More Property Tax Stuff
This made us smile, then chuckle, then laugh out loud:
Homeowners in some of the city’s most affordable neighborhoods may be surprised to see a spike in their property tax bills that were mailed out Friday.
Residential property tax bills are rising fastest in Black neighborhoods on the South and West sides as the county’s tax burden shifts away from the economically depressed Loop, according to a report from the Cook County treasurer’s office.
The Sun-Times broke the news in March that the property tax burden had shifted from the Central Business District to neighborhoods. Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas’ report, released Monday, gets specific about how that shift has hit minority neighborhoods hardest.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but these neighborhoods have been a drain on city resources for decades, providing little....but taking much.
But then a series of political decisions over the decades, like decriminalizing much of what used to be punishable, declining to prosecute certain individuals, even actively encouraging an expansion of anti-social behavior, expanded criminal activities into formerly "peaceful" or "untouchable" areas of the city, committed by the generational failures of those shithole hoods.
So downtown businesses fled. High wealth individuals took their money and went somewhere crime wasn't as prevalent. More people avoided the formerly "magnificent" stores, shopping areas, tourist spots, etc. and the taxes generated by those areas declined precipitously.
And those who enjoyed years of free rides suddenly have to live with taxes being raised to make up for all the wealth that left....and they can't afford to leave.

Got an idea says....
Let's bring those migrants over to do the jobs Americans won't do....
Problem solved !
The consequences for voting democratic for over 50 years is about to land on the heads who have been leeches without contributing their fair share. Funny thing is, the bloodsuckers have no place to escape to, since they have made their bed of take, take, take, but now cry that they are forced to contribute to the “man”, Conehead.
The ghetto residents may have to learn how to budget their money better. When food was being handed out many were in line driving vehicles much nicer than mine.
As soon as I saw Maria Pappas calling out the city spending more than it's receiving in tax revenue I knew something was up and sure enough she announced her candidacy for mayor.
Don’t pay it. Just like that. It’s been over 2yrs for me. Just don’t pay it. Nobody here ever met someone who had serious consequences for not paying these extra taxes. It’s all fear propaganda. Just don’t. Nothing will happen. I’ll prove it.
And guess who has all the newer schools???
The illegal aliens…..
Now you can't leave.
"Most affordable neighborhoods"?
Least survivable, most exploited, least deprived, most depraved, least desirable, most reliably repulsive.
But, most affordable?
Shirley, you're full of shit puppies.
Which demographic uses the most city services? They should be taxed more....
It's about time. A small, almost no land, house in the gold coast's tax bill is at least $50k to $90k or more a year. A much larger home , with about 4 to 6 times the land, in Hyde Park's tax bill is maybe $20k. Sick of the crazy disparities.
No complaints here live in Mount Greenwood and mine went down 5.6 percent.
Huh...I'll have a coke...
Too bad about South and Westside paying more taxes. It's where all the "services" are disproportionally used.
How do we get our money back?
Its about time they pay their fair share, fucking leeches!!! The 'what about me' is now about me.
Fuck you, Pay me!
when those certain residents started to move into those certain neighborhood's the houses had high value and the crime was low and then after more and more of those residents moved in the houses had lower value as the crime went up,,,,, and that has been the trend in every city, but they politicians were able to just raise the taxes on the businesses in the city but now with less and less business those certain residents are now mad they have to pay the same amount as the rest of the city,,,,boo hoo hoo
“If you live in the south or west side s, your property tax will be waived”. - Brandon Johnson
Maybe its about time that the ghetto leeches go out and get a job!
Maybe this was all intentional to get rid of Conehead?? The final nail in his coffin.
Agree! Volunteered thru work at a food pantry. People were pulling up in brand new cars.
You pay more for keeping a clean, law-abiding neighborhood. You do all the heavy lifting and then get charged for it!
Yet you still check the blog
Those neighborhoods have their essential businesses. Liquor stores, Lottery storefronts and funeral parlors.
Pony up suckers. The CTU is traveling to another conference.
