Unforced Error

This is a  badly timed "whoops" for sure:

  • A lawyer for Dexter Reed’s family is calling for Chicago’s police oversight agency to release a report that largely clears a group of tactical officers of wrongdoing in connection to the 2024 shootout that claimed Reed’s life.

Why do we say "badly timed"?

  • The report by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability remains under wraps as the Chicago Police Department reviews the findings. That means police Supt. Larry Snelling could still challenge COPA’s conclusions.

Why would Larritorious challenge the findings?

  • [Officer X] was among three officers who continued firing after Reed had exited his SUV and fallen to the ground. [Officer X], who was the last officer to stop shooting, fired a total of 34 rounds and reloaded his weapon during the exchange of gunfire, according to a report by the state’s attorney’s office.

Over the weekend, [Officer X] was named in a police report after allegedly threatening to beat up a detective at a Norwood Park bar. A police spokesperson said he remains on active duty.

Gee, could Larritorious could use this as cover to get rid of at least one potential problem child?

It's not like it hasn't been done before.

A couple times that we know of.

Even for people that were RDO when the shit hit the fan.

And then the City dragged out the appeals and lawsuits for two, three, even more years.

The department is always on garbage. It’s either the Superintendent, COPA or the Bureau of Internal Affairs(BIA). All them at one time or another are on BS. The worst is BIA. They shape the outcome to the bosses wants and needs. Nothing is fair, objective or honest. The workers are the ones who are hanged out to dry. Nonworker's or slacker's have nothing to worry about! It’s just the way it is. The more you see and the more time you have on you start to understand this. Handle accordingly before you’re the one dealing with the Superintendent, COPA or BIA hoping for mercy for just trying to do a job. When the bosses, media or public cry for your blood they have no problem stringing you up! The job pays well but comes with a lot of stress and BS. We would have all been better off being Firefighters. No BWC and we could sleep and get paid. A whole lot less BS!

Possibly the greatest self own in history was the left demanding BWC's in the wake of George Floyd.

Everyone was a "problem" before they did something dumb
Everyone was a "great person" after they die.
In between that they were never talked about.
Thats always the mo!
Hey fellow blue... help your fellow blue and get that kid to some professional help and stop bashing him on an incident you weren't at and will never know how you would have reacted.
Tunnel vision is a real crippling event in a high stress situation... your brain is really on a delay from the information being fed to it by the eyes and then delayed even more on sending singles to stop an action.
Sorry e-learning cant "train" you prevent that.
Man I would file a federal lawsuit against this dept for lack fire arm defense training.
At a minimum..anyone ofc thats that in or on a proactive numbers team, unit, watch, etc should be getting monthly training on situations like this .. especially those in the "high crime areas".
The dept sets you up failure!
Just like they protested for change within the polcie dept.
The police need to protest for change within the police department and its "training".
Stop with all the bs e-learning that everyone just clicks through and uses the shared answers to pass its test.
Give us hands on training every month where we will remember and actually retain like real training does.
Not financially possible?
Man power makes it impossible?
Well you cant hold a persom responsible for their actions when you didnt properly training them.
Someone challenge this already!!! Before its to late and the profession is stuck with this for ever.

That’s the problem here. These internal processes stay open for years and years after what happened. It was a high profile shooting that was deemed justified. That internal process should’ve been completed already. Instead, they keep people on a string and years later suddenly you’re stripped or fired for it. It’s bogus af.

Maybe mental health issues/PTSD from the shooting. Maybe a clouted kid who thinks he’s untouchable.

Regardless, he’s finding out the hard way. And in years past he would’ve gotten his ass whupped instead of “calling 911 to report he’s being mean to me”.
Walk away from the kid, or handle the shit. If he threatened you, you can defend yourself.
Christ if you can’t sort this stuff out without CALLING the police, you shouldn’t BE the police.

Sounds to me like one idiot bumped into another idiot.

Try to keep up, no one is judging him for the Reed incident.
Sounds to me like he’s being judged for his drunken escapades.

And a large part of the problem is who the city is hiring, not what they’re training. Your line of thinking implies that every officer on the force should be a high-speed doorkicker, and if you aren’t trained as such than the city is at fault.

The reality is this- not everyone on this job should have been hired in the first place. We can’t “coach our way” out of that.

I do agree that tact and units that are “aggressive” should have additional training, and I think the city is actually doing that.
But now the problem is that 1) as talked about not everyone should be on the job, and now they’re on tact, and 2) Tact is basically reverse seniority nowadays, with no “old timers” on the tact to teach them how to work tact. Gone are the days of a worker with 25 years on working tact.
So now you get 2 kids who went to the academy together partnering up on tact with 20-something months on the job. And the tact “vets” have 3-6 years on.

It’s not necessarily a training problem, but a personnel and institutional knowledge problem.

Yes the narrative of the big bad wolf cops has largely been debunked.

Did you see the latest push now that they are finding that cops typically aren’t problematic, and exposing certain communities for unprovoked violence and shenanigans? Now they’re saying that bodyworn cameras should be rethought because young women are victimized. You can’t make this stuff up. Do it to appease “da communerty”, and now it is infringing on women. Can’t figure out what it is they want, it’s a true damned if you do/don’t scenario
