The System is Still Broken
And nothing on the horizon seems to say it'll get fixed:
A Chicago anti-violence worker has been sentenced to 22 years in federal prison for a string of violent carjackings in West Englewood that left one victim shot and others threatened at gunpoint.
U.S. District Judge Lindsay C. Jenkins handed down the sentence for 23-year-old Jamari Edwards, who admitted in April to carjacking three people during a single week in August 2022. Edwards also pleaded guilty to federal firearm charges tied to the crimes.
Anyone know who was paying the salary of this "anti-violence" worker who was out committing ...um... violence? Was it Chicago taxpayers who are already staring into the Conehead abyss of a massive budget shortfall?
An 18-time convicted felon is now accused of scaling more than 10 floors to burglarize one of Chicago’s most exclusive private homes while the owners were asleep.
Prosecutors say 46-year-old Robert Berry entered a residence in the 200 block of East Lake Shore Drive around 3 a.m. on August 19, 2025. The block, which includes the landmark Drake Hotel and a row of early 20th-century luxury co-ops, is one of the most expensive stretches of real estate in the city. The victims’ home was recently on the market for $8.4 million.
Yet another SAFE-T Act triumph and broken Parole system that puts criminals back on the street with the full support of democrats. Someone with eighteen convictions shouldn't be breathing fresh air for decades, yet here he is climbing up ten stories on fire escapes to commit more felonies.
Knowing who lives in that part of town though, they probably would have welcomed this repeat offender into their home had they woken up. Husband might have even offered him the wife.

Paying violence interrupters is just another shakedown scam similar to how the government gave tax dollars to the west side vice lords in the 1960’s in hopes of keeping them from committing crime.

The 18 time felon's story could be told how he turned him life around joining the circus. Imagine the fawning newscasters telling this clown's heartwarming tale of penitentiary deployment to circus employment.

An anti violence interrupter? Carjackings are just property crimes. Stealing a car which is just property doesn't rise to the level of violence. That's what insurance is for. These were the sediments expressed by a licensed private attorney on the elevator at 26 & Cal in the presence of actual arresting police officers. Sounds like some sort of social justice indoctrination going on at law schools too. Must be a boilerplate defense argument in the courtrooms at 26th Street. Hopefully not accepted legal reasoning at the federal building or in the civilized jurisdictions.

Re: the Jamari Edwards case, time for some legal judo - turn the playbook against them & have victims sue the pants off of “CeaseFire” for material support of this active criminal & levy fines for emotional duress.
Civilian here in the “art industry”. I’ve always been surprised there are not many more reports of burglaries & such along East LSD, as that single block easily has almost one billion dollars worth of artwork alone (to say nothing of jewelry & coveted high-tech sundries). Not even an exaggeration. Total old-school Real Chicago money - the kind who get wings of the Art Institute or Field Museum named after them for signing a check. Half the residents away at another home in Lake Geneva, Aspen, Miami, etc. all the time; the other half absolutely geriatric, out of their mind & kept alive by familial & (daytime) home-staff parasites.
All residences easily accessed by a simple doorman / delivery dock ruse, or literally just climbing the fire escape out back. If this burglar idiot had any idea, he could’ve walked out of there with a Picasso instead of a purse… & an umbrella.
Glad he didn’t of course, but hopefully this capture will prompt those addresses to get their act together before a more serious incident occurs.