Let’s blame the real villains…Trump, slavery, and racism. -BJ
Golf Tango Foxtrot Oscar
Just got a 10% jump. Can we PLEASE find SOMEONE to run for mayor who might actually DO something about the CTU? More and more money. Lower pupil count, yet more employees, schools with less than 40% enrollment but fully staffed, and -the real kicker- turning out unemployable-in-the-future those who can’t read, write or do math.
The racism of people noticing all this math stuff and the unsustainably of our economy, don’t you racists know he’s a black man raising black children.
Welcome to the party Pal
They knew people would be mad so they sent out the bills when it was cold, that way nobody could protest. Politicians really stink it to the public.
That’s right Sonny
Better idea: Mandate that those getting government welfare and freebies work those jobs. And finish deporting all of the illegal migrants. Win Win for taxpayers
That is actually problem solving 101!
Is Jcat gonna default on this house too? Does he even pay taxes?
A few years before I left, the County sent me my property tax bill on my home. The value of the house was MASSIVELY inflated. Of course, this was done to raise my property taxes. I joked to my wife that they must have discovered an oil field underneath it. I sold the house and escaped Chicago when I retired a couple of years later. I got nowhere near the assessment value when I sold it. I knew that and expected it when I put it on the market. I knew it had been grossly overassessed and priced the house according to what houses in the area sold for and did well, getting what I asked for the home. If you look at houses for sale on the south side, Gresham. Roseland, etc you'll note that people are asking for the inflated assessments that the County slapped on them to raise their property taxes. 350k for a house in Roseland? 300k for a house in West Englewood? These houses are going to be on the market for an eternity...these people are being misled.
Live in MTG and mine went up over $3,000
"My boy won't take his Tylenol, send a ambalance"
Karma is motherfucker. All those years of taking have finally caught up with the ghetto.
So I’m not paying on time. The rate for 1 month is lest than 1%. That’s a great loan rate. I’ll pay in January. Hopefully more people do it and cause the city treasurer and BJ the Ghetto Clown to let a little pee out in their pants.
Can I schedule a walk through so when the County auctions your house, I will have a heads up on it’s condition?
You took the toilets out again?
They exploited themselfs voting commiecrat. Blackrock and other scavengers are licking their chops at the prospect of owning more 'affordable' housing. Suprised Levin left out Illinois in his affordability comparisons to red states.
Are you saying currency exchanges and liquor stores don’t contribute to a major city? These hoods are areas of love
White folks do....easy next question.....1st to get snow removed, trees trimmed, new libraries, new schools, roads paved, new projects like the 606, Kennedy express lanes....investment from real estate developers....yeah tax em' more!
Drain on the cities resources???? No, democrat embezzling tactics...they say they get more money but it never arrives.....the cronies, companies, etc... get the money and it never goes to where it was intended....
Oh, your back.
I have two buildings. I live in one and rent 5 others. My tenants know I will NOT pay the tax hike, they will. I’ve given the option of staying and paying or they can break their lease with my blessing. I have several professionals who would love my apartments and have the cash to pay. I know for sure the white girls with the colored hair & rainbow flag are going. I reminded them they voted for this clown.
"youse"
Some CPS employees allegedly took advantage of the district’s “lax, vague, inadequate and unenforced” travel rules and procedures.
How about we name the CPS employees, publish their disciplinary history including anonymous complaints along with not sustained allegations, and those over the top expenses they incurred while vacationing. Inquiring minds want to know. Online documentation would reassure citizens of the integrity of CPS spending and legitimize the integrity of an investigation. Most importantly, sunshine would expose the character of educators and bureaucrats. This outright theft by educated educators. No conscience fleecing taxpayers yucking it up laughing justifying their criminal conduct with policy loopholes with the Board of Education can afford it rationalization and "ambiguous" policy excuse. Why not just raise property taxes again and again to cover the expense oversights by the 9 months out of the year working educators.
I'm sure they are booking conferences in the French Riviera for winter break complete with caviar and chardonnay. “Lax, vague, inadequate and unenforced” is no justification for official misconduct and theft of public monies. Try the “lax, vague, inadequate and unenforced” defense when your exposed violating the ultra complex I.R.S. code by overlooking tax obligations. Betcha we won't see any essential CPS worker resignations, 365 day suspensions, repayment of misappropriated public funds with simple interest, or any sort of discipline. That punitive stuff is reserved for police and police only.
