12 hour shifts suck, getting up at 430 am to go to work till 6 at night was awful. If your active and attend court alot it is worse.

Rumor is Mikey BARZ will be promoted (for the third time) to Commander of this unit and he’s requiring a
certain amount of blue cards per tour to be elegible. That is, until he steps on his Johnson again at which point he will be demoted also for a third time. Doh!
Last week they were crying about O/T due to Conehead’s 175 million dollar deficit. This week they implement DSI.
Officers have become so fetal, they have pay us overtime to do the regular work.

VRI rocked. It really helped me build up investment $ that I ultimately used to exit Illinois. When I retired, the only thing I missed about CPD was VRI.
Why work this rebadged SDI in 018 or 001 when there's unlimited OT in the districts?

I wont be attending any court. Unless they come to pick me up and also drive me home. Ill be too exhauseted to drive safely. The 1-1 1/2 hour drive to/from work will be enough. Should have stayed in the military. They treated me way better. They also have a 20 and out plan.

Is every district offering OT to just fill spots on the watch or no? This seems insane to me to be offered when we often have to ask for volunteers just to staff the beat cars (and we aren’t even at 15% granted td).
They tried this OT initiative before a few years back after VRI was gone and before they created SDI. FOP was praising that it was the best thing since slice bread. It was an Area-wise initiative for copper from the same area to fill in other districts in the same area. That failed after about a month when copper get stuck in other districts working a late car while the incumbent crybabies get cut. This DSI sounds familiar to that, seems like they are use to supp in district and probably will require answering jobs. Just wait until one of these numbnuts starts getting into shits. Many will bite for probably the first month of this new "program", and say screw that after getting fucked.
Tips for a good life:
-Do as much OT as possible
-Make as many t-stops as possible
-Neglect your family
-Neglect your own well being
-Drink alcohol to deal with stress
-Stay on CPD until you are 65

Anyone working this WILL be doing standup roll call / uniform inspection. Not properly attired? You’re getting sent home. Same deal if you don’t have your ANOV, Parker and Mover books. That said, this is why they revised the announcement twice already… they thought they were only gonna have POs and FTOs work it. Uuuuhhhh, NOPE. Not unless you want to again have your unit in the hot seat answering questions under oath in grievance arbitration. Dicks, K9, ETs etc are ALL PATROLMEN ASSIGNED AS (their respective roles) and can’t be excluded from this program.

Don’t know if it’s arrogance, jealousy or stupidity that causes this lack of respect for those that served before us, but I for one, enjoy hearing the different perspectives from different generations of officers. The retired guys & gals inspire and give me hope. Glad to hear that they made it out and are thriving, as too many of our family members unfortunately do not.

0600-1800 was semi workable, had a chance to work the schedule during field training. But try 6pm to 6 am plus court at 1pm in Rolling Meadows. Just to come back for the 6pm shift again. Dozed off more times behind the wheel driving to and from work then I care to admit. God I hated my life. The goal was to try to last the first 8 years and make it to day shift where life and sleep was just much easier. CPD's midnights 4-2 schedule is a joke in comparison.
Because this is a 1900 start, you won't be a standard beat on a specific watch, but i think you'll be somewhat of a rapid car filling in for part of 3rd watch and most of 1st watch, if that. Dunno, though

Dude, it’s over. No one is arresting anyone. The one and done dried up 4 years ago because every arrest becomes a mental health transport, trr, iod, etc.
Do not sign up for this. Force the Department to cancel days off. The benefit is that they will have to pay the sixth and seventh word day. They might actually institute retention bonus, pay raises, or better working conditions to keep people.
