Where are the Tax Bills?

This from back in July and guess what? Nothing has come out since then either.

Not that we're looking forward to the expected massive increases, but it would be nice to see what we're going to have to come up with so we can start the appeals process and then start campaigning against these thieves:

  • The second installments of Cook County property tax bills are theoretically due on Thursday, Aug. 1.

But thanks to technology problems, the bills haven't even been mailed out yet.

    What we know:

The question FOX 32 sought to answer was when would those Cook County tax bills be ready to go?

The consensus was, thanks to those technical problems, "we just don't know."

Cook County public officials blame a 10-year-old contract with a Texas-based company called Tyler Technologies for the delay. The contract was inked by the county in 2015 and was supposed to modernize the property tax billing system within three to five years.

"technical problems"? But DuPage County (which uses the same company) got their bills out on time.

So the problem is probably along the lines of they are figuring out how hard they're going to have to manipulate the tax multiplier. Then they have to take into account favors from the assessor, the clerk, the treasurer and the county board, not to mention the CPS usual maxing out of their share. Then they have to figure out how much everyone else has to make up shortfalls for things like the head of the CTU living in Indiana, downtown discount deals for Madigan's and Burke's law firm clients, and the usual "exemptions" for aldercreatures who misrepresent the building they're living in.

After all that, maybe you'll get a tax bill that only goes up 20%.

Perhaps the County failed to pay the vendor.

What happens when DEI leadership takes over. Like African countries that go through cycles of famine, then stealing aid money, then more incompetence. Then more DEI, then famine. Rinse and repeat.

The biggest scam they pulled on us is the fact we pay 55% of the property tax in February. When the sevond installment is calculated obviously that's when all the increases take place and since that installment is only 45%, the increases make the bill equal to the first installment. There waa a method to their madness, the sheep won't complain and notice when property taxes go up in August.

Two issues here:
1) small suburbs with tight budgets will now have to borrow money that will add to their future tax bill on residence;
2) the only winner here will be the banks that hold escrow money and they can keep it then with interest.

I started work on my house about four years prior to my retirement date. Sold it and moved to Texas one year later with no regrets. Someone else here posted that most retirees stay in Chicago. This is true. Most don't leave, happy to stay to have an excuse to bitch. If you're going to go, plan ahead. Don't let anyone bullshit you with "its the same thing everywhere "..Its not. Good luck and good health to you. Get going while the going is good.

As soon as they figure out how much the schools need, the tax bills will be on the way...after all, "It's all for the children"...and "Teachers are our children's future, we should pay them more"...right?
They shoved that ideology down our throats for years, today they are just empty words.

Exactly. All these "problems" the city, county and state are having are simple to fix if there were competent people running the show. When you elect morons, they make bad decisions and do dumb things. That should not surprise anyone.

with the huge decline in commercial assessed valuations, the tax burden shifts to the homeowners. Same size pie, just a matter of who gets poked the most.

I have no doubt this delay is about figuring how to screw homeowners without some sort of push-back. I wouldn't worry about it if I were them. The people in cook county have no fight about anything. Fully neutered and completely harmless.

Part of the problem is (once again) the Assessor's office, which is in the middle of a computer and systems upgrade. Assessor's site said it could not the Certificates of Error for tax reductions by BOR and PTAB until recently, so the data doesn't get to the Treasurer's Office to calculate bills.

Unlike private business, the gubmint can't just find a better contractor in the phone book. Gotta check with their clout first and all the pols collecting the graft. At a dept I worked at we couldn't get tires for a year after a mayoral change . Tires ! So if a backhoe was on overtime like almost every day and it had a leaky tire you would assign a compressor truck to sit there all night on double time to keep his tire aired up. Fuck it it's only money .

Not the same size pie, it's smaller. Of which the hogs require pie to be much larger to make their piece also larger, without emptying the pie pan. Which is us.

They killed the golden goose and had roasted goose one time, then, no more golden eggs.

They milked the cow relentlessly, neglected to feed cow and cow croaked. Thus, lean meat for a short bit and, then, no more milk. Or cheese. Or yogurt. Or butter. Or, gasp, ice creams.

The little red hen? Well, they roasted her, when she said no bread for those who did not help. Then, no more bread.

Drive them into the deep waters and let the fishes feast to restore a semblence of balance.