Too many calls for service at the same abode? Swipe your credit card for city service. Can you imagine how many fat slobs will suddenly become mobile because the fd will charge them to get carried in/out to "the doctor"
I think if you look in Bronzeville and a few other black areas at the prices of those homes and multi units and then at what they pay in real estate taxes, you will find that they have been under taxes for a very long time.
Democrats are simple minded people. Lets rename property taxes tariffs. Tariffs are associated with the Honorable Donald J. Trump. Democrats will see or hear tariff and identify the tariff with President Trump. Democrats will then go into a derangement diatribe and ultimately vote against the tariff or cleverly renamed property tax.
Get over it, already. We need to pay to live in a world class city. Go ahead move to redneck Florida. No good pizza, no beefs, no bears, no st. Patty day parade. And they make you live in hoa and paint your own fireplug in front of house. My old partner wishes he never left Clearing.
Yep. I still see it.
You the 2017 tax guy from 005?
“First, we get all the money”
Yeah, you obviously don't live in Chicago - newest libraries: Humboldt Park, Woodlawn, Back of the Yards, and Obama Center. I haven't seen a tree trimmed on my block in over 7 years- maybe more despite calling. New schools? Kidding right? The newest one is slated for a south side location (not Mt Greenwood) South Shore HS is newest one I can think of, Acero Charters are primarily in Spanish Speaking neighborhoods, the Kennedy is and other roadways - you don't happen to think any of that has to be with traffic patterns and going to work, do you? I didn't realize the Kennedy express lanes were for whites only? And you must not drive around anywhere that's white because there's potholes galore - everywhere. And here's another little ditty- every alderman gets an allotment for participatory budget programs and the community decides where the money should be spent. So maybe ask yourself where your alderman and community decided to spend the money? As for city services- I''ll guarantee you we get less police service, fewer ambulance rides, fewer visits to our local hospital ER and less damage to city property by the residents of the neighborhood.
Got an $85.00 tax reduction on my 3-bed / 2-bath tiny home in Norwood Park.
12 months is 10to12% apr
World class city? Fuck the pizza, Fuck the Bears didn't you get the memo they are moving out? You need to go Fuck Yourself!
The fuck you talking about. 015 and 011 were always the first to get streets plowed, then the northwest side. City service requests? Potholes? 011 and 015 first gtfoh with that bullshit
TMI
There are more than 2 options.
But I’m glad that brandon can count on idiots like you and I don’t have to worry about you bringing your ignorance to my community !
Just use the LINK card.
We're already paying WAY too much to live in a "world class city".
Clearing? A shithole. Your old partner is nuts.
Good for you
Worked for the water dept doing construction for 25 years. No exaggeration, spent maybe 10 days in white hoods. New utilites and streets and sidewalks on blocks with 2 houses left. Southside white hoods full of potholes, bad street lights etc. Gotta blow the alderman to get a new garbage can. The overserved comunerty gets everything and then destroys it all.
Another self identified yuppee asshole. You pay dickhead,I'm out to where normal people live. World class city, obviously you've never traveled the world. Putz.
Maria Pappas said we don't have to pay our property tax...
What are you talking about?
All of that work being contracted to improve the areas most barren has a purpose: future developments not including any of the moocher populations of those areas. Not any.
Urban renewal on a massive scale, via generationally long period of decades.
Just now becoming visible to those not paying any attention at all.
That huge body of fresh water, you know, Great Lake Michigan, is the prime point of value to the acres west of it's lovely shores. Huge value. And not measured in money.
Pro clue here: these long term plans are not for or from the fucking fishes.
That is hilarious, my brother actually says that crap. There is great pizza everywhere. in case you haven’t noticed, many businesses left. There are a half dozen Chicago style pizza places that sell beef sandwiches in any town of 500,000 or more.
Staying for any sports team is just plain retarded. You can watch them on TV.
Is Florida that bad or is it your TDS? They are getting rid of property tax. Who would have thunk of it?
