel to work. Not one word about the offenders. Why would you even comment on the POs personal info at the scene of a police shooting?? Give a brief summary of what happened, not a brief summary of the POs life!! Unreal.

I'm always amazed at how some people think that crime only occurs south of North Avenue here in Chicago.
As much as many of you see and have to deal with, some of you have some very closed minds concerning where crime is supposed to happen in the city.

Convicted felons can vote in Illinois if they are not incarcerated in a prison. The law must have got snuck thru by the democrats.

I suppose it's better to just open fire on these thugs and say screw it. That's how these assholes operate, lets use their own methods against them.
