Save Big Money at Menards!
From a reader:
- I was at Menards in Hanover Park, buying some lumber for a job. I began talking to one of the managers, and I noticed that he was wearing a police style taser in a holster on his belt, very similar to the Chicago Police tasers. I asked him if he was a policeman, and he stated no. I asked why he was wearing a taser. He explained to me that Menard's policy is to tease “run outs.” A run out is the term they use for people who grab merchandise and run out of the store. Later, I was in the Menard’s in Morton Grove and asked the manager about the tasers and was told that yes, managers wear tasers. Finally, it's nice to hear about a retailer fed up with theft and taking serious action to combat it.
Hardware shopping just got a lot more interesting, at least in the suburbs (which is where we try to do all our shopping anyway). It also fits in with our years-long personal boycott of Home Depot which supports a number of political positions that we object to.
It's good to see businesses taking a proactive approach to stopping crime as the police statewide have been restricted from actually enforcing laws. Hopefully, after a tasering, we see them follow up in court to fully prosecute criminals.
UPDATE: for those asking, in 2022, Home Depot partnered with the far-left Human Rights Campaign to provide trans-materials to grade school aged children. Remember, kids can't drink, can't smoke, can't vote, can't get tattoos, but lefties think they can make life changing decisions that permanently alter their bodies - all without parental input and actively hidden by educators.
We haven't shopped there since.

Shop at Indiana Menard's locations, Have never seen any staff armed with tasers. Suspect it's because the police actually compel compliance with sensible law.
Hey Bud, i get all my goods for my trailer park from Menards. Cook county brother.
My second favorite suburban pawnshop may soon be my number one as they now have a sign on the front door noting that they are OK with handguns carried in the store either concealed or in the open as long as all laws are followed. The sign also notes that open carry of /rifles/ is not welcome in the store. This is in Elgin on McLean Ave.
Sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen in my opinion. Can you imagine going to a TASER training and seeing a Menards manager there lol
That Moron LT TD in 016 3rd watch getting dumped AGAIN to midnights, dosent deserve to be anywhere near a district. Good luck 1st watch.
Good to know about HD . What’s their deal? Last a friend told me the CEO was a conservative, I’ll have to ask him again
Wtf SCC. Why didn’t you notify us about Home Depot before. Planning on never buying anything at HD if I can avoid it. Just like Nike shoes.
Ride the lightning and then a nice room at the Greybar Hotel with a delicious baloney sammich.
OT: Chester Weger lost his appeal. Maybe he can now leave this life and enter the fiery pits of Hell that await him
I'm glad shopowners and retailers are willing to fight back against this retail theft epidemic. It's a huge problem. Unfortunately this is Illinois. Our upside-down state and county has emboldened and coddled criminals so much that a Taser will be labeled as a "lethal weapon"...an escalation on the part of the business. Only a matter of time before the employee with the Taser is stabbed, beat or shot to death by the thief and this is ruled "self-defense" by our corrupt far-left prosecutors, news media and Dude Inc.
This story seems pretty made up
Same at EP
Don't just tease 'em--TASE 'em!
What kind of training do these employees have to use the taser and is Menards willing to take on responsibility when someone gets tasered and smashes their face on the ground or dies?
Detective Electric to the rescue
and then give all the other workers batons so the offender can then get an old-fashioned beat down,,,,,,,,,:)
Is she a white female? The initials dont ring a bell but stories of a white female LT being a bonafide moron must be true.
I'd prefer they just shoot them. Fed up with going anywhere.
It also fits in with our years-long personal boycott of Home Depot which supports a number of political positions that we object to.
Agreed, last year alerted an employee at HD of a shoplifter and was told they were not authorized to stop anyone. Sad
Bring a folding chair and popcorn, sit in the parking lot and make a day of it.
Great idea.
Now, kees me you fool!!!!
Can’t you look into it yourself without relying on what a friend tells you?
Never seen any employee of Menards in Homer Glen with a taser. Most retailers will not chase a shoplifter out of the business. Before I retired I had a manager of Walgreens try to detain a shoplifter. He was stabbed with an ice pick.
Never bring a Taser to a gun fight...
Pike up
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson will veto the controversial curfew ordinance passed Wednesday by the City Council that would empower Chicago Police Supt. Larry Snelling to issue curfews anytime, anywhere in the city, with 30 minutes’ notice.
Shouldn’t all of Johnson’s supporters be in front of his home for a No Kings protest? Seems he is acting just like a King here.
The Alderman who were elected by the people and represent the people voted in the majority for this law. They are doing the bidding of the people who elected them so there should be no veto.
That is the exact argument that Johnson uses every time he does something extremely unpopular. He has a mandate from the people who elected him. Well the majority of the aldermen 27-22 I believe are doing what the people mandated them to do
NO KINGS!!!!!!
Don't tase me bro.
Okay mother, I just ate breakfast, do i need to wait 15 minutes before I jump in the pool. Who cares what training they have, does it affect you?
Agreed, assumed HD was pro America, guess I was wrong. Hello Menards!
Why do the police accept responsibility for a dysfunctional system? It’s not that Chicago police refuse to enforce the laws, cops, especially young one, want to arrest bad guys. The problem is that not with the police but the legislators and judges who don’t punish people for bad behavior. Putting an offender on probation and an ankle monitor is not punishment. It’s the judges that are compelling compliance.
