"Snap Curfew" Vote
The City Council gives Larritorious the power he says he never asked for:
The City Council on Wednesday narrowly approved a plan to empower Chicago Police Supt. Larry Snelling to issue curfews anytime, anywhere in the city, with 30 minutes’ notice.
The Council voted 27-22 to pass the measure.
Flood warnings were issued as plaintiff lawyers across the city immediately started salivating at the millions of dollars headed their way. And then, it ended:
Mayor Brandon Johnson intends to use his veto power to strike down a controversial ‘snap’ curfew ordinance the City Council approved Wednesday, a mayoral aide tells WGN.
The council needed 34 votes to make the ordinance, intended to control “teen takeovers” and give Chicago police officers another option for handling unaccompanied minors, veto proof. The vote was 27-22.
This made us chuckle at the absurdity:
- ....Johnson believes investing in summer jobs for teens would be the better solution, and some alders and community groups have also expressed deep concern that a “snap” curfew ordinance, if implemented, would unfairly impact mostly [b]lack and brown kids.
Why would the ordinance impact mostly black and brown kids? Are they being driven downtown in buses and forced out into the streets, taking over intersections, attacking tourists, breaking windows and looting businesses?
Or are they the ones doing the criminal acts?
We're so confused.

Just keep the old 8 pm curfew we had when we were kids or a dusk to dawn curfew. Oh wait, can't interfere with midnight basketball.
They used to arrest kids in the city then take them from station to station for awhile.
Hold the parents er, baby mamas or whomever is stuck with them, accountable. There's plenty of graffiti to scrub or trash to pick up for community service projects. Suburbs arrest the kids for curfew violations, fine their parents and kids have to do community service. They hold an administrative hearing with a no nonsense judge. If they dont cooperate or repeat the behavior, they get a record and it's added to their school record which follows them everywhere. Oh wait, the parents are involved in the kid's lives and the kids want to succeed in life. Never mind. Remember, it's feral festival season. Be safe everyone.
Too bad. Now they have to wait until 10pm to enforce the curfew.
This guy said he's going to have ICE officers arrested. The mayor of Nashville just doxed federal agents and made their information public. Arrests need to be made.

Eraser head said he will Veto the ordinance anyway! Now Johnson sealed his 6% approval rate……and will never get any ordinance passed in Chicago. But let’s shut some more streets down for NASCAR. Followed by the waste of the Taste and 3rd of July. This city is following the Detroit play book! It has to go bankrupt first and suffer for several years and then crawl back just to prove the democrats are always right…..
How about injecting some facts into the debate. Proponents say these curfews work, Conehead says they don’t. Surely these have been tried in other jurisdictions. Do they work? I’m not interested in which side screams loudest. As Conehead says, look at the data. It's not hard to find by googling. No they don't work. But like many decisions these aldercreatures make, it's based on emotion, drama/grandstanding and who contributes to their campaigns. and Chicago voters keep falling for it and wonder why we keep getting corrupt politicians. Other the hand, it makes me nervous to hear Superintendent Snelling and decision in the same conversation.

I agree with Johnson on this one. This bs snap curfew will just put officers in the trick bag for future lawsuits. We all know what and who the real problems are in this city, but this is not the way to deal with them.
Lets not get roped into this as a civil rights issue. Its a crime issue. The looting, property damage and intimidation/bullying of everyday people must stop. Its not the skin color but rather the ingrained culture and disregard for civilized behavior which is the problem. Sorry but I see the videos and don't see a people of non-color participating. Good people pay the costs whether its civil litigation that arises, tax money to compensate vandalized businesses, added recovery costs paid to compensate for stolen merchandise and the hidden "costs" in the form of higher insurance premiums spread across the spectrum.
Let the parent or guardian of these capone yutes should have money taken out of their government benefits to reimburse shopkeepers and victims of actual hatred crimes caused by these youth. Here is a common sense solution. Let the activists and civil rights concerned lawyers invite these youths to their condos or north shore residences for a pool party or BBQ minus the weed and give these youths the opportunity to have "fun" and form a lifelong friendship with their family or domestic same sex partners as an alternative to incarceration. These lawyers and activists could groom these yutes into being model citizens. Weed smoke free to boot.
Helpful hint: Regardless of what you are as a person, if you're not there you can't be arrested.

Let’s be real, a curfew ordinance isn’t going to change anything. So now we’re going to tie up hundreds of officers chasing down curfew violations? Rounding up juveniles without handcuffs, jamming them on buses to transport to stations, only to spend 5 to 10 hours doing paperwork and calling parents? Come on. That’s not effective enforcement, it’s a waste of time and resources.
You are thinking about your parents telling you to be home by the time when the street lights come on. Dudes Mom don't give no f^$k and Daddy is nowhere to be found.
