Charges in Arson Death
A thorough investigation yields charges that ought to stick:
- Three men have been charged with various crimes in connection to a
fire that claimed the life of Chicago firefighter Jermaine Pelt last
year.
Prosecutors allege the fire was set intentionally by two suspects who used scented hand sanitizer as an accelerant.
Pelt, 49, an 18-year veteran of the department, responded to the area of 120th and South Wallace in West Pullman on the early morning of April 4, 2023. While responding to the blaze that spread to two neighboring homes, he was critically injured, and later died at Advocate Christ Medical Center from fire-related injuries.
Investigators determined the manner of Pelt’s death was homicide.
The entire investigation took over a year and undoubtedly tested the patience of all involved. But they made it to the finish line and provided some closure to the family and co-workers of Firefighter Pelt.
Now hopefully, justice awaits at the end.

Hope the firebug goes to prison forever... but you know, Foxx... so maybe not.
Lots of firemen died on the watch of the Ring Camera Commissioner who doesn’t live in the city. Just saying.
Insurance fraud arson and murder charges should be enough to keep those responsible from ever seeing the light of day but this is crook county hellinois where they love criminals
Do not count on Justice for the Pelt family? The ASA is already balking at these charges! Without a confession from one of these offenders? This will be a dog and pony shows as usual! The defense attorney for one offender has already motioned to court for dismissing charges on grounds of no search warrant during recovery of evidence? Too many shortcuts got you the leads to the arrest……but it’s going to have case fall apart?
From a retired F/F arson is one of the toughest crimes to prove standing ovation for ALL involved!!!!! Now he will rest in peace brother
The guy who hired them was let out on bail, or am I wrong.

Yep, let out on electronic monitoring because thanks to the safe-t-act, felony fraud is considered a "non-detainable offense"
Time will tell.

Leave it to the ASA to balk at the charges the ASA approved.
Rest in everlasting peace, our brother first responder, FF Pelt.
How many arson cases move to this charging stage ? unless a notable victim like a CFD fire fighter.. hardly ever?
Justice in Cook County?
Now, kees me you fool!!!!
