A mother in Joliet doing what is necessary:
A burglar shot and killed by a mother as she hid her baby in a closet during a home invasion was a serial criminal who'd only recently been freed from jail.
Shelby Hurd, 36, died last Tuesday after being blasted in the head with a bullet while entering the unidentified mother's home in Joliet, Illinois.
Patch reported that Hurd was only freed on parole in February this year over a slew of previous burglary convictions.
In 2024, he pleaded guilty to two separate burglary incidents that took place 10 days apart in March 2022.Hurd was sentenced to four years with 170 days credit for time served. It is unclear how he ended up being freed back onto the streets in early 2025.
Well, this is Illinois, where democrat prioritize criminals over actual citizens. You don't really expect criminals to serve out sentences. Fortunately, this time someone was willing to do what democrats won't do - hold criminals accountable for bad decisions.

It’s amazing when I look at rap sheets of arrestees and how many of these criminals have their felony case knocked down to a misdemeanor or how many felony cases are sentenced to time considered served and they go free with literally no jail time served. It’s no wonder why this place is so fucked up.

And they're free to commit as many crimes as they want in a short time span because "concurrent sentencing" means they only serve time for one crime.

It is only obvious that a justice impaired individual was failed by our social justice policies. If he would have been kept in jail he would have received counseling that would have prevented his recidivism. If guns were not so readily available, the homeowner would have been able to call for a crises intervention team to ensure a positive outcome. I'm almost certain the resident did not have a " no tresspassing" signs posted in open and plain view which would surely have stopped this justice impaired individual from hurting his foot by forcing himself to kick down the front door to gain entry. Its obvious he was seeking medical care for his injured foot. The pain must have been incredible to force a desperate individual to risk his life for medical care. Global warming has caused the night temperatures down to the low seventies causing this homeless individual to seek shelter from the dangerous cold also. This demonstrates the need for a public citizens review board, much like COPA to ensure that positive results are achieved when there are citizen interactions with justice impaired individuals. In a truly civilized society all of these factors would have been alleviated to ensure that our citizens ALL feel needed and valued...signed " Loevy and Loevy"
