Taxes, fees and tolls just went up massively in Illinois:
As the clocked ticked down and Illinois' veto session came to a close, Illinois lawmakers in Springfield in the wee hours of Friday morning approved a new, $1.5 billion transit funding bill for public transportation agencies, mainly in the Chicago area.
The new bill passed passed without large, and controversial statewide tax increases that had been previously proposed, like taxes on streaming services, a $5-per-ticket concert and new speeding cameras in the suburbs.
However, the bill is still likely to raise sales tax in Chicago and the suburbs, and will significantly hike fares for trips on the Illinois Tollway, including to O'Hare International Airport.
Tolls will be climbing from $0.75 to $1.20. RTA sales taxes raised in Cook and surrounding suburbs.
And don't worry about your electricity bill - they raised that, too!
A proposal to bring more power online in Illinois to meet high demand and potentially help curb rising electric bills was sent to Gov. JB Pritzker after state lawmakers passed the plan Thursday.
The measure is aimed at creating more power in Illinois as the state and the country face a rising demand for electricity from big data centers.
A major piece of the plan is the funding of giant battery storage, which aims to capture power during points of low demand, store it and release it when there is high demand.
Gotta love that word...."potentially."
We've been hearing it for decades, but can anyone tell us the last time an electric rate actually went down? We went over our bills for the past few years, and even dug around in our bank records and the only time our electric bills were lower was when we used less electricity - the rate charged never budged a penny while Illinois closed power plants and banned building nuclear reactors.
But what's another $7-to-10 billion dollars from the diminishing population of taxpayers and companies fleeing Illinois for cheaper power and costs of living?
Illinois is a slow motion disaster, but it's picking up speed lately.

I remember the tollway was only supposed to be in place till the road was payed for. Then they would removce the toll booths. Didnt some scum politicians nepotism hire steal all the quarters he couild too

Electric bills going up? What about consumption? My dickhead neighbor has 3 EV vehicles that and he charges two each night and all night? Like fuck I use a quarter of his consumption per month but he’ll probably get a tax break despite our infrastructure about to be overwhelmed by his warm fuzzy mobiles
Don’t forget the data centers will be using minimum of about 500,000 gallons of fresh clean Lake Michigan water per day, they are quietly piping it out to Joliet and other communities saying the wells and aquafiers are running dry, as they build more data centers for job killing AI! Water without Gods intervention is not a renewable resource, look at the old U.S. steel plant the massive development for this monster data centers. The delusional idiot governor and conehead are saying many jobs will be created, yes in construction but they will have minimal people to maintain these facilities. Wate bills are already rising the will hit the stratosphere soon, as this valuable resource is depleted! How much have the democratic institutions and the democrats been given via back door to sell us out? Why are we saddled with extreme bills to pay for the billionaire investors! Example, look at New Jersey and what they pay for electric and gas..is it any wonder that state may actually turn red next week after the governors race..voters are finally waking up! The majority of all taxes are spent on the salaries, benefits and pensions of government employees. Public service and infrastructure come last, as always! Like the Illinois Tollway Authority that exists solely to fund the salaries, benefits and pensions of the people who work for the tollway! A snake eating its own tail.
All this money to pay for CTA, for a train that is full of homeless, smells like piss, and is full of crime. Our tax dollars hard at work. Just love getting on the Blue line from O'Hare, all the tourists get to experience the real Chicago. Sad, that people have to ride like this and pay extra because you are getting on at O'Hare.
A bunch of Democrats sit around in Springfield and one of them says, "We need more money for stuff. What should we do?" Pained, frustrated looks come over the room as they try to think. They, after an agonizingly long time, someone say, "I know let's raise taxes!" Shouts of joy and relief come over the room. Cigars are passed out and words like "brilliant" and "guru" as tossed about. They wipe the sweat off of their brows and order some food in celebration of figuring out a solution to such a tough question.
So everyone has to pay more for public transportation except its actual users?!