She was a moron as a Sgt too.
Yep. This will not end well for the company, but some lawyers and criminals are going to get rich.
I found shopping at Menards to be "Electrifying"!!
OT did you know the Mayor not only has his detail to follow him around. He also has SWAT follow his limo on a daily basis. Those guys are killing it in overtime!!
The manager in Crestwood carries one
RIDE THE LIGHTNING!!!!
Should waiters and waitresses carry appetasers?
Does anyone know if a COPA affiliate conducts biased based investigations in the event of a discharge incident?
I do my shopping at Foreman Mills!
Menards kicks Butt
Do you use a handicapped scooter to get around the store now STFU and process our prisoners
Nope, they have them at 91 Western location as well.
One time a Clergyman was being challenged by an atheist who asked him, "How can you believe there actually is a God when you've never seen him on earth where he's needed."
The priest casually replied, "The same way that you believe that they actually have employees at Home Depot on the sales floor."
(Feel free to add it to your repertoire, Chaplain Moshe..."True Story." ;)
I've been to first-aid training with civilian members of the public in attendance. What's your point? What's wrong with civilians in self-defense training as well? Maybe it'll prevent you from having ZAP someone and then standing before a UOF tribunal looking to take your badge. Less fight and hassle for police to respond to "CLEAN-UP ON AISLE 14!" Let their lawyers worry about their legal burdens. It likely won't feed as well into the MSM narrative if the business lit-them-up vs. police.
no worried, they carry jumper cables
I caught that too. 😂
I'm amazed their corporate law department is ok with this. The litigation exposure is huge.
Trailer park I thought it was a gated community have you ever been on jerry springer
It's a privately owned company so they're probably more inclined to stop blatant theft. Each stolen item also comes out of the individual store's profit and if the store misses certain goals the store manager can miss out on a bonus. Some of the manager bonuses can get over $50k, so that's incentive for a manager to stop thieves.
Yeah, plz clue us in about Home Depot.
This practice will end quickly with a big payout when someone is tased while "running out" with a sharp object which cuts him.
Fox Valley Range & Gun Store on McLean is a good place to visit.
One of the original HD founders is a staunch conservative, the other is a raging leftist. Both are billionnaires.
I have a friend who works at an HD in Michigan. They keep all merchandise of value locked up. If you want to buy an electric table saw, for example, you have to get a clerk to get one from the back storage area. The clerk will carry it to the front of the store and hand it to the cashier who will handle the transaction. He said he gets lots of exercise going back and forth all day long, but they just had too much theft to do it any other way. Otherwise HD was going to close the store.
I know this is off topic - however, I would like to get an opinion from law enforcement about the way ICE is approaching their raids. I don't have a problem with ICE apprehending illegal aliens, particularly ones with criminal histories. But their methods do worry me. If I were a criminal wanting to kidnap or harm someone, I would wear a mask and drive an unmarked car. I would probably also openly carry a weapon and hope people mistook me for an ICE agent. That is the problem I have with the way ICE is approaching their apprehensions. It's too easy for a criminal to disguise themselves as an ICE agent. (similar to what recently happened in Minnesota). Curious to get opinions about this.
Go get 'em O'brien Security, zap 'em
SWAT is also part of the Mayor’s Detail? Must be nice.
OT did you know the Mayor not only has his detail to follow him around. He also has SWAT follow his limo on a daily basis. Those guys are killing it in overtime!!
It can also be a "positive" experience too.
sounds all good until the Menards manager tases old boy and he falls on his head, cracks a skull or better yet has a pistol and shoots the manager .sounds like a big lawsuit cluster..
Was that at the Michigan Ave and chicago store? I seem to recall a similar story.
It's a TASER gun, not a glock. Though I'd have no problem with store managers using that either to deter thieves.
I know a manager at Walgreens who tackled a shoplifter. Guy had a couple of warrants and went to jail. So we all know someone who knew a guy......
The tasers are probably just for show. I can't believe that Menards would take the civil liability risk, especially with crazy Illinois juries.
Nice fishing. As you just proved anybody can post on here, so any opinion offered would be from one person who might not be "law enforcement."
Yeah HD is gross
Thanks for the update
They should stop until this is solved. I mean, the odds are what, 1 in 25,000,000 this could happen. Too big a risk ...
Dude, ICE needs to keep it up. We need people to be frightened of them. Wearing masks and rolling in like storm troopers keeps them and their families safe. Shit, CPD should be doing the same style of work with teen trend/takeovers.
OMG!! THis Mayor is so full of himself!! Thankfully, he's only a 1 term, enjoy it while it lasts asshole.
Democrats can't be kings. Just Republicans, right? Funny how no one calls him on this
Walgreens at 5401 Wentworth

Aww, doing everything SCC does. How cute.
Say what, SCC? Isn't the CEO of Home Depot a serious Trump supporter?
Affiliate? I thought the investigations were all done by employees.
Home Depot board of directors actually fired one of the original CEOs and founders, who is very conservative and not shy about it. They then embraced every wokey-wokey ideological bullet point and either sponsored it or pushed it onto their employees.
