Nice Fire Department Conehead

Englewoodians?

Hey Englewoodians - are you getting the message yet? You don't matter to the Machine any more:

  • Chicago Fire Department union officials are calling for city leaders to address a vehicle shortage as they say some fire stations are currently operating without proper equipment.

A large lot filled with city vehicles in need of repair takes up more than a city block on the South Side. It is filled with ambulances, trucks and fire engines.

While the repair lot is full, the fire station down the street in the heart of Englewood, one of the busiest stations in the city, has no fire truck.

As Larritorious is a Englewoodian native, word is that he'll be equipping squad cars with fire extinguishers, hydrant keys and buckets to provide immediate rudimentary fire protection due to CFD shortages.

  • It will be called Law Enforcement Fire and Rescue Training.

Welcome to LEFART.

What I heard from the fire neighbors, two useless exempt ranks told the truck guys to throw as much truck equipment as they could on a 30 year old engine and the engine had no brakes. They refused. Good on 'em for standing up to the useless bosses.

Trucks , Engines and Towers are made for fighting fires and rescue not for chasing ambulances 35x a day or being first responders to the 19yr old with a tummy ache. No wonder most of these apparatus have 175k miles on them falling apart and rusting away.

No money for basic fire & police services. There needs to be a forensic audit to see where they are pissing the tax dollars away. They are the same Democrats in the federal government that say they are out of money to aid American victims from Hurricane Helene but just gave Lebanon 157 MILLION. In 2022 the feds gave 70 BILLION in foreign aid. Wonder what that gave since?

What you say is true, the people in power are not that bright. Just keep it in mind whenever you here the conspiracy people talk about "Deep State" this and that. You can't give the people in charge that much credit. They are not bright enough to pull it off. The government is made up of people, human beings, who are imperfect, vain, prideful, greedy, self centered, and arrogant. But, there are some that are decent, hard working, and true public servants.

The reason they respond along with ambulances is to assist in case the 2 paramedics or emt's are not enough; such as in the case of performing CPR... Also, some trucks are manned by paramedics while most ambulances are now staffed with emt's!

The Fire Department does not “own” any firehouses or fire apparatus, those are all assigned to Fleet and Facilities Management for budgetary purposes. Friedman Properties owns the land underneath Engine 42 at Illinois and Dearbornbut I think they are required to include a firehouse in any redevelopment plans for the site.

Spares are older than the kids on the job and WAY past OSHA compliance.(Hair gel rigs) Rigs are not designed to go hard acceleration/hard stop 20 times a day for EMS with all that weight, eventually something is going to give. No. Rehires are available every day it’s just there aren’t paramedics 1. going to paramedic school anymore 2. the few that do aren’t applying to Chicago. When I got on that paramedic hire list in 2013 there were 1600 applicants hired over a two year period with medic classes in the academy of a solid 90-100 in rotation throughout the year.
Right now as I write this there is a new medic class in the academy of only 13.
13.

On the fire side applicants for the single role firefighter spot aren’t passing the physical exams, aren’t showing up for further processing and or moved on. Nobody waits on the CFD hire list for 10 years anymore.

Dude the city is still the city because due to budget reason Graham made up a department and gave them all the fleet and facility assets to balance a budget sheet doesn’t change the fact that 90% of firehouses are owned by the city and all the apparatus. It’s asinine to say because a different agency has them under their budget they aren’t owned by the city. By that logic the police do not own the squad cars or the stations

709, my firehouse has five poles installed in 1926, they removed one some years ago to install equipment in the space. The houses and apparatus are owned by the city, but assigned to 2FM for budgetary purposes. You think anybody would want to own a fleet of 20 year old rigs with 180k miles on them like mine? Call one of the new houses where the HVAC room is locked and you have to call the assigned building engineer to change the thermostat.

10/09/2024 10:50:00 AM

They are cutting back on new hires but overtime is through the roof. The CFFU contract mandates the number of engines, trucks, and ambulances that are manned every day. The city figured out a while ago that they can save health care costs, pension payments, and training costs by paying overtime to people already on the job. If they save $15k in costs while paying out $12k in overtime, they are ahead of the game.

Which is not much help to the medics running 20+ calls a day on one day's rest because of mandatory overtime.

Those shows are made here in Chicago and all the rigs they used at the start of the series were city-owned spares. The old Truck 81 was a 1992 Seagrave that they had to replace because they couldn't find spare parts. I've seen the rig with Squad 3 markings on the street running calls as a spare over the summer when they were on hiatus.