What floored me was the revelation that the interest earned on our 2nd highest in the nation state gasoline tax at .48.3 cents per gallon was over $200 MILLION dollars!
They're literally taking in more money on the gasoline tax that they can spend!
And now that $200 million won't go towards road construction and bridge repairs at all and will fund the CTA and RTA.
Leave Illinois as soon as you can with as much as you can...

Giant battery storage, which aims to capture power during points of low demand, store it and release it when there is high demand. Sounds simple. Its not, you either need large inertia drivers (spinning Generators) using batteries to run generators which evens out the power for use, or Virtual inertia drivers which shorten the life of the batteries to less than 10 years. Power from Battery farms cost more per killowatt hour than traditional power plants, but Power plants remain more cost-effective for long-duration energy supply, while batteries excel in flexibility and fast deployment. Its the old build something fast that doesn't last.
If you think you are going to save money by moving to south Lake County Indiana from Illinois think again. NIPSCO, the local utility raised electric rates 16.75% July 1st. March 1st, 2026 the electric rates are scheduled to increase by an additional 10% for a total of 26.75% over one year.
Property taxes are increasing because of school referendums due to increase operating costs primarily due to energy bills. Municipal and County taxes are increasing also.
NIPSCO is supply massive amounts of electricity to the new data center Amazon is building in New Carlisle, IN, just west of South Bend. This is coming from the grid. They are shutting down two reliable coal fired generating units in Michigan City and Wheatfield in 2026 and over the past few years built thousands of solar panels on farms in Starke and Jasper Counties to replace this reliable electricity. Solar is not as reliable as coal fired electricity. In addition, they are currently seeking State of Indiana approval to have customers pay for a $1 Billion+ natural gas generating facility at Wheatfield. Their BS with placing all of these costs on customers just does not stop.
My sister volunteers at a local Catholic Church food bank located in south Lake County and talking to people coming in weekly for food, they all say that after July 1st, 2025 the NIPSCO bills pushed a lot of working families over the edge and forced them to come in for food assistance. We had a hot summer and AC bills were high. The food bank is very concerned that they will not have sufficient donations to purchase food in 2026 because of the increase in demand cause by utility bills.
I have several friends who work for Airlines at O'Hare and drive the tollway daily from Indiana. They are being F..... to pay for the CTA. The airlines are not going to increase their salaries to pay for this.
I guess the idea of raising CTA fares was a non starter

I spend a lot of time in Lake County IN myself. That tollway you mention -the Chicago Skyway & Indiana Tollway, aka I-90 - is not part of this Illinois bill to fund the CTA. Skyway is privately owned since Daley II sold it in 2004 to "the Skyway Concession Company, a joint-venture between the Australian Macquarie Infrastructure Group and Spanish Cintra" on a 99-year lease. And the Indiana Tollway portion, well, that goes to Indiana, not the CTA.
The Community Youths just jump the turnstile anyway, while The Community CTA employees look the other way.

Choices my friends! You can move out of state or stay until your pain threshold is met or exceeded. Gas taxes and toll raises will continue to go up. Much of the funds dedicated to the trains will be sucked up by the friends and family funds as usual and more and more money will be needed because there will be no audits. Major Pain!
Nuclear power is the long-term solution. Even Bill Gates is a believer and is building several smaller plants. Clean and efficient. Remember we have several nuclear-powered submarines and aircraft carriers that are powered for 20 years before the isotopes need to be changed. BUT, the climate change people deplore that solution because it makes no money for them and their bullshit theory of Human Causes of Climate Change. I guess I missed the mini–Ice Age in the 1970's as predicted by these phonies.

Unfortunately I have to pay tolls to get to and from work. It’s been 15-20 years since I last took public transportation. Why should my toll money be used to bailout CTA? How about raising prices for those who actually use public transit. Of course not, the democrats would rather go after those who actually work. They passed this bill just like they did the SAFT Act - middle of the night.
