Life is Cheap
Twelve years:
- A 19-time convicted felon was sentenced on Thursday to 12 years in prison for stabbing an acquaintance to death aboard a Blue Line train in the Loop. Travis Cook, 56, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of second-degree murder with provocation in exchange for the sentence from Judge James Novy.
If only there was a three-strikes law, this guy would have been gone years ago.
As it is, the victim wasn't any great loss to society either. Maybe that came into play.
- Cook must serve 50% of his sentence before being eligible for parole. He has already earned 1,502 days of credit while the case was pending, so he should expect to be released in a little under two years.
Amazing.

Yup seen this all the time when i worked a tier by myself at cook county department of corrections brother.
Where are the victims family members ?? Pushing for stricter penalties? We keep hearing about the court system releasing these criminals. Where is the family pushing for press conferences for their loved one’s ?
Crime will only rise as all the criminals get out.
Would you look at that? He has a 12 year sentence STABBING someone to DEATH with 50% serving his TIME he can PAROLE? Yup, incase anyone has a brain Cook County and the city have set a precedence for the state this will continue to show you that unless you are SOME big wig victim or your death is some sort of movie-like death that's surreal, this is the new normal. Stay strapped and make sure you keep your head on a swivel, the Safe-T Act and this cite and release is what the city+state and county wanted, let them keep pillaging and killing.
Only in Illinois!
Cook County States Attorneys Office loves to let these shit heads off the hook with sweet plea deals to lesser included offenses. Here’s a thought… fullest extent of the law might actually become a deterrent to crime if it’s ever applied.
Fantastic example of why Illinois is a joke of a state. Ever wonder why people are leaving Illinois? Well this is why.
A life sentence without parole should be offered to repeat offenders since they seem happier locked up (no rent, meals, activities, friends, sometimes family, etc.) then on the outside
As long as its shithead against shithead crime/murder, then IDGAF. Let them kill each other. Let the Purge begin...lol
Did you call a 10-1 in county like you did in the district now STFU and process our arrestees
A bored billionaire should post billboards on every major highway into Illinois. These billboards, posted before the state line should say "WARNING: YOU ARE ENTERING THE MOST CRIME FRIENDLY STATE IN THE COUNTRY. CRIME IS NOT PROSECUTED THERE. PLEASE KEEP YOUR CAR DOORS LOCKED AND DO NOT STOP UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO."
At 56 years old, perhaps prison-time offering of "3 hots and cot" are better than life as aging street-hustler living rough. Free shelter, free food, free medical care, free organized recreational and social activities. Perhaps not for you and me, but for a significant segment of society, prison-time is not necessarily a punishment. More like a cheap all-inclusive vacation.
Guy in Naperville just got 8 years for killing his dog😢
I thought prisoners got “good time” one day off their sentence for every one day they are good with no violations while in prison. Well, how do you get good time before you do any time? What happened to “truth in sentencing”
We spent decades trying to get the media to interview victims of recidivists. The last time I did it was less than an hour ago. They won't do it. They won't list victims' last meals alongside offenders' last meals before a death penalty execution. Sometimes they mention the victims' names, at least. Usually not. We had recidivism laws, two and three strikes laws, 80% time served, truth in sentencing, and mandatory minimums in most states by the end of the 90s. Often, judges simply broke these laws, with no consequences. Then, many were rescinded. This time, when blood runs in the streets, the elite, non-profit anti-incarcerationists will be better prepared to not let politicians be swayed by the actual, poor, minority victims' families. The blood won't stop this time.
The infamous revolving door.
Now, kees me you fool!!!!
I’m sure the former CPD officer who’s going to do a week for murdering her husband is thankful it’s Cook Co!
The court system should give stricter penalties regardless of who is crying out front. The victims family members should have no influence over the court system.
There's no money in it for them. They need to be able to garnish 20% of all his future welfare benefits. Hamburger instead of filet mignon this week.
I liked the billboard that was (briefly) on EB I-40 at the TX/OK line -
LIBERALS
650 miles to Illinois

Remember BLM. Huh? NO THEY DONT. Who gives a fuck. HUH
Shitbirds killing shitbirds. Love it.
